Psychic Overlord-Chapter 119: Kaizer’s Return, Shaking The Esper World 2
Chapter 119: Kaizer’s Return, Shaking The Esper World 2
The door to the observatory was about to open when Rina wrapped a pink scarf around Kaizer as revenge for not letting her get a good look at him. After that, they both exited casually and faced the cold world of the United Federation during December.
"Tsk, you’re walking down the mountain like you’re about to grab snacks from a gas station," Rina muttered under her breath, marching beside Kaizer as they walked towards the gathering.
Her breath fogged in the cold air, her arms crossed under her cropped jacket like she was holding in a scolding worthy of a mother and a sergeant combined.
Kaizer glanced at her mildly, his hands still in his pockets. "I was going to get snacks."
Rina’s eye twitched. "This is the End of Year Assessment and all of the student body along with many outsiders will be watching. You’re making your first public appearance after almost a year and you look like you just woke up from a nap in a haunted monastery."
"I did." Kaizer replied calmly.
"Exactly!" Rina exploded.
She pointed a finger at him as she scolded. "You’re supposed to come down with thunder and light! With prestige! You’re the Dean’s disciple, the Overlord of Telepathic Authority or whatever title those nerds gave you!"
"I remember they gave me like, twelve titles," Kaizer said helpfully.
"Exactly!" Rina shouted louder.
"You don’t get twelve titles and then stroll in with your hands in your pockets like you’re waiting for the bus!" She almost seemed ready to hop in anger on the spot.
Kaizer sighed. "You were the one who dressed me."
"I dressed you to look like a mysterious war god, not the world’s most depressed influencer." Rina countered shamelessly.
Their banter was abruptly interrupted by a normally invisible ripple in the air that manifested as a warm and familiar resonance that made the snowflakes pause mid-fall.
Dean Rochester had arrived.
He didn’t walk out from the observatory like they did, but was simply standing beside the two of them in the next moment as if space had politely rearranged itself to accommodate him.
He wore his classic tailored suit with a long winter cloak of deep navy, trimmed with silver. His cane tapped the snowy earth lightly, and his expression bore a deep, quiet satisfaction.
"Well look at you Kaizer, you walk as if the world is beneath you," the Dean said, voice smooth and free of chill.
Kaizer turned his head, giving a soft nod. "Mentor William."
Rina waved a hand. "Ayo, Grandpa William!" freёweɓnovel.com
The Dean smiled at Rina and softly tousled her red hair, having become fond of this adopted granddaughter in the 8 months they spent together. More than that, he deeply recognized her after all the sacrifices she had made for Kaizer, and even faintly regretted introducing Sophia to the young man.
Rina was enough.
Dean Rochester then looked Kaizer up and down slowly, taking in the slicked-back hair, the pristine jawline, the casual confidence bleeding off of Kaizer like heat off a forge.
"You’ve changed, but more importantly, you’ve grown," the Dean said gently.
He turned slightly, facing the direction of the crowd gathered below. "In the time since I took you under my wing, you have endured more than most elite students face in a decade, and not once did you retreat."
Kaizer remained quiet, listening with rapt attention as he had come to learn to treat the Dean’s words like the most precious currency in the world.
"Today, you reenter the world not as a student, but as a force of nature. I say this not as your teacher, but as the Dean of this Academy... Kaizer, you have already met the standard to graduate," Dean Rochester said with a hint of seriousness.
Rina gasped beside him, her expression showing both pride and disbelief because she knew what that meant thanks to her time with Madam Sylvia. Even Kaizer furrowed his brows slightly, not expecting such high praise because even if his power grew, he still felt he had so much more to learn after all the Dean had shown him.
"But!" The Dean continued, raising a hand to halt their thoughts.
Dean Rochester spoke powerfully. "True mastery lies not just in power, but in its application. In who you choose to protect, in when you choose to act, and how you wield the weight of your name."
He placed a hand on Kaizer’s shoulder, a reassuring smile of pride and satisfaction on his face.
"Walk your path as the Overlord not in pursuit of dominion, but of clarity. For in the years ahead, it will not be strength that alone determines your survival, but the choices you make with it."
Then the Dean leaned in ever so slightly with a playful smile. "And do remember to smile, Kaizer. You always maintain a cold exterior, but Little Rina and I know how warm your heart is. Open up a little and let your warmth shine to the world."
Kaizer exhaled softly. "...I’ll consider it."
Rina elbowed him with a grin. "You hear that? You might actually graduate early. I better start practicing how to call you ’sir.’"
Kaizer gave her a side glance. "Try it and I’ll send your favorite shoes into orbit."
Rochester smiled faintly, then turned toward the gathering below. "Go now, the friends you have made are eagerly waiting to meet you."
Saying this, Dean Rochester disappeared, probably heading to his office which must have become dusty after all this while. He had not spared a moment for any academy-related work as he fully threw himself into training Kaizer, which was also why he earned Rina’s true recognition.
Friends, huh?
Kaizer looked down at the group waiting for him and felt his heart shift slightly. He had always thought he was alone and would be alone, save for Rina, but it turned out that somewhere along the way, he had made a group of friends who cared enough about him to come here and wait in the cold.
While these friends were bickering and did not notice him, they had no idea how much their actions today meant to Kaizer, and how it would also change their own lives going forward.
Rina could almost read Kaizer’s mind and she gently held his hand. "Let’s go. Our friends are waiting."
Kaizer nodded softly and walked down with Rina beside him, and when he was in range to hear their argument, he could not stop his slight feeling of nervousness and appreciation, which caused a hint of his psychic power to leak out and almost cripple everyone.
Seeing this, Kaizer hurriedly retracted his power, but the minds and bodies of those here were greatly shaken beyond belief. Some, like Maria and Julia, had even stood before the dean and the current strongest of the esper world did not give them nearly such a despairing feeling.
Just what was Kaizer’s current level? Was he S+ class now?
Or something... beyond?
Rina instantly felt the change in the air and her expression warped into a horrified one. She flicked Kaizer on the temple hard enough to make him blink, especially since she attached a hint of death energy to it.
"Oi!!! Idiot Kaizer!!! Are you trying to kill our friends?! What you’re doing is the psychic equivalent of screaming ’boo’ at a funeral," she hissed.
Kaizer sighed slightly. "Didn’t mean to. It leaked."
"You leaked? You almost made Hector cry! Look, Lisa’s still on one knee and Julius looks like he’s questioning the concept of consciousness." Rina pointed dramatically at the frozen crowd down below, their faces pale, their breathing shallow, and their eyes flicking around like prey animals trying to gauge whether death was still looming.
Kaizer rubbed the bridge of his nose and muttered. "Maybe I should’ve waved first."
"You should’ve worn a bell," Rina snapped.
Then she advised seriously. "Kaizer, you’re a walking psychic apocalypse. If you don’t learn to soften your aura, we’ll need insurance just to say hi to people!"
Below them, the Divine Cognitive Order was slowly peeling themselves off the ground, each looking like they had stared directly into a black hole.
Cornelius wheezed, "I saw... my tax history."
Morgan’s voice cracked, "I forgot my own name. Then remembered it. Then forgot again."
Dante was gripping the hood of his car with both hands. "Bro, my spine feels reversed. It went inside out."
Meanwhile, Maria and Julia had resumed breathing normally but were stiffly avoiding eye contact with anyone, especially Kaizer.
Lisa’s voice finally came out, strained but composed. "Note to self... never try to prank Kaizer again."
Rina strode ahead of Kaizer, hands on her hips as she addressed the trembling crowd with the charisma of a natural-born menace.
"Alright, you babies, calm down!" she shouted.
She waved her hand dismissively. "No one died, and if any of you peed yourselves, we’ll pretend the snow did it!"
She gestured to the now half-recovered group. "That pressure you just felt? That’s Kaizer, my brother, my pride, and your friend, so quit acting like he’s gonna start snapping necks like pencils! He’s not a monster."
Then she glanced back at Kaizer. "...He’s just clueless sometimes."
Kaizer walked forward slowly, his presence fully restrained now, his gaze sweeping over the faces gathered, who were schoolmates, some subordinates, others were admirers, and all were companions.
And then the next moment, he did something that shocked all of them.
He stopped at the center of the group... and bowed his head ever so slightly.
"I came down this mountain alone, but I see now... I was never truly alone." Kaizer said, his voice calm but heavy with sincerity.
He raised his head and his voice grew stronger. "You waited here. You came, even though I never asked, and that means something."
He looked at each of them - from Lisa, to Hector, the Divine Cognitive Order, to Sophia, to Maria, and to Julia - with rare openness behind his steady gaze.
"I don’t know how to be a good friend. I don’t even know if I’ve earned the right to be called one."
Kaizer clenched his right fist with determination. "But I’ve made a decision."
Kaizer raised a hand and declared clearly. "From this moment forward, to each of you standing here... you are no longer just classmates, or acquaintances, or even eccentric stalkers."
Everyone blinked, their breaths catching, wondering what he was going to say, their hearts in their throats.
The young man did not keep them waiting, unleashing explosive words. "You are now welcome to be the first members of my organization, my inner circle of people I can trust my back to."
Kaizer smiled faintly. "I plan to call it the Overlord Force."
Silence reigned for a full three seconds as one could hear the cogs and gears in their heads turning furiously.
Then, the next moment...
"OH MY GOD I’M IN A REAL FACTION!" Morgan screamed, clutching her face.
"Wait, is there a uniform? Can I design it? Please?!" Julius demanded crazily.
"Do we get jackets?" Dante bellowed, raising his arms with joy.
Hector was gaping. "Wait. You’re telling me I got promoted just for showing up?!"
Lisa stared at Kaizer. "This is actually happening. I am going to be a part of the faction of the future strongest esper. I think I need to lie down."
Maria folded her arms and looked away, slightly flushed. "I mean, if you’re offering... I guess I can stay."
Julia adjusted her braid. "Realistically, we always were a part of your force, so this changes nothing. But I accept."
Sophia smiled warmly. "It suits you, Kaizer."
And Rina?
She grinned like the devil herself. "Damn right it does."
