Chapter 106: team-building exercise

Freya was quiet now, her fingers tapping the table, her stern facade masking whatever she was thinking.

Rhea tilted her head, her amber eyes searching Kael’s face, waiting for a jab from Freya that didn’t come.

The silence stretched, heavy with doubt—were they even taking him seriously?

Kael’s lips quirked, a hint of mischief in his expression, as if he sensed their skepticism and relished it.

"You guys ready?" he asked, his tone challenging. "Or do we need a team-building exercise first?"

Freya stood abruptly, her chair scraping the floor, her blue eyes blazing with determination. "I’m ready. Let’s go now."

Rhea shot to her feet, her competitive fire flaring, her crimson hair bouncing. "I was born ready."

Kael raised a hand, his voice calm but unyielding.

"No, you’re not. I need to check your synergy. I’m not risking your lives because you’re impatient."

He stood, his movements smooth, but that mischievous glint in his eyes deepened, like he was holding a card he hadn’t played yet.

"Take a walk after dinner, clear your heads, digest the food. I’ve got something planned for tonight. Get ready for it."

As he turned to leave, his face carried a knowing look, a spark of something playful yet commanding, like he knew what to do, and it was something perverted.

He paused at the doorway to his room, glancing back.

"Oh, and your first task? Wash these plates together. Not one breaks... Together." His voice emphasized the word, his gaze flicking between them, a clear warning against another stunt like Freya’s earlier prank.

Freya’s lips curved into a smile, her blue eyes locking on Rhea with a teasing challenge.

"Ok," she said, her tone almost too sweet.

Rhea glared, her amber eyes narrowing, but she didn’t argue.

Kael nodded, satisfied, and headed to his room, his steps light, already diving into research for the mission.

Behind him, the dining room hummed with the clatter of plates being gathered, Freya and Rhea moving in tense sync, their rivalry simmering but held in check—for now.

Rhea stacked a plate in the sink, Freya scrubbed a fork, her movements precise, her silence a calculated retreat.

It was already hard enough between them.

Rhea burned to call Freya out for cherry-picking the easy ones, while Freya fantasized about dunking Rhea headfirst into the soapy water every time that elbow jabbed her hand.

But they had to prove Kael that they were ready.

Ready for the mission.

___

They had finally managed to clean all the plates without fighting with each other.

Rhea slipped into her room, her bare feet scuffing the tiles, her amber eyes glinting with a mix of smugness and curiosity.

She grabbed a rag and wiped down the door, the faint streaks of Kael’s release disappearing under her quick, careless swipes.

Her black panties clung to her hips, wedged, the only thing she wore, her crimson hair spilling wildly over her shoulders.

She didn’t care if her ass was visible to Kael —let Freya stew in her jealousy.

Freya, meanwhile, paced the hall outside, her eyes narrowed in thought.

What is Kael planning?

Her lips twitched, half a smirk, half a frown, as she wondered what he’d cooked up this time.

Rhea sauntered back to the hall, still in her panties, her scarred skin bare and unapologetic as she perched on the edge of the dining table, one leg crossed over the other.

Freya’s gaze flicked to her, her expression souring.

"Wear something," she snapped, her voice sharp with disdain. "You look like you’re begging for attention."

Rhea’s smirk widened, her amber eyes gleaming with defiance. "Your fault, icy. My shorts are in the wash after your little stunt. I’ll change after a shower—after whatever Kael’s got planned." She leaned back, her hands braced on the table, her tone teasing.

"Got a feeling I’m gonna get sweaty."

Freya’s eyes narrowed, her lips pursing as she turned away, her face a mask of cool indifference.

She paced a few steps, her boots clicking softly, refusing to take Rhea’s bait.

Rhea chuckled under her breath, swinging her legs, the silence between them taut with their unspoken rivalry.

A while later.

The door to Kael’s room creaked open, and he stepped out, a small tub of water cradled in his hands, a mischievous grin curling his lips.

"I’m back," he said, his hazel eyes sparkling as they flicked between the two women.

Freya and Rhea turned, their gazes locking on the tub, confusion knitting their brows.

"What’s that?" Freya asked, her voice laced with skepticism, her arms crossing.

Kael set the tub on the floor in the center of the room, the water sloshing gently, catching the light.

"This," he said, his tone light but edged with intent, "is a test to see how well you two work together."

He straightened, his dark tee stretching across his lean frame, and gestured for them to come closer. "Rhea, Freya, sit opposite each other, tub in the middle."

They exchanged a glance, confused, and moved to the floor. Freya knelt on the floor and Rhea sat with her legs crossed opposite to her, flashing Freya her panties which barely covered her personals anymore.

Freya grimaced and looked the other way. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com

"Dip your hands in the water," Kael instructed further.

They did, the cool liquid lapping at their wrists, Rhea’s fingers flexing and tapping the water, creating small waves like a kid, Freya’s pale ones steady.

Kael placed the thermometer in the tub, the numbers flickering.

"Your job is to keep the water between 70 and 75 degrees Celsius for five minutes. Together."

Rhea barked a laugh, her amber eyes flashing with amusement.

"That’s it? The big test?" She leaned forward, her crimson hair spilling over her shoulder. "I can evaporate this whole thing in seconds."

Freya’s voice was sharp, cutting through Rhea’s bravado. "It’s a team-building exercise, genius. Learn to listen." Her blue eyes bored into Rhea, her tone dripping with condescension.

Rhea’s glare snapped to her, her lips curling. "Don’t tell me what to do, icy. You’re not my boss."

Kael raised a hand, his voice calm but firm.

"Enough. Here’s the deal: you both, use your powers at the same time. Rhea heats, Freya cools, so the temperature stays steady. Stays between the range 70 to 75. Keep it that way for five minutes continuously. Prove you can do it."

He reached for their collars, his fingers brushing their necks as he unclipped the dull metal, freeing their powers.

The air shifted, a faint hum of energy as their abilities stirred. "Start when I say. Ready?"

"Piece of cake," Rhea said, her grin cocky, her hands already twitching with the urge to burn Freya’s irritating face.

"Understood," Freya said, her voice cool, her blue eyes focused on the water.

Kael nodded, his hazel eyes glinting with quiet amusement.

"Start."
