Chapter 53: Chapter 53 Sending Fish
Chapter 53 -53 Sending Fish
She paused for a moment and then said, “These past months, it’s been you, Auntie, leading me to work and looking out for me everywhere, which is why I’ve been able to fit into our village so quickly.
Moreover, you’ve taught me so much. I just want to express my gratitude; please don’t refuse it.”
Auntie Gao looked at her husband, the brigade leader, who then said, “Since it’s the child’s sincere gesture, we should accept it. Make sure you help her out more in the future.”
Now that her husband had spoken, Auntie Gao still said, “But don’t do this again in the future. You’ve finally got some nice things for yourself; use them to nourish your own body first. Look at how thin you are while just growing taller.”
Luo Qiao smiled and said, “I understand. Anyway, thank you for taking care of me during this time.”
Auntie Gao replied, “What’s there to thank? Settling down in our village means you’re one of us, a fellow villager—it’s only right, isn’t it?”
Thinking of something else, she added, “Also, we aren’t so formal here in the village; there’s no need for such polite language. Why be so ceremonious with your auntie?
Luo Qiao laughed and said, “Alright, I’ll take your advice. I won’t be so formal with you anymore.”
Auntie Gao heard Luo Qiao change her wording and laughed, “That’s more like it,” before bursting into hearty laughter.
After fetching a basin of water, they finally put the fish in it. Fortunately, the basin was big enough; the fish weighed more than three pounds, drawing the whole family to gather around.
The brigade leader’s grandchildren, a boy and a girl, pointed at the fish in the basin and laughed, “Fish, fish, big fish!”
Auntie Gao hadn’t expected the fish to be so big either and asked quickly, “Luo Qiao, did you catch this fish at the pond?”
Luo Qiao replied, “I went up the mountain after work today and saw some fish in the pond, so I caught a few.” She then bent down to play with the two children.
The brigade leader and his wife exchanged a look, and the brigade leader queried further, “You went to that pond?”
Luo Qiao responded, “Yes, when I saw there were fish, I thought I’d catch a few. Why, what’s the matter?”
The brigade leader said, “Don’t go there alone in the future. That pond might not look big, but it’s deep, and there were people who drowned there a few years ago trying to catch fish.
Villagers don’t let the children play near that pond, and I regret I didn’t think to warn you. Be careful not to go there to catch fish again.”
Luo Qiao said, “Oh, I see. Okay, I’ll bear that in mind. Thank you for the warning, brigade leader.”
But not going was out of the question; she still needed to earn money from the fish in that pond. Nevertheless, it wouldn’t do to disregard the well-intentioned advice.
Luo Qiao didn’t linger much longer, saying a few words before saying goodbye and leaving. Auntie Gao had wanted to accompany her but was declined by Luo Qiao.
It was only after Luo Qiao had made her way back to the Educated Youth Spot and entered through the big gates that the figure following behind her departed.
Once home, she tidied up quickly and entered the space, heading straight for the pond by the waterfall at the valley.
Seeing the fish in the pond, she smiled contentedly. She really didn’t know what species they were, though they were all black and not snakeheads, with few bones and delicious flesh.
She planned to look for shrimp, crabs, and other fish fry to put in the pond later on, which would enrich it greatly.

She had only recently figured out some workings of this space. The letter in the study hadn’t contained all the details. Inside the space, she could perform all operations with just her thoughts, saving a lot of trouble.
Using her thoughts, she harvested all the ripe fruits in the valley and stored them. She had previously tried in the space to hasten growth with her Special Ability, but unfortunately, it failed. The Wood-Based Special Ability didn’t seem to affect the plants within the space, likely because there was some restriction in place.
