Psychic Overlord-Chapter 72: Captives
Chapter 72: Captives
Their actions, given the situation and all that they had just witnessed, were quite wise, but inevitably futile. Kaizer forked a finger over, causing the two women’s bodies to become rigid on the spot, their legs lifted off the ground as they slowly levitated over toward Kaizer.
Despair etched their features as they were turned to face the placid young man who was like a lone mountain amidst a storm, the corpses of all those who opposed him still present in the area. Apart from them and the three B-class espers - including the African American man - everyone who took on the mission was dead, all killed by Kaizer’s hand.
"Wait, don’t do anything rash! That despicable guy used his esper ability to forcibly control our bodies to attack!" Sadistic Flame hurriedly said when she saw that they were getting really close to Kaizer.
Kaizer raised an eyebrow at her. "So you’re telling me that you did not already have the thought to attack together in order to split the spoils of this mission?"
Sweat appeared on the forehead of Sadistic Flame as she did not know how Kaizer managed to guess their original thoughts. "I-I don’t know what you are talking about, Sir, we just wanted to spectate the final outcome."
Kaizer actually felt somewhat amused. "Have you forgotten something important? When I first came here, that gray-haired guy who mind-controlled you said that I am also a telepath."
Reminding her of this, Sadistic Flame’s expression froze as she thought back and realized that Carl did indeed say that, which left her to display shock, then shame as she understood that Kaizer knew the truth from the very source.
Kaizer glanced at Crystal Ice, who had been silent all this time, now closing her eyes to focus. "At least your ally is a little smart. The moment I highlighted that I was a telepath, she immediately began practicing mental exercises to try and block out my intrusion."
Sadistic Flame speechlessly glanced at Crystal Ice, who now opened her eyes to look at her captor with an emotionless gaze.
"Was it effective?" she asked seriously.
Kaizer paused. "No, but thanks for conjuring the image of your friend naked as a defense mechanism. It was a pleasant sight."
Sadistic Flame’s expression changed greatly. "JULIA, HOW DARE YOU?!"
Her body exploded with caustic flames that caused sparks to ignite in the air around her body, specifically created due to the clash against Kaizer’s Telekinetic energy that held her up, looking like fireworks during a small-scale celebration.
Crystal Ice ignored her anger and turned to the silent Barnes and Lyle, who had watched the entire thing in grim silence. "What will you do with them?"
"That’s not for you to worry about. The question is what to do with you two now that you know I’m a telepath. I don’t plan to make this fact public, so something has to be done about you two." Kaizer shook his head, not interested in Crystal Ice’s laughable attempts to divert the situation.
Hearing this, the hearts of both women sank as they knew today might be their last day on this earth if they didn’t come up with something rather quickly.
Sadistic Flame smiled, but Kaizer glanced at her and spoke first. "No. You are certainly attractive, but I have no interest in making you my sexual partner to spare your life. The same goes for you, Crystal Ice, though you weren’t thinking it."
Crystal Ice displayed an expression of disgust and dissatisfaction as she glanced at Sadistic Flame. "All this time after graduation from the 1st Echelon, and you’re still such a slut, Maria."
Sadistic Flame blew her top. "And so what? I have had less than three partners in my life, the rest I strung along until I was done with them. What about you, you unlovable wretch, who ever valued your womanhood?"
"I don’t need anyone to value my womanhood for it to be good. Also, it’s worse to play with people’s feelings than to be a slut, so that makes you a piece of shit." Crystal Ice countered in a neutral tone, her demeanor driving it home deeper since she seemed to be speaking nonchalantly.
"I-" Sadistic Flame began, but Kaizer immediately sealed their mouths.
He wasn’t here to listen to them bicker, and honestly, they reminded him of Rina too much in the way their words were brutally vicious, causing even he to feel sweat forming on his back.
Kaizer stuck them to the wall with telekinesis while sealing their mouths, deciding to deal with them later. Right now, he turned and walked toward Barnes and Lyle, who looked at him with mixed emotions.
"I did the research, you know. You had barely awakened when you fought us the first time, which was why you were heavy-handed but did not kill anyone, right?" Lyle suddenly said with a smile.
"Correct. I was also more worried about rescuing my sister." Kaizer responded as he stood in front of Barnes, who was gritting his teeth.
Lyle tilted his head upwards with reminiscence. "Your sister... you know I find fate to be funny. The organization dispatched us over two years ago to monitor this city and all the espers within for the target, which turned out to be your unawakened sister."
"Given the normal trajectory of things, we should have never found her since her awakening was stunted for some reason, but who would have thought that Carla, in one of her random hunts, would pick you?" Lyle suddenly gazed at Kaizer directly in the eye.
"Before you, she had hunted more than twenty men in these past two years with very little problem. However, she initiated a set of events by targeting you that led to this very moment."
Barnes’ face changed as he glanced up at Kaizer. "Wait a minute, what are you saying, Lyle? Brat, does this mean that you awakened in response to Carla’s attack?"
Kaizer nodded. "Yes."
Lyle seemed to have guessed this, but having it confirmed was like a blow as he closed his eyes and tilted his head upwards in fatigue. Barnes’ entire body trembled with anger, his eyes leaking tears as he couldn’t believe it.
"FUCKING BITCH! CARLA, AHHHHH!!!"
Barnes went crazy as he punched the ground multiple times. Kaizer allowed him to vent because he understood how they felt at this moment. There was nothing more painful than finding out that a terrible failure or penalty you were facing was brought about by the foolish and unnecessary action of someone affiliated to you, which also drags you into the spiral of consequences.
In that moment, helplessness, rage, and regret would fill one’s heart, leaving them as anguished as a person who lost a loved one.
Lyle opened his eyes and repeated Crystal Ice’s question. "What will you do with us now?"
Kaizer rubbed his chin. "I am not entirely sure. Part of me wants to kill you because you caused the deaths of so many of my fellow students at Summit Hill University."
Barnes and Lyle felt their hearts grow cold due to Kaizer’s blunt statement, but the young man continued. "However, the majority of me feels like you two would serve a better purpose. For one, I want to know why you were exiled from the faction when you accomplished your objective?"
Lyle sighed. "We’d like to know too. All we know is that Leo went to report our success to one of the S-class Ancient Lords of our organization, Solaris. However, Leo never returned, likely being killed, and we were declared traitors to the organization, leading to this manhunt."
Seeing that they too were clueless, Kaizer was puzzled. "That doesn’t make sense. They have been waiting for my sister’s appearance for so long to fulfill the agreement. Your group should be revered as heroes for finding her."
Suddenly, there was a muffled sound from behind, making Kaizer turn to see that Crystal Ice was speaking against her bonds and tapping the wall. Furrowing his brow, Kaizer removed the bind on her mouth, allowing the woman to speak.
"I don’t know much about what you’re talking about, but from the little I’ve heard, the reasoning could be quite simple. It may be that the Ancients no longer seek the services of your sister for whatever agreement and rather wish to burn the bridge. That or the one who they reported to wants to achieve that specifically." Crystal Ice stated, trying to prove herself useful.
Sadistic Flame also shifted, causing Kaizer to remove her verbal binding. "Hah, that old fart Solaris is a cruel bastard. He once tried to recruit me into their organization as his disciple, as he is the strongest heat-based esper in the world."
Sadistic Flame wore an expression of disdain. "Not only that, but I know he is secretly a part of the Assimilation Faction within the Ancients."
This seemed to trigger Barnes and Lyle, who both shouted: "Impossible!"
Lyle especially was unable to accept this. "Do you know what you’re saying? Lord Solaris is the leader of the Domination Faction. How could he possibly be a part of the Assimilation Faction?"
