Chapter 231 -202: Seeking Reinforcements
Everyone was gearing up to watch Jiang Ning throw punches, but the target was a letdown and just ran off.
Ma Shicheng and the others ended up watching emptily, exchanging some polite banter before preparing to disperse, when Cui Yu had an idea:
“Guys, since we’re here, why not swing by the parallel bars with me?”
“I’m in the middle of a contest with Class Nine. Come and cheer me on.”
Cui Yu played the card of collective honor, trying to draw them to watch the contest.
After all, it was a great chance to show off. What’s the point if he won with no one watching?
After some thought, Ma Shicheng, Wang Longlong, and the rest figured they hadn’t come for nothing and agreed, heading towards the double bars.
After they left, Geng Lu looked toward the gathering spot of the sophomores and coincidentally saw the senior who had asked for her contact information earlier surrounded by a bunch of boys, facing her direction.
Updat𝓮d from frёewebnoѵēl.com.
She felt that this senior hadn’t given up; after all, they were at the same school, and he might ask for her contact information again later.
That wasn’t really the problem, the real issue was the conflict he’d gotten into with Jiang Ning, which likely wouldn’t be easy to untangle.
In Geng Lu’s experience, even though everyone was in high school, they hadn’t changed much from elementary school.
Many boys were still quite immature, causing conflicts over trivial matters that could lead to fights.
Hmm, and even the fights were just like in elementary school.
She had seen little kids fight before. It was all about grabbing each other’s necks and throwing sucker punches.
The fights she had seen in high school were similar; the only difference was that the sucker punches were thrown with more force.
What about adults fighting then? Were they the same?
Geng Lu wasn’t sure, but sometimes, she felt adults could be just as childish as kids, no real difference between them.
This year, during the New Year celebration, she witnessed relatives quibbling over petty matters, truly childish.
That evening, Geng Lu couldn’t help but ask her parents a question:
“Do people become mature as they grow up?”
Her parents were first surprised, then laughed, telling her that wasn’t the case. Adults and children weren’t much different, still immature.
Geng Lu glanced at the junior she’d met earlier, then averted her gaze, avoiding further contact.
She pondered that the guy had lost face today with Jiang Ning and might seek retaliation. Although Jiang Ning was good at fighting, Geng Lu still decided to remind him once she got back.
Just in case, you know.
Chen Siqing came over, speaking earnestly, “That senior from before seems unreliable, his talk flippant.”
Geng Lu nodded, “Indeed.”
He gave off a rather impolite vibe.
“Lucky you didn’t give him your contact info, or he’d be pestering you,” Chen Siqing said.
Actually, she and her sister, being twins, had faced this situation of being asked for their QQ many times, offering quite the temptation.
Some men would ask for both of their QQs at the same time.
Her sister, an internet-savvy and usually composed individual, angrily shared with her once that you couldn’t trust men out there. Those guys wanted to chase after them both for the double prize.
Chen Siqing was shocked when she heard it.
But after some deep thought, her perspective diverged from her sister’s. She and her sister were the closest people on earth, even more intimate than with their parents, tied by an almost identical blood relation.
Sometimes, when her sister felt pain, she could almost feel it too, quite magical.
Chen Siqing never wanted to be separated from her sister, not in the past or the future.
She insisted her sister not leave unless they met a guy who could satisfy both of them.
Geng Lu replied, “I won’t give my contact information.”
…
The parallel bars.
Compared to the numerous boys of Class Nine, Class Eight seemed much less formidable.
Cui Yu had just finished his turn, pulling himself up on the bars and then performing a chin-up before dropping down.
With a sneer, he taunted, “Let’s see, jump then. I’d like to see who can jump farther than me.”
Cui Yu launched into his mocking routine; Shen Xinli had just made a good jump before, drawing some ire from Class Eight, leading to glaring stand-offs.
Now reclaiming his pride, Cui Yu was feeling smug.
Shen Xinli, having made several consecutive jumps, was feeling spent; he turned to Shen Xu:
“Want to give it a try?”
Shen Xu was busy searching for small merchandise online, planning to buy and resell them. On hearing this, he passed his phone to Shi Qianjin beside him.
“I’ll give it a shot.”
Which teenager doesn’t love to show off?
Especially when class honor was on the line, Shen Xu warmed up briefly, then stepped onto the mini horizontal bar at one end of the parallel bars.
He steadied himself, pushed off with his legs, leaping a considerable distance to the latter section, and just managed to grab the ladder’s bar.
“That was far!”
“F*ck, that was really impressive.”
“Built like a rock.”
Shen Xu climbed down from the ladder and, clasping his fists towards everyone, shouted,
“I’ve been selling honey lately, no additives, pure honey, twenty bucks a bottle, buy it if you want to get stronger and healthier!”
“Look at me, even with a girlfriend, I’m still in top form!”
He laughed with pure joy, showing off with glee.
Someone teased with a laugh, “You, always trying to sell your stuff every day.”
Shen Xu replied, “A man’s got to eat, after all, you know about my family situation.”
He was chatting with the others when Shen Xinli turned towards Class 8 where Cui Yu and the rest were and said with disdain,
“Come on, jump! Can you even manage?”
“If you’re so capable, beat Shen Xu!”
“A bunch of losers.”
Cui Yu and his group were irritated by these words, but looking at the distance of the jump, if they tried, it inevitably seemed difficult; Shen Xu had indeed jumped very far.
“Who the hell do you think you are, acting like you made the jump?” Cui Yu blurted out in anger.
Shen Xinli smiled coldly, his face lifted in mockery,
“Don’t worry about whether I made the jump or not, I just want to know, wasn’t it one of our Class 9 guys who did?”
“You all in Class 8, don’t take it the wrong way, but you’re nothing but trash!”
Having said that, Shen Xinli revealed a triumphant smile, feeling utterly content. Usually, in Class 9, he would strut around with his good friends, but being looked down upon by Class 8 had always been a sore point—now he had finally reclaimed some pride.
Plus, his usual jealousy towards the attractive girls in Class 8 made it impossible for him to hold back his words,
“If you ask me, just get anyone from your class to jump; if they can leap further than the bar Shen Xu set, I’ll acknowledge that Class 8 has some real men.”
Shen Xinli noticed some girls by the ping pong tables looking over, and feeling even more pleased, he raised his voice,
“Otherwise, the boys of Class 8 might as well be little brothers; better quit school altogether and go dog thieving instead.”
He pointed to two stray dogs at a corner of the playground, which, for some reason, had appeared at Four Middle School ever since the start of the year and had been left unattended.
Class 9’s students, half-joking, had thought about forming a “Dog Stealing Squad.”
“Damn it!” Cui Yu couldn’t contain his anger.
Dan Kaiquan said, “I’ll go find Zhang Chi and get him to come jump.”
Zhang Chi, Class 8’s sports rep, was physically fit. Although not the toughest kid as a boarding student, he had a talent for the long jump and intended to pursue sports afterward.
Guo Kunnan peered across the playground towards the other side of the schoolyard and remarked,
“It’s too far, and they’ve been playing basketball for most of the period. I don’t know if anyone’s up for jumping now.”
Dan Kaiquan hesitated, feeling a bit embarrassed to run all the way over for such a petty challenge.
Wang Longlong timely suggested, “We could ask Jiang Ning!”
He gestured towards Jiang Ning, who was playing badminton nearby.
Upon hearing this, Cui Yu and the rest looked in that direction to see Jiang Ning holding a racket, standing in place while Chen Siyu ran to pick up the shuttlecock.
‘That’s right, I totally forgot about Jiang Ning!’ Cui Yu suddenly remembered how formidable Jiang Ning was in a fight.
Next moment, he hesitated,
“Can Jiang Ning do it?”
Dan Kaiquan declared, “Given Jiang Ning’s physical fitness, it shouldn’t be a problem.”
His comment wasn’t whispered, and Shen Xinli from Class 9 heard it, nearly bursting into laughter.
Previously, Shen Xinli had pushed Liang Sheng into spying on Class 8, aiming to scope out the beautiful girls. To his surprise, there were three stunning ones who sat near Jiang Ning, and thick jealousy turned his face green.
Why? Because he was smart, tall, and handsome?
That wasn’t enough!
At least Shen Xinli thought it wasn’t; he believed that such guys were typically all show with no substance, like Class 8’s monitor, whom he considered a poser.
Shen Xinli spoke with disdain,
“It’s not that I’m looking down on him, but he spends his time playing with the girls. Do you really think he’d come and jump this?”
At his words, Cui Yu and Dan Kaiquan looked at Shen Xinli strangely, realizing that Jiang Ning’s exploits hadn’t spread throughout Four Middle School.
Song Sheng, for instance, was hospitalized afterward.
As for Deng Xiang, too concerned with his pride, he didn’t tell a soul.
“Wait and see,” laughed Cui Yu, brimming with anticipation. He truly had the audacity!
He couldn’t wait for Jiang Ning to come and slap Shen Xinli’s face.
Cui Yu dashed off to find Jiang Ning, while Dan Kaiquan and the others watched Shen Xinli as if he were some clueless fool.
Shen Xinli, still dismissive in his heart, was puzzled by one thing—typically, boys like Jiang Ning who were chummy with the girls weren’t generally well-liked.
Yet, why did it seem that Class 8’s boys had no issues with him?
