Pokemon: Radical Redux-Chapter 343: I’m sorry I couldn’t be more help
Chapter 343 - I'm sorry I couldn't be more help
Silver was just outside of Olivine City, looking at a list he had. He had the Pokémon he wanted, more or less: he had Sneasel, Murkrow, of course his Feraligatr and Ursaring. He also had a few more that he had caught, but he didn't have all of them on him. He was looking for a few more Pokémon, right now, he had about ten different Pokémon.
As for what was on the list, it was a list of locations, with more than half crossed out. He had been following Team Rocket's lead and had been taking down as many grunts as he could. Like the incident at the Slowpoke Well, that was him. He had taken down the grunts who were carrying out the illegal Slowpoke tail harvesting.
Obviously, he left the rest to others, since why should he get involved with what happens after? His goal was to take down as many of them as he could. Why? Well, he wasn't telling his reason.
At the moment, he leaned back and lay on the grass. As he did, his Pokémon, who were training with each other nearby, kept going. He couldn't help but frown as he wondered why they seemed so happy with him. His training was harsh, and sometimes he said things he didn't mean, but nonetheless, they never complained. They kept training to get stronger.
As he was thinking, his Golbat flapped its wings, flying over and nudging him while holding out a berry it had found from a tree. It wanted to give it to him.
Silver blinked and looked at Golbat, who seemed excited to see his reaction. Slowly and hesitantly, Silver took the berry. He looked at it, then up at Golbat. He really was terrible at this. Should he say "thank you"? He didn't know.
So, slowly, he raised his hand and extended it, aiming to pat Golbat's head.
Suddenly, a strange wave of sound pulsed around him. To him, it was annoying, but his Pokémon suddenly started falling to the ground, crying out in pain.
Silver's eyes widened as he clenched his teeth and tightened his fist so hard his nails dug into his palm and drew blood. He quickly returned all his Pokémon to their Pokéballs.
When he had them all safe, he looked around at the wild Pokémon. They were falling out of the trees, and some were even being forced to evolve. Silver knew a lot about evolution, second only to Green when they were in school, and he knew that being forced to evolve was extremely painful for the Pokémon.
There were many victims, but the one that caught his eye the most was a Weedle, halfway through evolving into a Kakuna. It was horrifying. It wasn't supposed to evolve like this. Its body was convulsing in pain.
He glared, and when the sound stopped, he threw out Golbat again. With a cold, angry tone, he said just one thing, "Find it..."
After all, in his mind, only one group was evil enough to do this: Team Rocket.

In town, Misty was dragging Yellow along. She was taking her to the shops and having her try on all sorts of things.
Yellow was feeling exhausted, and it had only been about five minutes since she left Ash and Brock. But she was pulled back into reality as Misty grabbed a sunhat with Pikachu ears on it and showed it to her.
"Hey, Yellow, try this! I bet you'll look cute in it!" Misty said, with almost an evil look in her eye.
"I-I don't—" Yellow didn't have a chance to say anything as Misty snagged her sunhat and put the one with Pikachu ears on her head.
"There! I knew it, you look like you're cosplaying as a Pikachu," Misty laughed, as Chuchu watched, also trying to hold back a laugh.
Yellow blushed and took the hat off, using it to cover her face. "H-hey, s-shouldn't we do something else? And can you give me back my hat... please?"
Misty sighed, and she was about to give it back when she noticed something inside Yellow's sunhat. There were two strange feathers that seemed out of place, but she didn't get a good look at them before Yellow quickly put her hat back on.
Misty was still curious as she put the other hat back and looked at Yellow. "Hey, what's with th—" But she was cut off.
From the ground, they felt a low rumble, subtle but unnatural, like a muted thunderclap coming from beneath the earth. But before they could find out what it was, the sound started pulsing around them.
Chuchu immediately fell over and covered her ears, and so did all the other Pokémon nearby. Misty looked around, confused, but it was worse for Yellow.
Remember, Yellow could understand Pokémon, and she couldn't turn it off. All she could hear was the Pokémon screaming in agony, begging for it to stop, including Chuchu. It was just like what had happened on Cinnabar Island.
Yellow couldn't stay standing; she fell to her knees from the pain of hearing so many voices. As she covered her ears, trying to block out the sound, tears started falling from her eyes, "Please, make it stop..." she whimpered. Even Chuchu refused to go into her ball, too worried about Yellow.
Then, almost as if obeying her, the sound stopped, letting Yellow gasp for air as her cheeks, wet with tears, trembled. She looked around.
Misty immediately dropped to one knee and helped Yellow stand up. "Oh my Mew, Yellow, are you okay? Do you need something?"
"I... I don't know..." Yellow said softly. "But something is happening..."
"Say no more, let's find Ash and Brock," Misty said, helping Yellow walk as she grabbed her phone.

Friede, Orla, and Mollie were walking casually across town, asking anyone and everyone about the alleged sightings of Entei, but they got the same answer each time: no one had seen anything.
Friede walked ahead with his arms behind his head as Cap looked around. "Another fail."
"I'm starting to think there might not have been any sightings of Entei around here," Mollie mumbled, crossing her arms.
"Yeah, same here," Orla sighed. "Maybe I should have stayed on the ship and done maintenance..."
"Come on, guys! Where's your sense of adventure?" Friede said enthusiastically. "As long as we keep looking, I'm sure we'll find something! And when we do, it'll lead us to our next adventure!"
Cap looked at Friede and nodded as he crossed his arms. "Pika!"
Friede was about to translate, but Mollie stopped him. "Don't need a translation for that one. Sigh At least the kids are having fun."
"Yeah, alright then. Let's see if we can find them and ask if they found anything," Friede said excitedly. But just as he was about to make another suggestion, the noise reached them.
The noise immediately made Cap fall off Friede's shoulder as he held his ears down, pulling his hat to try and cover them. Friede quickly went down to grab him, "Cap, what's wrong?!"
Orla looked around and saw all the Pokémon start falling, and some even being forced to evolve, "Mollie, you're the doctor here, what's going on?!"
"How should I know? This is weird, what's going on?!" Mollie shouted, as she rushed over and started checking on the Pokémon one after the other.
Eventually, the sound stopped, but everything was in chaos. Friede, holding Cap in his arms, looked around and said, "I need to find Liko and the others. You two make sure everything is okay and see if anyone needs help!"
Orla and Mollie nodded, seeing that Friede was actually being serious now. Whatever was happening, it wasn't normal. Friede threw out his Pokéball, released his Charizard, and jumped on his back, taking to the sky.

Meanwhile, on the edge of town, a group of people in black uniforms with a red "R" stood together, each wearing a mask. At the front were Carl and Sham.
Of course, they knew exactly what caused the sound. It was their radio signals being broadcast, the primary goal was to force the Magikarp in the Lake of Rage to evolve into an army of Gyarados. The second goal? Their mission here in Olivine.
What is their mission, you might wonder? None of your business. They'd never tell anyone their plan, maybe they didn't even know it themselves and were just following orders.
No matter. Now that everyone was focused on the noise, most people had likely already evacuated the tall buildings. After all, they weren't heartless. They weren't trying to cause human casualties... but if someone died, they wouldn't cry about it either. The soundwaves were their warning. What comes next? Well... don't hold it against them.
Behind them, a group of grunts threw out their Pokémon, Dugtrio, Donphan, and Machoke. Carl stepped forward and released his massive Piloswine.
Sham crossed her arms and glanced at Carl. "Can you at least try to speed things up? I'd rather get this over with."
Carl laughed coldly. "No promises. You remember the mission, the fun's only just beginning."
He then raised his hand and pointed toward the town.
"[Earthquake]"
He wasn't just commanding his Piloswine, he was commanding all of the Pokémon. And together, they slammed the ground in unison, unleashing a massive [Earthquake] aimed directly at Olivine City.

Ash watched the chaos erupting around the town. He clenched his teeth, already starting to piece things together. The problem was, when he hacked into the system using Porygon-Z, he hadn't found anything like this.
Which meant... the Masked Man was probably running his own side operations, off-grid, outside the system. That would explain why Ash hadn't found anything about the GS Ball in Team Rocket's databases. It simply wasn't there.
Liko, Roy, Dot, and Ludlow were also trying to process what had just happened, the noise, the forced evolutions, the fear.
The kids quickly threw out their Pokémon again now that the sound had stopped, checking to make sure they were okay.
As they were checking on their Pokémon, Ash scanned the area, looking for any sign of Team Rocket. But he saw nothing. If they were involved, they were probably outside the city. Still, he couldn't shake a strange tingling feeling, like something was about to go terribly wrong.
Liko looked over at Ash. She could tell something had changed. She'd always been good at reading people, and Ash... Ash was usually playful and carefree, like a mix between Roy and Friede. But right now, his expression had completely shifted.
"Hey, Ash... are you okay?" Liko asked gently, hugging her Sprigatito close.
"I don't know," Ash murmured, scanning the group. "Is everyone okay?"
"I think so," Liko said, looking around. "But... what was that? And is it over—?"
But before she could finish the sentence, it was as if the floodgates opened.
The ground began with a low rumble... then a stronger one... until the earth beneath Olivine City started shaking violently. People and Pokémon alike lost their balance, falling to the ground as the tremors intensified.
But that wasn't the worst of it.
The [Earthquake] grew more violent by the second. Buildings began to rattle. Windows shattered one after another. Cracks spiderwebbed from the streets all the way up the sides of buildings.
The only saving grace was that, when the strange sound had started, most people had already begun evacuating, Pokémon were thrashing wildly, and trainers feared for their safety. So the taller buildings were, thankfully, mostly empty.
Unfortunately, those very same buildings were the first to crack... and then collapse.
The town was being torn apart. And even the Pokémon who could have helped, flying-types, ground stabilizers, those who knew moves like [Protect], were mostly in their Pokéballs. Many trainers who couldn't bring them out again, or they were too weak after the forced evolutions, or couldn't even stay standing.
The group wasn't safe either. People were fleeing into single-story houses, anything more stable. But buildings all around them began collapsing.
Liko took a step back but tripped as the ground shook beneath her. Roy and Dot fell to their stomachs, scrambling for balance. Ludlow gripped a lamppost tightly, squinting against the dust and debris.
"...Looks like I need to get to work," he muttered. And in the chaos, Ludlow slipped away toward the sea.
The others tried to dodge falling debris, using their Pokémon to shoot down pieces of rubble. But then, a massive chunk of a building cracked off, heading directly toward them.
As it fell, the kids closed their eyes, silently praying for help.
Then-FWOOOSH!
A Pokéball opened with a burst of light.
"Blastoise, get to work!"

Ash sent out his Blastoise, who rocketed up using [Rapid Spin], smashing through the falling debris and turning it into harmless chunks of rock. He landed hard, striking a confident pose as the dust settled.
The kids opened their eyes, wide with shock and awe. But before they could say anything, a blinding flash of light lit up the street.
It lasted only a moment.
Too quick for anyone to see where it came from, but Ash poured Aura into his eyes, and in the distance he saw the silhouette through the light. His eyes narrowed.
He turned to the others. "You need to get to safety. Now."
"W-What? But what about you?" Liko asked, hugging Sprigatito tightly. The way Ash spoke... he clearly wasn't planning on going with them.
"Someone has to help," Ash said, his voice calm but fierce. "I won't let anyone die today. Not while I'm still breathing."
He whistled, and Blastoise nodded before retreating into his shell and launching away, firefighter-style, to assist others in the city, after all technically he does have firefighter and rescue team training
"You... you can't do this alone!" Roy shouted, struggling to his feet. "We can help!"
Dot was frantically tapping at her Rotom Phone, trying to restore its connection.
But Ash turned back, he narrowed his eyes at them in a way that left them no room for argument, "No," Ash said, his voice quiet but firm. "You want to help? Grab anyone you can and get somewhere safe."
And with that, he dashed into the chaos, Pikachu leaping back onto his shoulder, always ready for whatever came next.
Liko, Roy, and Dot were left standing there, completely stunned, they had no idea what they were supposed to do.

Meanwhile...
Jasmine was sprinting up the stairs of a tall tower, one that had once been the lighthouse. Over the years, it has been rebuilt, expanded. Now it was a full building, with the lighthouse perched at its top.
But none of that mattered right now.
She had to reach the top.
She had to check on Amphy, the Ampharos who powered the lighthouse beacon. He'd been sick for a while now... but with the strange waves affecting Pokémon across the region, she feared the worst.
"Hold on, Amphy," she whispered breathlessly as she ran. "Please be okay..."
Jasmine rushed up the stairs, her breath shallow and quick as she neared the top. When she reached the top of the tower, her heart dropped.
Amphy was curled up in a corner, looking even worse than before. Jasmine's chest tightened in panic. She ran up to her side.
"Amphy... are you okay? Please, talk to me."
Amphy weakly lifted her head, a faint "Amph...arose..." escaping her.
Jasmine had to hold back a tear as she slapped her cheeks. "Come on, I'm going to get you out of here. I knew I should have taken you to get your medicine, but I'm doing it now."
Jasmine struggled, but she started moving her legs one after the other. She was struggling, but she kept going. "It's okay if you don't understand what I'm saying, as long as you're by my side... your light will always help me, won't it?"
But as Jasmine began descending the stairs, the ground suddenly started shaking. Not just here, the entire town. She looked out the window and saw that thankfully empty buildings were being broken by the [Earthquake] and started falling. She could see some people trying to stop it, but it was no use.
Before she could decide what to do next, the lighthouse collapsed. Jasmine fell through the floors one after another until she hit the bottom with a hard thump. She slowly opened her eyes to see Amphy fall limply next to her, weakly looking at her.
Jasmine wanted to crawl over to her when suddenly a piece of the floor broke and fell down, landing on her left leg with a sickening sound. "Ahhh!" she screamed in agony. She could feel it, her leg was broken.
Pain shot through her, but she didn't let herself pass out. Her only concern was Amphy, who raised her head to look at her.
Jasmine saw Amphy looking weak and forced herself up to her elbows, crawling toward her despite her body screaming in pain. Even as the building continued collapsing around them, she crawled, determination driving her forward. When she got close, she felt her arms give out, and she collapsed to the ground.
Jasmine slowly grabbed a Pokéball from her belt and placed it on the ground between them, looking up at Amphy. "...Amphy."
Amphy looked at her with concern. "Amph..."
Jasmine forced a smile. "Amphy, please go in the Pokéball. I'll be okay, I promise." She lied through her teeth.
Amphy seemed to want to cry, trying to get up, but Jasmine just gently rubbed her cheek. "Amphy, please. Go in the Pokéball. You'll at least be safe there. You know you don't have the energy to help me..."
Amphy stared at her before raising her tail as high as she could. With a cry, she used all the energy she had to light her tail brightly, but it ended far too soon. Amphy fell to the ground, her energy spent, and collapsed onto the Pokéball, going inside it.
Jasmine grabbed the Pokéball and held it to her chest as if trying to protect it with her body. "Everyone... I'm sorry I couldn't help more." Then, she closed her eyes, finally passing out.
