Psychic Overlord-Chapter 94: The Battle of Al-Rafid 6
Chapter 94: The Battle of Al-Rafid 6
Despite the situation, he was not about to give up. Vargas lunged forward, his powerful frame moving like a coiled spring unleashed as flames exploded behind him.
His right fist shot out in a straight and powerful hook backed by his flame enhancement, aiming to shatter the ice formations hindering his movement.
Crystal Ice barely shifted in response to this attack. With a flick of her wrist, a wall of translucent ice erupted between them, forcing Vargas to either halt or crash straight into it.
Vargas gritted his teeth with anger. As an offensive fighter who used his flames to enhance his physical attacks, he had never suffered as much before as he did fighting this woman, and it was all because of those damned ice walls!
Not only did hitting them yield almost nothing since she could just conjure another one, but her blasted ice was like a toxin, sticking to him after a single touch. That was why his body was covered with ice in places, and his flames could barely suppress them.
Despite this, Vargas didn’t hesitate in the end as his fist struck the ice wall, sending cracks racing across its surface, but as expected, the cold latched onto him instantly. A web of frost crawled up his forearm, biting deep into his muscles, causing instant frostbite while insidiously seeking to chill his very bone marrow.
Vargas ignored the pain that he had gotten used to during this battle and ejected a large portion of the invading frost with intense flames. Seeing that the wall hadn’t shattered like before due to his declining strength, Vargas pivoted on his back foot, rebuilding momentum which he infused into a left uppercut, aiming to break through.
Crystal Ice simply extended a finger.
The cracked wall immediately shattered—not from Vargas’s actions, but on Crystal Ice’s command—splintering into a barrage of razor-sharp shards. These frozen daggers hovered in mid-air for a few seconds before Crystal Ice flicked her finger forward, making them race towards their target while cutting through the air with a chilling whistle.
Vargas ducked, releasing a cloud of flame from his shoulders that sent him downwards with force, carefully and skillfully expelling flame from different places on his back to effect a high-speed roll to close the distance.
Even though he was utilizing his flame a lot more, his breath came out in thick mist, his body struggling against the unnatural cold clinging to his skin. He could feel it eating away at his life, and if he did not end this battle fast, he might lose a few limbs even if he won.
Crystal Ice exhaled slowly, releasing a huge mist of ice that spread out faster than normal. The consequence of this was that the temperature around her plummeted even further, and the ground beneath Vargas’s feet turned to ice in an instant.
No matter how skilled, he was not an ice skater, so his footing inevitably betrayed him as his back foot slipped, his charge forward leading to a shameful tumble.
Crystal Ice immediately capitalized on this as she pointed downward, using her power to create a sharp pillar of ice that surged from below, piercing towards Vargas’s throat but only striking his stomach as he used his flame to move his body out of the way as best as he could.
Still, he was under the threat of death as the pillar would likely pierce through his body, so he expelled 50% of his total flame power, forming a shield before him that managed to burn away the jagged tip of the pillar, making it a flat surface.
The end result was him being launched backward like a ragdoll, flipping in midair while expelling flame to help him mitigate his momentum and land on his feet, but his limbs felt really sluggish. The ice clinging to his skin had spread in this short time, his muscles stiffening from the increasing frostbite.
Crystal Ice remained motionless, her gaze impassive as she watched a bona fide A-class powerhouse struggle before her.
This entire time, from the start of the battle till now, she hadn’t moved a single step.
Vargas gritted his teeth at this realization, buying himself time as his body began steaming from the heat his esper ability was generating to melt the frost within.
However, this cruel woman would never give him such a chance, so he decided to force himself forward again, arms up ready to strike, which was all a feint, a pretense of an attack to gain just one more damn second.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, a spear of ice slammed straight into his shoulder from behind, piercing his flesh and causing him to fall to his knee as he spat blood that was partially frozen.
Vargas staggered, breathing hard as he glanced backward, his lips twitching when he saw that one of the ice stalagmites that seemed merely decorative had actually been the source of this attack.
Vargas now understood that Crystal Ice was not the typical user who had to unleash her attack from right in front of her. As long as she could create a sufficient field, her ice attacks could come from anywhere.
His fingers twitched as he tried to stand up, but he felt despair when he noticed that his motor control was almost gone. Even worse, his entire right arm was completely frozen and he couldn’t feel it at all despite it still being connected to his body.
Crystal Ice shook her head. "You wouldn’t even rank in the top 100 of the A-list. This battle tarnishes my name as the 33rd place among all A-rank espers around the world."
Vargas was stunned, his pupils constricting rapidly. "Crystal Ice?"
Crystal Ice nodded as she clapped her hands together. "You can go in peace now, knowing who ended your life."
The ice around Vargas reacted instantly, jagged spikes emerging from all directions. They closed in, trapping him in a rapidly shrinking prison that shut closed with brutal force, splashing blood and human flesh that became ice chunks by the time they hit the ground.
Crystal Ice did not even glance at the person she vanquished and simply twisted her body to the side slightly, avoiding a backstab from a blood-red dagger.
She casually tilted her head to glance at her assailant and sneered when she saw the shocked face of Kain. She knew of this guy, who had the ability to teleport between shadows, a weaker version of Malek.
Thinking of the guy who almost ended her life if not for Kaizer, Crystal Ice became incredibly gloomy as her eyes flashed with an icy blue light.
With a chilling scream akin to an ice banshee, a huge wave of frost was expelled from her body that covered the entire area. Kain, who had returned to the nearest shadow, intending to wait for another opportune moment to deal with this woman, was immediately terrified as her frost penetrated the shadow itself to reach him.
Unlike Vargas, who had a tough build that channeled flame due to his power as well as constant external fire output to put up a fight, Kain was a normal person with slightly above-average fitness that used shadows to assassinate targets. The moment the frost struck, he was forced out of the shadow and into the chilling courtyard.
"Wait, I can tell you—" Kain immediately began to plead as he sensed death upon him, but Crystal Ice was unfortunately in a bad mood.
She lifted a finger and a shard of jagged ice pierced through his neck and throat to the top of his skull, freezing his words and thoughts forevermore. She glanced at the corpse to make sure he was dead and it was not some trick before freezing it entirely and then shattering it into pieces.
Crystal Ice took a few seconds to straighten her expression, ejecting ice from the bottom of her feet and skating forward as she traveled through the mansion to seek out her next target when she suddenly felt a humongous tremor that caused the entire manor to shake.
She had to stop and gather her bearings as her heart pounded. That kind of force, if it acted upon her, she would likely not survive even a second. While picking up her movement, Crystal Ice couldn’t help but wonder who exactly had been the one to unleash such a blow, hoping that it was someone from their side.

Meanwhile, at another place, Sadistic Flame held up a brutally beaten and nearly unrecognizable Ivana, who was half-conscious as her limbs had been burned into blackened stumps while her torso was still burning actively.
"To think I actually let myself be bothered by a mere B-class esper like you. Julia was right, I really am too stupid." Sadistic Flame held her old enemy up and shook her head, seemingly losing interest.
"However, you will serve one more use before you die." Sadistic Flame said with an evil smile as she infused Ivana’s body with a huge amount of fire.
While the woman screamed weakly in agony, Sadistic Flame walked towards the central chamber and kicked the door open, tossing Ivana’s body aside while covering her ears.
"BOMBS AWAY!" She shouted, and a huge explosion sounded out the next moment.ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
