"Found you?" Wei Wei wondered, his mind filled with questions.

Originally, this was just routine, but the girl’s sudden attention threw off his rhythm.

"You..." The girl’s lips trembled, her expression becoming clearer and more terrified.

She had been absorbed in "formulas," her eyes filled with strange symbols and unknown puzzles, but now she saw Wei Wei clearly, and his image began to merge with the symbols in her mind.

The truth of the world flooded her brain, accompanied by overwhelming fear and the chaos around her.

She turned to see the man with blood‑soaked thighs:

"Father..." she screamed in terror.

She tried to stretch out her hand but couldn’t move due to her weakness.

"Don’t move," Wei Wei said, gun raised: "Little sister, you should tell me why you’re looking for me."

"I... I didn’t..." The girl trembled, frightened by the gun, and instinctively denied it: "I wasn’t looking for you; I was just solving a problem..."

"..."

"Are you solving it with your life?" Wei Wei asked, seeing the blood flowing from her nose.

He didn’t doubt her words.

Many people under demonic influence didn’t know what they were doing.

It was the Foundation’s investigators who could understand their logic better.

This girl was just a tool, using a demonic directive to search through the memories of the entire city.

But the one truly waiting for the answer wasn’t her.

Her purpose was to find an answer to the problem in front of her, but she didn’t know the answer was herself.

So, she hesitated, not daring to write her answer on the paper.

Not because of Wei Wei’s gun, but because of the sudden terror from realizing the truth behind the "formula."

Wei Wei looked at the pencil in her hand and the paper waiting for an answer.

He didn’t rush to pull the trigger.

Logically, this was the time to end it.

But for the first time, Wei Wei’s hand holding the gun felt uncertain.

The girl was deeply affected by the demon, but he didn’t feel like shooting her.

After a long moment, his gun turned towards the man groaning beside her.

Looking seriously at the man in pain, Wei Wei said softly:

"Do you know?"

"Your daughter has been influenced by a demon."

"..."

"Bastard, nonsense..." The man shouted, his voice strained: "Where did you come from? Why are you harming my daughter..."

"She was just studying; how could she be involved with demons?"

"You’re talking nonsense; I’ll report you to the police..."

"..."

"Twisted desires always invite demonic descent."

Wei Wei didn’t explain further, just said softly: "She wasn’t supposed to attract demonic attention."

"But who let her have a father like you?"

"..."

The man, somewhat sobered by Wei Wei’s words and the heavy scent of blood, stopped cursing and began to defend himself:

"You... you’re just spouting nonsense here..."

"I didn’t do anything... I just wanted my daughter to study well, not to suffer like me..."

"..."

"Dad..." Just as Wei Wei frowned, the girl on the bed turned her head.

She didn’t use her last moments to write the answer on the paper but looked at the man beside her.

As if to say something important:

"Being with Dad, I’m not unhappy."

"..."

The next moment, her eyes filled with blood.

Wei Wei heard the sound of her blood vessels and thoughts snapping like tightened springs.

Both people in the room turned to look at the girl.

Wei Wei saw her head swelling larger and larger, like a balloon reaching its limit.

On her distorted face, she looked at her father with confusion and perhaps a hint of guilt for not meeting his expectations.

Then, her expression froze, and her head burst open.

Endless spiritual power scattered throughout the room, knocking over a vase on the bedside table.

The flowers inside instantly wilted.

The father saw his daughter’s eyes glaze over, her nose bleeding profusely, staining her white hospital gown.

The light in her eyes, that of an intelligent person, was fading fast.

She fell straight back, finally releasing the "exam paper" she had been clutching.

The answer never made it onto the paper...

"Tongtong..." The father wailed, his hands reaching out helplessly.

His anger quickly shifted to Wei Wei beside the bed.

Ignoring his injured leg, he charged at Wei Wei.

"You... You scared my daughter to death..."

"..."

Wei Wei’s gun was aimed at him, but he didn’t pull the trigger even as the man approached.

This man wasn’t an infected person.

Wei Wei had promised the instructor not to kill anyone uninfected.

Although the infected girl had collapsed due to her own overload, the crisis was over.

But Wei Wei’s heart was still filled with an indescribable gloom.

Looking at the girl on the bed with her eyes unfocused, Wei Wei couldn’t help but smile.

His smile was very gentle, and his eyes narrowed.

He had forgotten when it started, but the more he suppressed his feelings, the more he unconsciously smiled.

Perhaps it was because there was so much misfortune in the world that he wanted to bring some brightness to it.

"I’ll kill you, I’ll bite you to death..."

As Wei Wei smiled, the father crawled to his side, biting down on his thigh.

The pain made Wei Wei snap back to reality; he looked down at the father.

He put away the black handgun and pulled out a silver long gun, elegant like a lady’s.

He stood the silver gun upright in the room filled with chaotic spiritual power, and his eyes suddenly filled with blood.

The spiritual powers that had escaped the girl’s control, or the information flow, were dispersing randomly.

But the appearance of the silver gun seemed to give them a destination, slowly flowing towards it.

This process was slow and didn’t accumulate quickly, which was why Wei Wei previously disliked using it.

But this time, it felt appropriate.

He let the father bite and punch him, unmoving, patiently waiting for the silver gun to absorb enough energy.

Then, he slowly moved it down, pointing it at the father’s forehead.

The father, still in a frenzy, stopped suddenly, his terrified eyes fixed on the silver gun:

"Kill... Kill me, I have nothing to look forward to anyway..."

"Bang!"

Wei Wei didn’t wait for him to finish speaking before pulling the trigger.

As the muzzle flash appeared, the father let out a wail and fell to the ground, clutching his head and shivering.

He thought he wasn’t afraid of death, but the sound of the trigger made him lose his nerve.

However, he soon realized he wasn’t dead, and there was no pain from a bullet tearing through his flesh.

"It’s just a fraction of what she endured," Wei Wei said calmly beside him: "But try to feel it for now!"

The father didn’t understand the meaning of this.

He touched his head, finding no wounds.

Just as he was filled with wonder, he felt an endless flow of information rushing into his brain.

It was as if every blood vessel was about to burst, every brain cell filled with invisible pressure.

He felt thoughts crawling over his brain like ants, making his leg wound insignificant.

He opened his mouth to breathe but felt like he couldn’t take in any fresh air.

He looked at the girl on the bed with a face covered in blood, his heart filled with unutterable pain, and tears streamed down his face.

...

Wei Wei ignored the father beside the bed and leaned closer to the girl’s lifeless face.

He gently pushed up the corners of her mouth with two fingers.

Softly praising her:

"Good, rest well. You were very strong; even demons couldn’t defeat you..."

Then, he picked up the paper with the demonic directive beside her.

"I’ll turn in your homework for you..."

He spoke gently, as if the girl were still alive.

Before leaving, his gaze fell on the girl’s bedside, where he noticed a small, tattered pumpkin lantern in an inconspicuous spot.

His smile became even gentler; he picked it up and walked out, holding the lantern.

The bite wound on his thigh was slowly healing, but his eyes grew even more bloodshot.
