Pregnant During An Apocalypse [BL]-Chapter 259 - It’s okay
Chapter 259: Chapter 259 - It’s okay
Yunfeng heard it—the soft but hurried thudding of footsteps against the wooden floor, getting closer and closer.
Panic flared in his chest. ’ I can’t let him see me like this...’
He wiped his face with his sleeve and scrambled to get up, feeling along the cold bathroom walls for support. His limbs moved stiffly, disoriented, but he forced himself to stand. His foot slipped once, but he caught himself on the sink. Then, without thinking, he turned and felt around until he felt the glass doors of the shower. He rushed in and switched on the water in a hurry.
Ice cold water rushed out startling him a lot.
The icy water hit his back first, then rolled over his shoulders, soaking through his shirt, his pants, his bandages. The cold should have been shocking, but Yunfeng barely felt it. He tilted his head down, letting the water cascade over his face, hiding the tears that had yet to stop.
"Yunfeng?! Yunfeng!" Muchen’s panicked voice rang from the hallway, approaching quickly.
"I’m here," Yunfeng called out, voice strained but even.
The bathroom door had been left wide open.
Muchen walked straight in and froze at the sight before him. freewebnσvel.cøm
"Oh—why are you taking a shower with your clothes on?" he asked, eyebrows furrowed in confusion. He didn’t wait for an answer. He stepped forward, soaked his sleeves, and gently began peeling the wet shirt off Yunfeng’s trembling form.
But when his eyes fell on the soaked-through bandages across Yunfeng’s shoulder, his expression changed.
"Yunfeng! You’re not supposed to get your wound wet!" he snapped, voice laced with worry.
He quickly guided Yunfeng out of the shower, trying to be careful not to tug too hard at his arm. Grabbing a dry towel nearby, he pressed it to the soaked dressing, frowning as water dripped down his hand.
"Damn it... I’ll ask Qiu Yue to bandage it again," he muttered, more to himself than Yunfeng.
He looked up at him then, his brows knitted. "Why did you walk into the shower like that? If you’d asked, I would’ve just given you a towel bath, alright? No need to stand in cold water like this."
He said it so casually, as if it was no big deal. As if it were just a minor inconvenience.
But for Yunfeng, that simple kindness hurt more than anything else.
His jaw clenched, and his fists tightened at his sides.
Another reminder that he couldn’t even do the simplest things anymore. Another reminder that Muchen had to keep picking up the pieces for him.
He forced his voice to stay even, to sound normal.
"Oh... I just wanted to cool down," Yunfeng said, turning his face slightly away. "I feel... grimy and nasty."
Muchen didn’t argue.
He just sighed and gently dried Yunfeng’s dripping hair with the towel, careful with his movements. He didn’t say anything else, but his hands moved with such care, it only made the tight feeling in Yunfeng’s chest worse.
And though the water had stopped flowing, Yunfeng’s eyes still burned.
"I’ll go get some clothes for you," Muchen said gently, handing Yunfeng a towel to cover himself.
Yunfeng only nodded, his head slightly tilted down, water still dripping off his hair, his body shivering—not from the cold, but from the sinking emptiness that refused to leave him. He stood motionless in the middle of the bathroom, completely exposed, vulnerable, and broken. His hands trembled at his sides. He didn’t try to move. He didn’t try to cover himself. His body felt foreign now—just a useless shell.
Never in his life did he feel so useless and unable to even control his own life.
’what will I do now... what will I do...’
Muchen returned quickly with a change of clothes. He stepped in, eyes scanning Yunfeng’s hunched posture, and softened his voice.
"Here."
He knelt down and gently unfolded the clean clothes. "Let me help."
Yunfeng didn’t protest.
He couldn’t bring himself to care. He let Muchen towel him off and then quietly dress him, lifting his arms when needed, stepping into the pants when guided. He didn’t move on his own. He felt like a lifeless doll, something hollow being propped up and posed.
Nothing about this felt okay.
He didn’t feel human.
When Muchen finished buttoning the shirt and running his fingers through Yunfeng’s damp hair to make it neat, he finally held Yunfeng’s hand.
As if Muchen could feel his uneasiness he gently cupped Yunfeng’s face.
"Why don’t we have a small walk around the house?" he asked gently, as if coaxing a child out of bed.
Yunfeng gave a nod, his expression unreadable.
Muchen opened the bathroom door and guided him through, step by step, hand in hand.
"Grandpa Kailun and Qiu Yue are in the room next to us," he said softly, trying to keep the atmosphere light. "Hana, yuki, the monkey and zei in the room opposite you." He said as he walked with him. "Oh—and guess what? Jai and Shao are back."
That made Yunfeng’s head lift a little. "They’re back?"
His voice carried a spark of life, a flicker of the warmth that used to come so naturally.
"Yeah," Muchen said, lips tugging into a small smile. "They seem good."
He leaned in slightly, lowering his voice as if sharing a secret. "But there’s... some weird aura between them. I think they’re a thing now."
"What?" Yunfeng raised an eyebrow, a hint of surprise in his voice. "Shao and Jai? Them?"
He tried to picture it, frowning in confusion. "Jai’s not... I mean, I didn’t think he liked guys."
"Neither did I," Muchen chuckled. "And Shao—who knows what goes on in that guy’s head?"
He scoffed lightly, rolling his eyes. "As if I know. That guy never tells me anything. Even though we’ve known each other for so long, he barely shares anything personal."
Yunfeng smiled faintly, the corner of his lips twitching up, though the exhaustion in his face never faded.
Muchen felt it too—the smile was fleeting.
