Chapter 9: Venturing Out Into A New World Part One

Once Kana calmed down, she realized something. She had seen another path on the other side of the temple; it was barely visible, but there was no exit onto the other side of the temple, just the one she came through, which was now blocked off. "Umm, Lysairth, how do we leave?"

Now that Kana had a good look, the room was filled with many statues of dragons and in the middle was a huge statue of a dragon. She had been so busy being scared and tossed for a loop that she had not even realized the life sized stone dragon staring back at her.

"Oh, right. I'm sorry I forgot. Go up to the dragon statue and place your paw in the imprint, then say: 'Twinkle, twinkle. I'm so pretty. I will shake my booty and come for you! Open!'"

Kana felt something was truly off about what Lysairth said, but since she was not sure if she was just teasing her again or not, she did as she was told: "Twinkle, twinkle. I'm so pretty. I will shake my booty and come for you! Open!"

*Pfft!*

"I knew it! You lied to me!" Kana yelled out, but soon her attention was taken by the rumbling and shaking of the temple as a part of the statue began to break apart in cubed segments. Kana watched in awe as each cube glowed a blue glow and began to line up, creating stairs leading down into a dark abyss. The whole process only took a few minutes, but when it was done, Kana took a peek over the edge only to shiver from head to toe. "Ummm… Lysairth, you do not mean for me to climb down this staircase into the black abyss where all the ghosts are probably waiting to eat me, right?"

"Kana, dear, I have no idea why you are so scared of ghosts when you will need to fight things many times scarier to level up. Do you not wish to cast those cool spells!?" Lysairth was going to use the whole cool spell thing to its fullest to get Kana to grow stronger.

"Ngh… Fine! Here I come, you fucking bastards!" Kana screamed out an obscenity before charging headlong into the abyss. But to Kana's surprise, as soon as she entered the dark area, the walls began to light up, lighting her path.

"Lysairth, you could have told me this place lit up on its own..." Kana complained she had been frightened out of her dragon skin when she thought of being stuck in the darkness.

"To be completely honest, Kana, I did not know if all the magic circles were still intact, and it seems some are not; as you can see, we have passed a few spots that are still dark." Lysairth wasn't lying; she never thought that these lighting spells would have lasted through the ages.

Kana continued down the long winding staircase for quite a few hours. She even had to stop a few times to rest. One thing she was happy about was her ability to converse with Lysairth, which was making her journey fun. In her past life, she really could never talk to anyone like this. She was either out trying to secure food for the day or hiding away in the female restroom by the police station at night. A homeless orphan's life was not an easy one. There were days when sometimes people would give her a few dollars to get a warm meal or even bring her some warm food. On those days, she felt as if an angel had come down from the sky and gave her a small blessing. Sadly these people would go no further except a little food. But for a young girl who had nothing, she could not complain. That bit of food helped her quite a bit.

Finally, Kana reached the end of the stairs and what stood in front of her was nothing but rock. "I must ask, this place is not umm sealed up, is it?"

"Hmm? No, there should be a magic circle on the floor somewhere. If you stand on it and make various cute poses, you will be able to activate it." Lysairth lightly explained.

Kana, on the other hand, was not falling for another one of her tricks. "So, in other words, I just need to stand on it."

"Tch!"

"You just clicked your tongue, didn't you!? I knew it, and before, I just needed to say, 'open,' didn't I!?" Kana felt very depressed. She had been tricked yet again!

"What is wrong with making cute poses!? Cute is what saves the soul! Cute is what stops wars! Cute can heal any wound! Cute is greater than any god! So come on meow for me. Say meow!" Lysairth was really laying it on. Kana learned one thing new about Lysairth. She was one hundred percent obsessed with cute things.

"Anyway… Lysairth, Can I ask why you were trapped in the temple? It really doesn't seem to be a place many would go." Kana decided to change the subject as she searched the dusty floor for a magic circle.

"Hmmm? Ahh, I was sealed there as punishment. Who would have thought destroying a human country and eating their king was a crime. It's not like it's my fault that the bastard they called a hero or whatever said all demi humans should die and drew his sword on me. All I did was pinch his butt a little. I mean, where the hell did he get demi human from? I am a dragon!? How dare you place me in the same realm of a demi human. This is why all humans are dirty cockroaches who only know how to multiply." Kana realized her question might have opened a pandora's box and that she now had to listen to Lysairth's ranting. At the very least, she now knew she didn't need to make cute poses.

"Found it..." Kana Finally found the Magic circle and stood on it. Once she stood on it for a short time, it activated by itself, and a flash of light engulfed her.
