Pokémon Court-Chapter 516: Fallarbor Contest (4)
Chapter 516 - Fallarbor Contest (4)
Faced with an ability that could use "Future Sight," many contestants were extremely apprehensive.
However, in the eyes of the three judges, the use of Supersonic in this performance was particularly interesting.
It was truly rare for a Trainer to abandon Crobat's eyesight and continue training Supersonic as its eyes, which had been relied on during its time as a Zubat.
The move Supersonic has an excellent disruptive effect, but if one wanted to train it as a form of eye, the difficulty increases several times over.
"In terms of performance alone, this has already reached a score of 10," Terrance judged in his heart.
As Crobat successfully avoided all the poisonous droplets, the audience erupted into applause, cheering for its performance.
Vivian turned to the three judges and asked for their opinions on Chisana's performance in a surprised voice.
"Hmm... very impressive. Avoiding such dense droplets while keeping its eyes closed and training its instincts to such an astonishing degree—this Crobat is truly unique. I give it a 10," Fuego nodded and said.
"Even for a wild Crobat, the use of Supersonic is usually limited to avoiding large obstacles in the dark. To reach this level, the Coordinator's training has played an invaluable role," Nurse Joy said with a smile, also giving a score of 10.
Hearing the scores from the two judges, Chisana let out a sigh of relief. Supersonic—this move had been everything to him since he began his journey!
An entire year had been dedicated almost entirely to this move, with all his thoughts focused on Crobat.
One year, spent practicing a single move.
In every Pokémon Contest where Chisana's Crobat had appeared, his outstanding results were almost always due to the power of Supersonic.
Receiving recognition from Mr. Fuego and Nurse Joy was gratifying, but Chisana was still not satisfied. The recognition he desired most was from Terrance.
Unconsciously, Chisana turned his gaze toward the panel of judges, his heart tense as he awaited the score from the final judge—Terrance.
"I believe Crobat is worthy of a score of 10," Terrance said slowly...
30 points.
Another perfect 30 points, sending the audience into a frenzy. Having two 30-point performances appear in the primary judging of a Pokémon Contest was a rare sight—usually, it took several contests before even one such performance occurred on average.
Yet now, two had appeared at once, along with several other contestants who were extremely close to scoring 30. For a regional tournament, this was an incredibly rewarding experience for the audience, and it made them all the more excited for the upcoming Contest Battle.
"30 points..." Chisana felt a surge of joy in his heart. Although, as someone who had been traveling for over a year and had already collected several Ribbons, this score wasn't something to be overly proud of, receiving Terrance's recognition still made him extremely happy.
...
Unlike the performances of other contestants, Chisana's display of Crobat's Supersonic move held immense combat value, even in actual battles.
In situations involving dense attacks, if one did not disrupt the trajectory of the falling raindrops and relied solely on dodging, even Terrance's own Beautifly wouldn't be able to pull it off.
Supersonic was Crobat's innate talent. This Supersonic's detection, which resembled Future Sight, was, in some ways, even more perfect than Beautifly's air current prediction.
It was from Beautifly that Chisana drew his inspiration. He succeeded, and Terrance had no doubt that one day, Chisana could attain the title of Top Coordinator—if he could persist on this path.
In the stands, members of the Old Green House who were in the audience watched as Chisana showcased his brilliance, while Terrance evaluated him from the panel of judges. They all smiled and waved in encouragement.
Terrance chuckled inwardly, hoping that Chisana wouldn't let this performance make him arrogant.
A score of 30 in an ordinary Pokémon Contest was merely the baseline for Coordinators competing in the Grand Festival.
Coordinators who were capable of participating in the Grand Festival all had at least one or two performances that could fully highlight their Pokémon's personality and unique traits.
And although Chisana's Supersonic detection appeared incredibly impressive, there was no way Terrance hadn't noticed its flaws.
On stage, with no external disturbances and with Venoshock being a move Crobat had created itself, Crobat held every advantage. Terrance was certain that, even if Chisana hadn't practiced this performance hundreds of times offstage, he had at least undergone extensive training.
After numerous practice sessions, Crobat would have naturally developed an instinctive familiarity between Venoshock and Supersonic, making the performance go more smoothly.
But whether this smooth execution could be maintained in real combat was another question entirely.
One year was still too short. Even though Terrance had confidence in Chisana, the path had to be taken step by step. Perfecting Supersonic completely? That would take at least three to five years—there was no other way.
...
With the primary judging completed, the next phase was the Contest Battle.
A total of 16 contestants advanced through the primary judging, and they were divided into 8 matchups for the battles.
"I hope we get to see battles on the level of the Grand Festival..." a spectator joked.
"There might be one or two," someone responded.
On stage, Announcer Vivian, as usual, introduced the contestants. Holding a microphone in one hand and greeting the two Coordinators who had taken the stage with the other, she called out: "The first match of the 5-minute Battle Round begins now!"
"Go!"
The two Coordinators on the stage sprang into action immediately.
Among the matches in the Top 16 round, four contestants stood out in particular.
Aiko and her Weavile demonstrated the true meaning of speed and sharpness. Weavile moved like an assassin, cunningly toying with its opponent before elegantly securing victory.
Sora's Beautifly had adopted Terrance's style, focusing on agile evasion and excelling at disrupting opponents to create advantageous situations. By combining various moves, it gradually forces opponents into a state of despair.
Similarly, Chisana also employed a highly agile evasion style, but his Crobat was even more swift in its dodging. This made many spectators eagerly anticipate a potential battle between Beautifly and Crobat, wondering which Pokémon would prove superior in dodging.
Another Coordinator, who commanded a Solrock, had a bold and aggressive style. In actual battle, he continued to treat Solrock as if it were a sun, mercilessly engulfing opponents in flames.
These four contestants... each occupied different positions in the bracket.
Terrance glanced at the matchups. If there were no surprises, these four would be the ones making it to the semifinals.
In the quarterfinal matches, the four of them still maintained a certain level of advantage.
This advantage... lasted until the matchups for the semi finals were announced, and the audience realized that the real high-level battles were just about to begin.
The matchups were:
Aiko vs. Chisana
Sora vs. Yamato
Terrance exchanged glances with the other two judges. The meaning behind their expressions was clear to all three of them.
"Mr. Fuego, I can understand, but even Nurse Joy is getting into this...?" Terrance sighed speechlessly. They were already speculating on which contestant would emerge as the final winner—what a mischievous habit for judges to have. ƒreewebɳovel.com
