Reincarnated With the World Domination System-Chapter 21: Seized the victory!
Chapter 21 - Seized the victory!
It seemed that the tuxedo monster's link with the eight mosquitoes was like a human limit break, turning him from an untouchable foe into a creature who struggled against numbers.
Before, the swordsman could not wound him at all, yet now his slashes caused deep cuts in the humanoid mosquito's flesh with each successful hit.
That did not mean it was easy to land a blow now.
"DIE! DIE! DIE!" the humanoid mosquito screamed while swinging his two needles like a berserker.
His wings buzzed wildly as he kept pressuring the swordsman, who could not help but step back with every exchange.
That movement, however, was deliberate, because once the monster crossed a certain line, a gunshot rang out.
A bullet ripped through the air and struck the creature's side, bursting blood open.
An arrow whistled behind it, flying into the same wound and burrowing deeper into the monster's flesh.
The monster paused and gazed at his injury, his face contorting.
A woman with a gun exclaimed, "Nice shot, Adrian! If that monster had a proper liver, he would be dying slowly right now!"
The archer nodded. "He has something like a basic liver that only filters blood, which is all he needs for nourishment. We have to drill farther to reach it!"
The swordsman shouted at them, "Stop talking! Couldn't you have aimed for his head and ended this?"
"Look who's talking," replied the archer and the gunwoman. "We would have had a headshot if you hadn't let him fly up a bit!"
"So it's my fault? Sorry!" the swordsman said.
"Don't apologize," one of them muttered. "You're doing most of the work here."
While those three eased up after making progress, the other three soldiers slipped past the swordsman and encircled the humanoid monster.
Two daggers flashed in the monster's large insect eyes, stabbing for his head but missing by a hair.
Even so, the other two fighters observed that opening.
A soldier with heavy gauntlets rushed exactly where the monster would lurch next and delivered his hardest punch, blasting the monster off his feet and hurling him at a nearby tree with a thunderous crash.
"Why'd you knock him so far?" asked one of the dagger wielders.
"Jayme said he was vulnerable, so I aimed to pop his head up," the gauntlet user replied in a low curse.
The last soldier, armed with a spear, ignored them and ran toward the monster to finish him off.
Before he arrived, however, the tuxedo monster erupted with power comparable to their own limit break, freezing everyone in place.
He drove his needles into the ground and used them to propel himself upward, then glared at the entire group.
"You have studied me well, especially you, swordsman," he growled. "But I won't give you any more chances!"
He tore himself from the spot, causing the tree behind him to crack and topple onto the canopy.
The humanoid monster had entered his final transformation, which made all the soldiers grimace.
[Epic transformation!]
[It is weaker compared to Lord Rael's and yours, though.]
[Aye!]
Rael watched the battle enter its final stage as the monster zipped among the soldiers, preventing them from halting him for even a moment.
Their attacks kept missing while he slashed their suits with his needles.
Using his Maker's POV, Rael saw the tuxedo creature shift his tactics constantly, never repeating the same move twice.
Stay focused, Shiran. We have to merge our instincts and find the perfect opening to finish that monster.
Shiran silently concentrated and melded his senses with Rael's.
In that instant, only Dominica noticed a faint system message in the corner of Rael's vision.
[Your compatibility with Shiran has increased to 40 percent.]
Had Dominica been in her avatar form, she might have smiled, even if awkwardly.
Meanwhile, Rael locked his gaze on the monster's every move, keeping track of him despite his blinding speed.
He sank into a trance where time seemed to slow.
A loud heartbeat thumped in his ears, not his own, but the monster's.
He saw the creature's heart clearly, observed how it pumped blood, and realized it was undefended.
Without thinking, Rael shifted into lion form and sped toward the humanoid monster.
His timing was ideal, appearing right as the swordsman pinned the enemy in a deadlock.
Rael thrust his palm onto the monster's back, his eyes fixed on the heart, and his hand pulsing with purple lightning that formed The Gauntlet Of The Maker.
He sensed the iron in the creature's blood and seized it, transforming each droplet around the monster's heart into razor-sharp needles that converged, piercing his heart from all angles.
"Gkh!" the monster gasped as dark blood gushed from his mouth in a torrent.
The light vanished from his eyes, and his body collapsed like a broken puppet.
It was over.
Rael and the swordsman locked eyes.
What now?
