Psychic Overlord-Chapter 92: The Battle of Al-Rafid 4
Chapter 92: The Battle of Al-Rafid 4
An A-rank esper was almost completely helpless in front of Kaizer unless their power was something special like Sophia’s. Even Sadistic Flame and Crystal Ice had to beg for their lives in front of him, and they were peak A-list espers!
In the time that Kaizer spent dealing with Soren, Bjorn managed to recover and pull himself out of the crack he was locked in, falling to a knee as he panted crazily, coughing blood to clear his clogged chest. However, his eyes became bloodshot when he saw the sacrifice his friend Soren made to secure his life.
"Overlord, I want you dead!!" Bjorn roared like a wounded beast, his body pulsating with power as a shockwave exploded from him.
Kaizer created a barrier in front of himself that split the powerful shockwave in half, allowing him to maintain his footing and not be blown about by the strong winds. The young man’s face was grim as he heard the continuous roar of Bjorn as his figure became even more compact in the end.
By the time the shockwaves subsided, Bjorn was only about 1.5 times bigger than Kaizer compared to the previous 3 times larger. However, now that the hulking man was smaller, Kaizer could faintly detect a hint of extremely dangerous intent.
Bjorn’s eyes remained bloodshot, full of anger and hatred, as he pointed at Kaizer with a thick finger. "How dare you take the life of my friend? I will show you the true meaning of pain!"
Bjorn took a step forward and disappeared from view. To Kaizer’s shock and horror, he encountered the first entity that his telesthesia couldn’t keep up with, only able to sense the fury of Bjorn’s thoughts as he appeared in front of Kaizer and threw a punch.
Kaizer immediately deployed a barrier since he could spawn it within picoseconds, but to his surprise, the psychic barrier that could withstand millions of newtons was easily shattered, and the fist connected with his chest, sending him flying backward.
Kaizer had to admit, this was extremely painful as he coughed out blood and dug a deep groove on the rooftop of the manor. Somehow, he was taken back to his first fight, where Carla had almost taken his life if he hadn’t awakened at that moment.
Kaizer lifted his body with telekinesis because no matter how hurt his body was, his mind remained pristine. He saw Bjorn gently touch the skeleton of Soren and move it somewhere out of the way with a sorrowful expression, eventually turning to him with a vicious expression of rage.
"Die!" Bjorn roared as he charged forward once more, but this time, Kaizer did not meet him head-on, but rather avoided the attack.
This naturally puzzled Bjorn because Kaizer could not have possibly seen through his full power form so quickly. Just a second ago, he was unable to even follow his movements, and now, he was weaving through his attacks at the last second?
Kaizer hadn’t adapted per se, but rather utilized a different method. His telesthesia was powerful but not perfect, as it could not detect those like the Dean or Sophia who were in voids, but it was not Kaizer’s only sensory ability.
Just as he had done with the Dean, Kaizer stopped relying on his raw telesthesia and rather mixed it with his telepathy, focusing on detecting minds within his domain, rather than physical presence.
No matter how fast Bjorn moved, his mind was always within Kaizer’s radar, not to mention that now that Kaizer put more focus into telepathy, he could hear Bjorn’s unprotected thoughts loud and clear, telegraphing his next attack.
This was Kaizer’s trump card and why the Dean was so sure that he could never be beaten.
Kaizer avoided all of Bjorn’s attacks with a hair’s breadth of time, not because he was doing it intentionally, but because he was overclocking his telekinesis to move his body to avoid Bjorn’s crazily enhanced speed.
However, Kaizer knew that this was no solution as he had to deal with Bjorn once and for all. He couldn’t even assure that he could keep up with Bjorn’s attacks as moving at this speed was pushing his body to its limits, and he could feel pain all over as muscles were reaching their limits.
If this went on, his body would be the first to give out before the battle came to an end.
Meanwhile, Bjorn also paused his strikes as he knew that he needed a new way to deal with Kaizer, because this wasn’t working. He had already jumped right to 100% of his full power and still couldn’t take this fellow down, which made him develop a hint of fear in his heart.
Even worse, his body was being torn apart internally due to the unmitigated release of his power. Just like Kaizer, Bjorn had undergone top-tier training to enhance his base physical form to withstand more of his esper power, using the strongest of steroids to make his body swell up to such a size.
Still, his body was within human limits, and having his power augmented to such a level was killing his cells, even though part of his esper ability allowed him to regenerate. 40% was the sweet spot where regeneration was slightly higher than the toll, allowing him to fight freely for hours, and many of his enemies never even warranted that much power investment.
Both men had their own thoughts, which centered around ending the battle quicker, but Bjorn did not understand the personality and thinking process of his foe while Kaizer fully understood how Bjorn thought. novelbuddy.cσ๓
This led to Bjorn’s puzzlement when Kaizer took to the air with transvection and flew off the rooftop downwards to where the insurgent soldiers were located, many of them trying to rush through the space tunnel that Sophia left at the entrance of the manor.
What exactly was this Overlord fellow trying to do?
Kaizer landed heavily on the ground, causing a small crater as he sent many of the insurgent soldiers flying. He did not waste time, waving a hand and sending in an invisible wave of telekinesis out, crushing the heads of every insurgent within range.
Of the hundred plus soldiers, more than nine-tenths of them died right away, the only survivors being those who first stepped into the space tunnel and were ’far away’ from Kaizer. Looking back and seeing all their compatriots killed, their faces paled, and they scrambled forward even faster, looking comical as the spatial distortion made it look like they were running on the same spot.
Meanwhile, Kaizer closed his eyes as torrents of psychic energy washed over him, refreshing his accumulated mental fatigue and expanding his power’s baseline greatly.
Along with his execution of Azrael and Soren, his psychic energy had increased greatly. Using his Telesthesia range as a measuring point, his previous 380 meters expanded to exactly 500 meters now.
When Kaizer opened his eyes once more, the brilliant blue light within was even sharper, and Bjorn, who leaped down from the top, felt a palpitation in his heart. Kaizer had always been dangerous, but they had been closer to being equals before, but why did it feel like the gap between then had widened significantly in this short time?
Bjorn glanced at the dead insurgents with a cold expression. "Ha, you so-called light espers can be even more brutal than us so-called dark espers. Why murder these small fries who couldn’t fight back? Just to vent your anger?"
Kaizer did not answer because such a philosophical argument was pointless. Putting aside his shift in mentality after talking to the Dean, he did this for the power boost, which was something he wouldn’t even dare to tell a dying mind in case others had powers like Rina and could extract information later on.
Instead, he tested his raw power by unleashing a raw psychic cannon on Bjorn. However, Kaizer was shocked as he could not call this a psychic cannon, but a psychic artillery!
The force had more than doubled, causing the area where he blasted to become clear, the earth, debris, and fortifications around completely disappearing, only leaving a deep ravine on the ground.
Bjorn stood in the center of this with his arms crossed, his entire body smoking as his clothing was in tatters and his skin torn from different areas. The fellow was panting heavily, as if he had run a mile, and his gaze towards Kaizer was filled with utter terror.
"You... Overlord, you were holding back so much all this time?" Bjorn questioned with strain in his voice.
He could barely move his body after suffering that blow, feeling like a normal person who had been hit by an oncoming sedan car at 80km/h. Bjorn knew he couldn’t take more of such hits, but this was impossible given the nature of this battle and how deeply each side was invested.
After witnessing such power from Kaizer, Bjorn knew that Kaizer would never let him leave here alive today.
