Chapter 127: Mother and Daughter United

Water erupted from the ground beneath Seven’s feet as Lyra tapped into underground streams she had sensed during their battle. The decay master stumbled as the earth turned to mud, her perfect balance finally compromised. But before she could recover, Elysia struck from above.

The queen of Moonlight had used the distraction to position herself directly overhead, compressed air forming solid platforms that allowed her to approach unseen. Her descent was swift and silent, wind-formed spears aimed directly at Seven’s heart.

Seven sensed the attack at the last moment, throwing herself sideways as the air weapons punched deep holes in the ground where she had been standing. But the evasion left her vulnerable to Lyra’s follow-up assault.

Mother and daughter moved with perfect synchronization, their powers complementing each other in ways that seemed almost supernatural. Elysia’s wind currents guided Lyra’s water attacks with pinpoint accuracy, while Lyra’s moisture control enhanced the cutting power of her mother’s air blades.

"Impossible," Seven breathed, finding herself truly pressed for the first time. Every direction she turned presented new threats, forcing her into an increasingly desperate defensive stance.

Elysia’s voice carried across the battlefield with cold authority. "You made a mistake when you threatened my family."

A pressurized water blast from Lyra forced Seven to leap backward, directly into the path of Elysia’s wind funnel. The competing forces caught the decay master between them, air and water crushing her from opposite directions with tremendous force.

Seven’s scream echoed off the ruined walls as her ribs cracked audibly. Black blood sprayed from her mouth, but she managed to press both palms against the ground, sending decay racing outward in all directions.

The water around her began to steam and evaporate where it touched the corruption, but Lyra simply drew more moisture from the air to replace what was lost. Her power seemed limitless, fed by fury and desperation in equal measure.

"Why won’t you just die?" Seven snarled, lunging toward Lyra with her hands wreathed in concentrated decay energy.

But Elysia intercepted the attack, using compressed air to deflect Seven’s trajectory while simultaneously launching her own assault. Wind-formed hammers struck Seven’s shoulders and spine with bone-crushing force, driving her to her knees in the mud and debris.

Lyra seized the opening, water forming into solid chains that wrapped around Seven’s arms and legs. The decay master tried to corrupt the bindings, but once again her power seemed to have no effect on Lyra’s water.

"How?" Seven demanded, struggling against the aqueous restraints. "My power works on everything! Nothing is immune to decay!"

"Your power works on death," Elysia said, understanding dawning in her voice. "But Lyra’s water isn’t just water anymore. It’s life itself—pure, uncorrupted life."

Seven’s eyes widened with horrified comprehension. "The awakening," she whispered. "She’s not just an elemental. She’s something older."

Lyra’s expression was grim as she tightened the water bonds, Seven’s struggles becoming increasingly frantic. "I don’t care what I am. You hurt my family, and now you’re going to pay for it."

The water chains began to constrict, cutting into Seven’s flesh despite her enhanced durability. Black blood ran freely as the bonds tightened, but Seven’s healing factor worked to repair the damage as quickly as it was inflicted.

"This isn’t working," Elysia observed, noting how Seven’s wounds continued to close despite the sustained damage. "Her corruption makes her too resilient."

"Then we end this quickly," Lyra replied, her white eyes blazing with determination.

She began drawing water from every available source—underground streams, moisture in the air, even the blood of fallen warriors scattered across the battlefield. The liquid gathered around her in a massive sphere, its surface reflecting the moonlight like a dark mirror.

Seven’s struggles intensified as she realized what was happening. "Wait," she gasped, genuine fear creeping into her voice. "You don’t understand what you’re doing. The corruption—if you destroy me like this, it will spread to everything nearby!"

"She’s lying," Elysia said, but her voice held a note of uncertainty. freёweɓnovel.com

"Am I?" Seven’s laughter was desperate now. "When I die, all the decay energy in my body has to go somewhere. Everyone within a hundred yards will be consumed by corruption!"

Lyra hesitated, the massive water sphere wavering as doubt crept into her mind. Around them, surviving warriors from both armies were locked in their own desperate battles, unaware of the potential catastrophe brewing.

"Don’t listen to her," Elysia urged, but she too seemed uncertain.

Seven pressed her advantage, her voice taking on a pleading quality. "I can tell you where Eren is. I can help you save him. Just let me go, and I swear I’ll tell you everything!"

But Elysia had heard enough lies. Her expression hardened as she raised her hand, wind gathering around her fingers. "We’ll find Eren ourselves."

Her wind blade sliced cleanly through Seven’s neck.

Seven’s head tumbled to the ground, rolling to a stop against a pile of rubble while her body collapsed. Black blood pooled beneath the corpse, but there was no explosion of corruption, no spreading decay to threaten the nearby warriors.

"She was lying," Elysia said simply, her voice heavy with exhaustion.

But as they watched, Seven’s severed head began to speak, her lips moving despite being separated from her body. Her voice was weak but audible, carrying a strange sense of peace.

"Thank you," she whispered, black eyes focusing on something beyond the physical world. "The pain... it’s finally stopping."

Lyra knelt beside the head, her earlier fury replaced by something approaching pity. "What’s your real name?" she asked quietly.

Seven’s lips curved into a genuine smile for the first time, free of the cruelty and madness that had defined her. "Sarah," she breathed. "My name was Sarah, and I had a mother who loved me before your wars took her away."

The corruption began to fade from her features, revealing natural brown eyes underneath and skin that warmed from its deathly pallor.

Elysia felt a stab of guilt, but Seven—Sarah—shook her head weakly. "Not your fault," she whispered. "Never was. She made me forget that. Made me blame everyone except the one who was really responsible."

Her breathing grew shallower as the last vestiges of corruption left her system. "Eren," she said urgently, fixing her gaze on Elysia. "Top floor of the citadel. Kiran’s chambers. He’s still alive, but what they’re doing to him..." Her voice broke with genuine anguish. "I’m sorry. I’m so sorry for what I became."

The light began to fade from her eyes as death finally claimed her, but her expression remained peaceful.

"Mom," she whispered with her final breath, "I’m coming home soon. At least my mind can rest."
