Chapter 146: Chapter 146 Ring (Four More)

Watching Mai Qiqi and An Zihao choosing couple rings with their heads close together, Wan Chu’er was speechless.

This hardly looked like they needed her advice. The two were discussing so intimately that there was no need for her to be there.

While Wan Chu’er was feeling utterly bored, Mai Qiqi whispered something to An Zihao and then called Wan Chu’er with a smile.

"Chuchu, what do you think of this ring?"

Wan Chu’er glanced at it, a simple and elegant platinum ring for women with a sparkling plum blossom design in the center. She looked at Mai Qiqi’s slender fingers, white as green onions, and nodded, "It’s pretty."

Mai Qiqi smirked cunningly and said, "Good if you like it."

There was something off about that comment; Wan Chu’er looked at her suspiciously, "Don’t play any tricks."

Mai Qiqi humphed haughtily, turned her head away, and stopped paying attention to her, while An Zihao glared at Wan Chu’er, "Don’t talk that way about Qiqi."

Wan Chu’er rolled her eyes.

After what seemed like an age, just as Wan Chu’er was running out of patience and about to get up to leave, Mai Qiqi finally made a choice about the couple rings.

"Hello, I’d like to pay," said Mai Qiqi to the salesperson.

After An Zihao paid, Mai Qiqi picked up a box and handed it to Wan Chu’er.

What does this mean?

Wan Chu’er looked at the small box in her hand, puzzled, and turned to Mai Qiqi.

"Open it up and see."

Wan Chu’er did as instructed, and inside were a pair of couple rings, with the women’s one being the same plum blossom platinum ring that Mai Qiqi had just asked her about.

Mai Qiqi said with a stern face, "Wan Chu’er, to punish you for not telling me about Jiang Kechu’s matters, I’m going to punish you in return. That way we’ll be even, and later on we can still play happily."

"You wear the women’s ring, and then find a way to get Jiang Kechu to wear the men’s ring..."

Hearing this, Wan Chu’er immediately interrupted, "I won’t do it!"

Mai Qiqi said, "Listen to me first. How could I possibly make it easy for Jiang Kechu to get his way? After you get him to wear it, you have to tell him in front of me that these rings were bought by Zihao and me, and that I forced you to do all this. It wasn’t your intention at all."

Wan Chu’er looked at Mai Qiqi in disbelief, then turned to look at An Zihao at her side.

Mai Qiqi, isn’t this a bit too childish? And the ones being childish are me and Jiang Kechu. This is nothing but Mai Qiqi wanting to play a joke on Jiang Kechu, or even on her, as revenge for Jiang Kechu not reciprocating Mai Qiqi’s feelings and for Wan Chu’er not informing her about Jiang Kechu’s matters promptly.

Wan Chu’er firmly shook her head, "I won’t do it!"

Mai Qiqi choked, glaring at Wan Chu’er, who did not give in at all, even with An Zihao supporting Mai Qiqi.

In the end, Mai Qiqi admitted defeat, and out of spite, she reached out and gave Wan Chu’er a pinch.

Wan Chu’er grimaced in pain and said to An Zihao, "If Mai Qiqi pinches me again, I’m going to kiss her."

Mai Qiqi: "..."

An Zihao: "You wouldn’t dare!"

Wan Chu’er: "Just watch if I dare or not!"

As the two faced off, with tension about to erupt into conflict, Mai Qiqi hurriedly interjected, "Alright, alright, I won’t pinch you anymore."

Wan Chu’er huffed, then took advantage of the moment when the two weren’t paying attention to playfully pinch Mai Qiqi’s chubby cheek, "Good girl."

An Zihao let out a yelp; his woman was being flirted with by Wan Chu’er right in front of him, and he growled: "Wan Chu’er, you’re a woman...man, let’s just fight it out!"

Wan Chu’er blinked and said lightly: "Couldn’t agree more."

"No way!" Mai Qiqi interjected to stop them, so the fight didn’t happen.

Wan Chu’er shoved the ring box into Mai Qiqi’s hand, "Here, you and An Zihao wear it."

Pouting, Mai Qiqi expressed her dissatisfaction: "I picked this out for you, Wan Chu’er. Fine, I’ll step back one more time, you wear the female ring and tell Jiang Kechu that it was from another suitor, just to annoy Jiang Kechu."

After stating her demand, she didn’t wait for Wan Chu’er to respond before immediately adding: "No refusal, I’ve already stepped back so much, if you don’t agree with this, let’s end our friendship right here."

Hearing this, before Wan Chu’er could react, An Zihao’s eyes shone with excitement. He wrapped his arms around Mai Qiqi and coaxed: "Wan Chu’er is so selfish, she won’t agree. Qiqi, let’s cut ties with her, we won’t bother with her anymore."

Ha, seeing An Zihao disliking her, Wan Chu’er couldn’t possibly make him happy. She grabbed the ring box and said slowly:

"I wonder if this ring will fit me?" She said as she tried slipping it onto her own ring finger.

Mai Qiqi was thrilled, An Zihao, not so much.

Mai Qiqi excitedly corrected: "Wrong, wrong, you wear it on the ring finger for marriage, and the middle finger for a relationship to show you’re taken. It must fit, I bought it according to the size of your finger."

Wan Chu’er paused momentarily, then transferred the ring to her middle finger. It was neither too big nor too small, just right.

Looking at the ring on her hand, her mind started to whirl. She agreed to Mai Qiqi’s terms with ulterior motives - to use it as a reason to reject Jiang Kechu and make him leave her alone.

After shopping, An Zihao drove Wan Chu’er straight to the entrance of her residential complex and then sped off. With one third wheel gone, his date with Qiqi could truly begin.

Shortly after Wan Chu’er reached home, Jiang Kechu arrived, making her suspect that he must have someone keeping watch on her in the complex.

Hearing Jiang Kechu’s movements, Wan Chu’er didn’t make a sound, just kept tapping away at the computer keyboard, although her eyes kept glancing at the ring on her right hand, losing focus.

Jiang Kechu, seeing Wan Chu’er busy, did not disturb her, simply saying: "I’ll cook some fish for you tonight, to nourish your brain." Then he headed into the kitchen.

Wan Chu’er’s hands faltered, she silently griped: You’re the one who needs brain food!

After a while, waves of delicious aroma drifted from the kitchen, and Wan Chu’er became even more distracted.

"It’s ready, come wash your hands and get ready to eat," Jiang Kechu called out to her soon after.

Wan Chu’er touched the ring on her finger and then shut down her computer.

At the dinner table.

Wan Chu’er ate elegantly, her right hand swinging to and fro.

Jiang Kechu quickly noticed the ring on Wan Chu’er’s hand. He glanced at the very serious Wan Chu’er, and couldn’t help but laugh a little, saying:

"That ring doesn’t really suit you. If you want to wear a ring, I’ll take you to buy a new one tomorrow. Your skin is so fair, how about a silver jade one? The jade should be green."

Wan Chu’er faltered, who asked you to buy one!

She swallowed the food in her mouth and said: "I think this one’s pretty. It was a gift from a classmate; it’s quite nice." She finished speaking and even lifted her hand to look at it from different angles as if admiring it.

Jiang Kechu, however, found Wan Chu’er’s feigned pride so adorable, he wished he could just hug her tightly and spoil her rotten. Holding back the urge, he asked impassively:

"Oh? Which classmate? Since you call me uncle, I’d better help you scrutinize them properly."
