Psychic Overlord-Chapter 90: The Battle of Al-Rafid 2
Chapter 90: The Battle of Al-Rafid 2
Rina suavely walked along the corridor from the top part of the manor, glancing at Sophia, Maria, and Julia, who were taking the stairs downward to handle the remaining A-class and B-class espers who still had no idea of what happened here.
Due to her distraction, she was only able to react at the last moment when a purple-colored beam of light, with the circumference of a jar, blasted toward her head, aiming to decapitate her. With her training over the past few weeks, she was able to mobilize her store of death energy to form a barrier around her head that blocked the attack.
Rina scowled as she glanced toward her assailant, which revealed itself to be the exotic Purple Moon, who had one hand on her hips as she glanced at Rina with superiority.
"Hoh? Overlord had another S-class tag along? And the death system? You must be his sister, Rina Lunin," Purple Moon stated openly, a small smile forming on her face.
"What’s your esper name then? Overlord’s is quite well known, but now that I think of it, I don’t think anyone’s ever heard yours," Purple Moon asked with a look of surprise on her face as she realized this truth.
Rina waved a hand and wreathed her entire body in death energy, slowly floating off the ground as the horrifying black miasma coated her form, causing her to seem much more sinister as the locks of her red hair whipped about.
"My name? Ah, right, my mentor gave me one," Rina remembered that she did have something like that.
With a point of her finger, as death energy surged like a tide, sweeping toward the shocked face of Purple Moon.
"You may call me Death Goddess!"
.......
"My target is that Vargas guy, so I’ll be heading to the main courtyard. What about you two?" Julia, Crystal Ice, said with a casual tone.
"Ivana, that bitch. After graduation, she did not decide to do anything with her life but do dark esper missions," Maria, Sadistic Flame, sneered malevolently.
Crystal Ice’s lips couldn’t help but twitch. "You still haven’t let it go? Just because she stole Justin from you doesn’t mean you have to hate her. Be thankful since she proved that guy was not worth it."
Sadistic Flame’s eyes gleamed. "I know. I wouldn’t have searched her out on a normal day, but since she decided to be on the opposite side of us on a battlefield, she can’t blame me for settling old grudges."
Crystal Ice gave up and split from Sadistic Flame, Sophia having long entered the void in search of her own target. The three ladies diverted to face their opponents, who were carefully selected based on their own abilities.
Crystal Ice appeared in front of Vargas, whose meditative position was instantly terminated as the bulky fellow stood up. He casually sized up the woman who was casually skating on ice toward him, his face breaking into a smile.
"We have a mission to attend to. Tell Al-Jahim that I’m not in the mood to deal with whores at the moment. Go to my room and wait for me tonight instead."
Crystal Ice’s stoic expression faltered for the first time as slight anger and immense killing intent appeared, causing her to stomp her leg and raise a wall of jagged ice that charged toward Vargas.
Vargas roared with laughter as his arms exploded with flame, colliding with the wall of ice in a single punch that shattered the oncoming attack with relative ease. He then glanced at his slightly frozen fists and showed a contemplative expression as he realized that this woman was not simple.
Then again...
Vargas cracked his knuckles and then his neck joints as he entered a battle stance, ready to burst forth at the slightest notice while wearing a wolfish grin.
"... it wouldn’t be interesting if it were too easy."
........
Sadistic Flame stood before Ivana, the Stormcaller, both voluptuous women squaring off with differing expressions on their faces.
Ivana wore a mocking smile as she glanced at her old rival. "Aww, if it isn’t little Maria. Why are you here? Did you go back to that fool Justin and hear him tell you that you’re not as good as I am?"
Sadistic Flame gritted her teeth. "I don’t care about that retard. However, what I do care about is that you used him to get to me, and that is something I will never forgive!"
Ivana became slightly bored as she inspected her nails playfully. "Right, and I care about obtaining your forgiveness because...?"
Sadistic Flame grinned as she coalesced a fireball the size of the tire of an articulated truck. "Because without it, you will be burned to death!"
She threw the attack out, which was met by a bolt of lightning with the thickness of an arm, which caused the two attacks to cancel out. However, the ensuing explosion caused a shockwave that blew Ivana backward, causing her expression to falter.
Sadistic Flame walked over with swaying hips, her red lips curled into a smirk. "Oh Ivana, Ivana. You are forgetting that when we were students, I couldn’t do anything to you due to school regulations, so even as you tormented me socially, I could only grit my teeth and take it."
Sadistic Flame prepared another fireball of the same size as before and casually hurled it forward. "But we graduated years ago and there is one simple distinction between us. I am a top-level A-rank esper and you are merely a B-rank esper."
Ivana paled as she drummed up her lightning power and blasted it forward to counter Sadistic Flame’s attack, but it yielded the same outcome, the attacks barely being canceled out while the remaining shockwave sent her flying back.
Seeing her old rival lifting a finger up to conjure the exact same attack, there was a hint of despair in Ivana’s eyes as she understood that Sadistic Flame wanted to toy with her to death.
........
Sophia observed the battle between Rina, Maria, and Julia and their chosen foes casually, while noting that both Kaizer and Bjorn were squaring off while observing the battlefield like kings, waiting for the generals to finish their battles.
Those outside had begun to detect something wrong due to the noise of the ongoing battles, so their group did not have much time left to finish their fights, or they would be swarmed to death by the plenty of cannon fodder soldiers.
Then again, that was what she was here for.
A-class esper ability Void Walker.
As the Dean had once told Kaizer, it was easier for an esper to pass down their ability to their next generation than for a unique esper to be born, even if their parents were espers already. Among the Dean’s many children, she had inherited his spatial ability to the highest degree, making her one of the apples of his eye.
Dean Rochester was not called the strongest just because he could teleport, but because of his control of space. He could attack, defend, and support with ease using his ability, and Sophia had all of that as well, but to a much weaker degree.
So the first thing she did was to isolate the space of the manor from the outside. Well, it was said like this, but only the Dean could actually achieve spatial isolation. The most Sophia could do was create a space tunnel between the entrance of the manor and the manor itself, extending the distance between the two by a hundred kilometers.
So even if someone wanted to rush into the manor to provide assistance, they would notice that they were virtually running on the same spot over and over again, as if they were in a cartoon, but the truth was that the few steps they needed to cross had been extended spatially by a hundred kilometers.
With that done, Sophia could focus on her own target, Rocco. This man was identified by her to be a great danger due to his ability to quietly poison an area... even if her allies were stronger than him—Rocco was a B-rank esper—there was no telling what could happen.
As someone able to walk through the folds of space itself, Sophia felt herself most qualified to take him down, approaching the fellow who was quietly contemplating something in silence. If one did not know, they would likely enter his domain in which he was at the center, and he would likely engage his target in chatter to give time for the toxins to take effect.
But Sophia bypassed all of that to come and stand right beside him, her eyes flickering as she reached a hand out to the unsuspecting Rocco. The man remained pensive, not realizing that death was about to befall him in the next moment.
Immediately, the void opened slightly and Sophia hadn’t materialized in reality, grasping Rocco by the neck as his expression shifted to that of horror.
