Reincarnated in the Royal Family with a Plunder System-Chapter 30: Resilience is created, not inborn
Chapter 30: Resilience is created, not inborn
"So sis, what’s next?"
"More training of course," she said. "We are going to approach it differently now. But before that, did you get another Sub class choice?"
Ryan immediately checked the class selection window. "Yeah, there really is a new subclass option. What is this... hm, Energyst?"
[Class Selection Window]
[Master of One]
This class makes all the abilities you plundered focus on perfecting one aspect of your skillset.
[Energyst]
This class breaks down all the skills you plunder into raw energy that you can use to create elemental affinity. For example, illusion abilities will become illusion energy, giving you access to illusion elemental affinity.
—
Ryan didn’t clearly understand the class, but he had a hunch.
Seraphina touched his hand and read the subclass through his thoughts.
"Ah, this class isn’t bad," she exclaimed. "What it does is somewhat like the Mage Path, but better."
"How exactly?"
"Mages need to choose one elemental affinity when they receive their first subclass. I chose soul element affinity, for example. And now, as long as I understand more things about the soul itself, I can change that understanding into my own mage arts."
Ryan could understand that.
It was a path of magic that needed comprehension.
"Ah, I see." He mused aloud. "So what this Energyst class can do is that it can transform the skills I plunder into elemental affinity for me. If I plunder soul class skills, I will get soul class affinity and then, all of my understanding regarding the soul should be able to become my new skills."
"You understand quick." Seraphina pinched his cheeks. "Yes, it should be a class like that. This means you can have infinite affinities. A mage, but a hundred times better.
"Normal mages are limited by their affinities, like me. Even if I learn all the intricacies of the Illusion affinity, I can’t use a single illusion mage art. After all, I don’t have affinity with it. But this Energyst path opens the path of study on all fields for its user.
"If you know illusion well, plunder an illussion type skill and gain illusion affinity. Then, you can use your own understanding and turn them into powerful skills."
Ryan became excited. "Then isn’t this path really good?"
"Well, I don’t think it really suits you, Ry."
"Why?"
"Look at the bit saying that the class will turn all plundered skills into raw energy. That means, even if you plundered incredibly unique skills, they will end up becoming raw energy for you. You will lose that skill itself."
He frowned.
She continued. "Mage Art is way harder to perform. It takes time, needs you to cast it—and so on and so forth. But unlike those, your skills function like the abilities of fiends; that is much better. If you choose the Energyst class, you will lose that advantage."
Ryan rubbed his head. "I am being reminded of my high school. This shit is so complex when you actually get to it..."
"Of course, all extraordinary paths are hard. It is a subject of study."
"We don’t have to choose a class right now anyway."
Ryan closed his class selection panel for now. He planned to accumulate more class choices before he actually chose. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
Surely, the first few classes would never be able to compare to the super hidden classes that required more abilities to unlock.
"Now what?"
"Next, you will learn how to use your skills in real-life situations. As of now, you already have a bunch of skills—but they are just names on a list if you can’t use them well."
Ryan grinned. "Are we gonna spar?"
"Yes."
He got ready, entering a karate stance.
She looked at him weirdly. "For now, you don’t even truly understand your skills. But that is alright. Try and familiarise yourself with all the abilities one by one."
"Okay!"
"What are your core skills for combat?"
"Apex Predator, Speed Burst, and well, my passive skills."
Seraphina gave him a smack over the head. "Stupid. All skills are your core skills. Do not over rely on one skill, be fluid. Your other skills like Luck Sucker and so on are all very useful if used well."
"Okay?"
"Don’t okay me."
She went up to the weapon’s rack and took out a wooden sword. Then, she tightened her own martial robes before looking at Ryan. "Get yourself a martial robe tomorrow, don’t be so unprofessional."
Ryan was in a white t shirt and baggy trousers.
That was not ideal for training.
Sera walked to stand before him, wooden sword gripped in her hands. "Sparring without a goal is useless, for now, what I want you to learn is using your different skills at opportune moments."
Ryan eagerly looked at her. "How?"
"You will see."
A powerful smack across the face with the wooden sword.
Ryan felt blood rush to his face.
But before he could register the pain, another smack headed right for his shoulders.
He moved back barely to escape it.
"Wait Sera this is too much for the start!"
"Don’t overcomplicate it, it’s a simple battle. You won’t die, try and use your brain."
She prepared the sword for another strike.
He immediately used Speed Burst to move faster.
Her sword was faster.
Smack!
He felt it strike him right on his shoulder.
It hurt like a bitch.
"Wait sis, it hurts—I don’t know how to fight!" he shouted. "Teach me first!"
This was his first time in a real fight.
"Don’t overcomplicate it," Sera said with a smile, not immediately continuing to attack. "A fight is simple but people overcomplicate it in their minds with complicated abilities and strategies. That makes them inefficient."
He clutched his shoulder. "What should I do?"
"Attack, Defense, Movement, and Strategy. That is the essence of battle. When you have a chance, you attack. When I attack, you defend. That’s it. Help yourself achieve those two things with movement. And use all the other three at effective moments. That’s it, simple as that."
"..."
Ryan took a deep breath. "Be gentle."
"No." She attacked again.
He didn’t immediately use Speed Burst and instead, waited till the wooden sword closed in on his face. Just before it hit him, he used his skill.
Immediately, his instincts became much faster and he could see the wooden sword in seeming slow motion. He moved right in time to dodge.
"Good, now that I missed, it is an opportunity for you to attack."
He went for a punch but she gripped his fist with her hand.
Effortless grace!
But, the moment they came into contact, Ryan understood what she wanted to teach him.
