Reborn as a Superpower Girl in the 80s-Chapter 40 - Finding a Treasure
Chapter 40: Chapter 40 Finding a Treasure
Chapter 40 -40 Finding a Treasure
Luo Qiao checked the time and since there was still time, she went to the waste station to see if she could get lucky and find those missing high school textbooks. Unexpectedly, the old gatekeeper still recognized her.
After entering, Luo Qiao searched for a long time but only found a thread-bound medical book and not the high school books she lacked. As she was about to leave, she tripped over a stone and almost fell.
When she steadied herself and was about to leave, she noticed a small part of the stone had a hint of green. She couldn’t help but bend down to pick it up, her heartbeat quickening as she examined it closely.
Could this be the legendary raw gemstone? She wondered how it ended up here. Just then, the old gatekeeper came in looking for something and said, “Did you find what you were looking for?”
Seeing Luo Qiao holding the stone that was used to prop the door, he asked, “Girl, what do you want with that? It’s just an old man’s doorstop.”
Luo Qiao said, “I almost tripped over this stone, but it looks quite pretty.”
The old man replied, “If you like it, there are a few more like it by the mountain wall outside, but other than looking nice, they’re not good for much else.”
Luo Qiao smiled and said, “Then thank you, old man. I was just about to go back to work on the flowerbed.”
So Luo Qiao took that stone with her as well, and upon checking the dirt wall outside, indeed there were a few inconspicuous stones lying around, although none as nice as the one in her hand.
To be honest, Luo Qiao wasn’t sure if these were raw gemstones, but the one in her hand possibly showed green because it had been rubbing against the ground for a long time, revealing a patch the size of a fingernail.
Maybe they had been confiscated during a previous raid and discarded in the corner because no one recognized them. Including the one in her hand, there were six stones in total, and Luo Qiao picked all of them up and put them in her basket before heading to the gate.
The old man saw that Luo Qiao had only found one book and waved her off, but she said, “And these stones.”
The old man suddenly burst out laughing, saying, “Those stones are just taking up space if left there. What use are they to you, child?”
Luo Qiao felt a bit embarrassed to just take them for free, so she said, “Old man, I don’t feel right about taking this without giving anything in return. How about you just take something for it so I can be at peace with it?”

The old man laughed even harder, replying, “You’re a strange girl, not happy without paying for it. Alright then, just give me three pennies.”
Luo Qiao didn’t have small change and took out a fifty-cent piece instead, saying, “Here’s fifty cents. You always look after me, so don’t bother with change. Buy yourself a pack of cigarettes with the rest.”
After saying this, she quickly ran off. A few steps away, she playfully turned around and waved at the old man, “Goodbye, old man.”
She found a secluded corner to store the six fist-sized stones from her basket into her space. Seeing that it was getting late, she hurried back. She still had to go to work in the afternoon.
Not long after leaving the commune, right under the big bridge where the river bank was, she saw two people fallen down by a bicycle that lay upside down beside them. It was close to noon, and there weren’t many people on the road.
It seemed they had just fallen because the bicycle wheels were still spinning. Luo Qiao quickly ran over and anxiously called out from above, “Are you okay?”
One of the girls, upon hearing someone ask if they were okay, suddenly began to cry and shouted at the woman on the ground, “Mom, Mom, what’s happened to you? Please don’t scare me.”
Luo Qiao saw the girl vigorously shaking the unconscious middle-aged woman and hurriedly intervened, “Don’t shake her, check where she is hurt first.”
