RE: Perverted Sugar Daddy System-Chapter 245: Enter The Domain
It was close to 2 a.m. when I got on the road. Keeping my guard sharp, I moved forward, taking turns and crossing streets.
Occasionally, I used Echo to check my surroundings—especially to scan for any police patrols within a 200-meter radius.
Moving at a fast and steady pace, it took just over 10 minutes to reach my destination: Carter Street, on the south side of Los Angeles.
The location was far enough to avoid any link to my apartment, yet close enough to not feel like a journey.
Standing at an intersection, my eyes studied the black van parked on the side of the road beside an old brown two-story building. After getting a look at everyone in the van, I approached it.
Dang!
Dang!
Reaching the back of the truck, I knocked softly and then waited.
I thought the back doors would open, but instead, the driver's door opened. A young lady dressed in orange overalls stepped out and walked toward me.
"Hello, how can I help you?"
The girl had beautiful eyes and kept her blonde hair very short. Her baggy outfit didn't reveal her figure, but I was sure she leaned toward the slim side.
"The night sent me."
Still wary, the blonde looked me over, then banged on the back of the van.
"Open."
Within seconds, the two rear doors were pushed open. A woman inside, smiling, curtsied and motioned for me to enter.
Nodding, I climbed into the lit-up van. I took in the various computers lining its left side, along with the man at the end who sat focused on the screens before him. I sat down on one of the swerving chairs.
The blonde followed behind, closing the door as she entered. She then took the last available chair, which placed her directly across from me.
The van trembled slightly as the engine came alive, and it immediately began moving.
"I'm Betty. Behind you is Farak, and at the wheel is Diego. What can I call you?"
"Abdul."
"Okay, Abdul. Just to make sure we're on the same page, what do you know about this operation?"
"Not much. Just that we need to rescue the governor of New York."
"Well, let me give you a more detailed rundown. Earlier this evening, while the governor and his entourage were traveling out of Los Angeles toward Malibu, they were ambushed by terrorists.
The ambush happened while they were still within city limits, and though the governor lost a large portion of his entourage, he managed to survive. For the past few hours, he's been on the run.
We've tracked down the governor's whereabouts, but the problem is he's surrounded by too many hostiles for us to get close."
I silently listened to Betty. When she finished, I hit her with a question based on an observation I had just made.
"The city is silent and at peace. Why haven't the police or even the military been informed about this?"
"We're keeping things under wraps. 9/11 happened just last year, the last thing we need is to announce an ongoing terrorist attack and spread fear across the nation."
It didn't take much effort to know Betty was holding back a lot. I had one last question.
"Is the California government at least aware of this? I need to know how many resources I can pull on."
My question implied I had connections with the California government and wanted to draw aid from them.
Now, with this angle, Betty couldn't lie about the state government's involvement.
"No, they aren't."
"I see."
Considering the governor's convoy had been attacked on a public road, early in the night when people were still active, you'd think the news would have spread throughout the city. But I wasn't surprised to learn the state government hadn't gotten the memo.
The head of the city police was likely still in the dark.
"The governor still has some of his guards with him. Together, they've run into Isol Street, a rundown area of the city. That's where we're headed now."
"It seems not even the terrorists want to be found out. They're moving in silence, aren't they?"
"Yes. They could afford to be loud when springing the ambush, but now that the governor..." freёnovelkiss.com
I was very interested in what Betty had to say, but something more interesting than the information she was spilling had just popped up.
Echo.
Discarding the old model that had caught my attention, I spammed another one, this one stretching up to 700 meters.
Studying the 3D model in my head, my focus was on two things: the sky and the massive black dome we were rapidly approaching.
Forget London, this one was easily five times the size of what had been placed on the Hyde Park Tunnel.
The only reason I was gulping and wanting to turn back was because the sky was full of witches.
Yep. It looked like a party.
It seemed like it should be a horrible situation, but I was oddly at peace.
The fact that so many witches had to be employed to form this barrier likely meant they were all low-level. I wouldn't be facing the likes of Mike or his curly-haired colleague.
I couldn't see into the barrier, but I was very confident in my analysis.
The van traveled for a few more minutes, and I sighed inwardly as it charged forward and ran straight into the barrier.
Betty showed no reaction, as if unaware of the position she had just put herself in.
Immediately after we entered, I used Echo once more, this time stretching it nearly a kilometer.
While I found Kyle's location in a heartbeat, I also saw that we had friends descending from the sky, heading straight for us.
The witches had detected us. And while I was sure the sound of the van's engine had given us away, I also suspected this barrier worked very differently from the one back in London.
"Have you been in this location before?" I asked Betty.
"No."
"Well, brace yourself, because this van is about to either be blown up or rammed off the road."
