Chapter 29: Chapter 27: I Meet Qin Yugang (Looking for Recommendations!)_1
The police officer on the scene had initially intended to mediate on the spot.
Both parties appeared to be unhurt.
One was scalded, the other was slapped; it couldn’t be anything serious. Could a slap really cause such damage? He was not buying it! Taking everyone back to the station would be a hassle and add to their workload.
However, Li Jianguo insisted on compensation.
He would not back down until he was compensated.
He was being completely obstinate.
Zhu Rui, although realizing that something was amiss, was not one to let himself be taken advantage of. He resolutely refused to compensate, even clamoring to go to the hospital for an examination. Both sides were at an impasse, neither willing to back down.
Seeing that mediation was ineffective.
And the incessant squabbling was truly vexing.
He thought about bringing them all back to the station.
To give them a good lesson.
In the car.
Zhu Rui and his two companions were glaring at Li Jianguo, plotting to get even with him. They had even begun to plan on making Li Jianguo bleed a bit to teach him a lesson.
Li Jianguo saw Zhu Rui’s eyes in the rear-view mirror from the front row of the vehicle.
It made him nervous.
He was just a small businessman.
He dared not mess with these hoodlums.
He just hoped Tang Qing hadn’t deceived him, and these people would vanish for good and stop causing him trouble, lest his budding business would be ruined. It was exhausting having to guard against thieves every day.
"Is your Chief Guo here today?"
The leading police officer was surprised to hear this. He hadn’t expected Li Jianguo to know their chief. He quickly replied with a smile, "Yes, he is. Do you know our chief?"
"Sort of, I wonder if I could meet him." Li Jianguo vaguely replied.
"Okay, I’ll see if he’s available."
"Thank you." Li Jianguo expressed his gratitude.
"You’re welcome, just wait for my message."
"Sure."
Seeing this.
Zhu Rui felt a chill down his spine.
Could it be that the other party really had some serious connections? or was this all a set up to extort him? Zhu Rui was slowly starting to see the light. However, he didn’t realize that this was more than just a simple extortion — they were gearing up to give him a real hammer blow.
Zhu Rui sneered internally.
The worst-case scenario was that he would swallow his pride.
Once I get out, he would not give them a chance to use their connections again. How could he swallow being bullied by a small businessman?
...
Not three minutes later.
Before Li Jianguo even started his statement, he was summoned by Guo Cheng.
Arriving at the office on the second floor.
The door was still open.
Li Jianguo could see from the door that Guo Cheng was not at his desk but sitting by the window leisurely drinking tea.
He didn’t feel any ill will.
He was getting on in years.
Having experienced many things in life, he had learned to take things in stride. He didn’t have the impulse and passion of young people, nor did he have any interest in holding grudges. All he cared about was living his life well.
Always being disgruntled about this and that, one’s heart would gradually become twisted over time. Li Jianguo had seen a few people like this who were incredibly fragile.
When something didn’t go their way or they felt wronged, they would grumble about this and that.
At first, Li Jianguo didn’t think much of it, but after hearing such complaints regularly, it felt as if the government never did anything right.
One couldn’t tar everyone with the same brush.
There are plenty of people with dreams and passion.
Most people conscientiously contribute to their roles, ensuring the smooth running of the country. Although not well-educated, Li Jianguo, now approaching middle age, recognized this fact.
"Here comes Li Jianguo."
"Yes, busy yourself." Guo Cheng nodded briefly.
"I heard you wanted to see me?" Guo Cheng asked. He knew of Li Jianguo’s restaurant and had dined there twice. The food was indeed good. However, he couldn’t remember who Li Jianguo had connections with.
If it were a high-ranking official, he would definitely have gotten word of it, but clearly, Li Jianguo did not belong to that category. He simply assumed that it was some friend’s connection, so he was quite casual about it.
"The thing is, those individuals downstairs tried to extort a few thousand yuan from us a few days ago, and today they beat up one of my employees. So, I want to ask Chief Guo to uphold justice." Li Jianguo carefully explained the situation.
"Could you tell me who this friend of mine you’re referring to is?" Guo Cheng didn’t immediately agree.
"Qin Yugang." Li Jianguo said.
He didn’t understand why Tang Qing had instructed him to bring up the matter in front of Guo Cheng, a man he didn’t exactly have a great relationship with.
But it was clear Tang Qing was doing this intentionally. He wasn’t really seeking help, and his motives were definitely nothing positive. Thinking of this, cold sweat began to trickle down Li Jianguo’s forehead.
He could only hope that Tang Qing wouldn’t harm him.
Upon hearing Qin Yugang’s name, Guo Cheng’s face turned cold. His brother-in-law’s issue hadn’t happened long ago; how could he have forgotten it? The incident had long become common knowledge in their circles.
His younger brother-in-law was detained by Qin Yugang for half a month.
During this half month, his wife and mother-in-law grumbled at him day and night, which was very annoying. Moreover, he had no control over Qin Yugang, who was not planning on letting the matter slide. Guo Cheng was precisely in a deregulatory state.
During this time, Guo Cheng was yelling inwardly.
Finally, you’re in my hands.
A thousand thoughts washed over Guo Cheng. He started planning how he could use this situation to teach Li Jianguo a lesson first. When Qin Yugang came to beg him for help, he would give him an intense face slap then.
"Do you have evidence, also, how serious are their injuries?"
Hearing this heavily biased questioning.
Li Jianguo realized that he was clearly supporting the other party.
But Tang Qing had already told him earlier that the process didn’t matter. As long as the men were taken into custody once and he brought up the matter of the protection fee, he didn’t need to concern himself with anything else, and the scripted scene could end here.
"I don’t have any evidence. We were too scared at that time. But those people — they merely suffered some minor burns." Li Jianguo explained.
"Without evidence, don’t make groundless accusations. Also, doesn’t a burn count as an injury?" Guo Cheng defensively replied. Then he dialed a number on his phone and summoned a subordinate.
"Chief, what do you need?"
"Are their statements complete?" Guo Cheng asked.
"They’re done. The event was pretty straightforward, and there was no significant damage. The party who did the hitting has agreed to pay medical expenses, but the party who got hit insists on compensation for damages to the restaurant and emotional distress," The subordinate reported, greatly puzzled. The boss was insistent on antagonizing a group of unemployed people to the extreme, which didn’t make sense. But, appearances could be deceptive, and he couldn’t figure out what was really going on.
Seeing that his subordinate had finished his report.
Guo Cheng looked at Li Jianguo.
Li Jianguo noticed Guo Cheng looking at him and understood that it was his turn to state his stance.
"Alright, I guess I was just bitten by a dog. I agree with this resolution. I will convince my staff." Li Jianguo pretended to be making a momentous decision, his face looking grim.
Seeing Li Jianguo’s distress.
Guo Cheng felt a sense of pleasure.
"It’s good that you guys settled it. You should also give a supplementary statement." Guo Cheng said again.
"Alright."
Watching Li Jianguo’s retreating figure, Guo Cheng softly said, "The real show has just begun."
But who’s merely watching.
And who’s part of the show.
He still wasn’t sure.
