Su Ming pondered for a few seconds before stepping forward to lift a rusty bolt weighing over twenty pounds.
“My goodness, Young Master!
What are you doing?”
The employees sorting and transporting trash were all dumbfounded, anxiously stepping forward to inquire.
Some worried that Su Ming hadn’t lifted properly and would crush his own foot, so they quickly prepared to catch it.
“I’m working.”
Su Ming explained calmly.
“That won’t do, how can you do such work?”
“Right, what if you hurt yourself?”
“Exactly.”
…
The employees at the site were all extremely panicked.
The workers around who were busy also stopped one after another, coming over to persuade him.
Su Ming’s head began to ache from hearing them.
Not long after, Hu Jia also rushed over in a panic.
Seeing Su Ming holding the bolt, he was nearly scared out of his wits.
“Mother of heaven, Young Master!
Why have you started lifting things!”
“Don’t worry about it.”
Su Ming replied reluctantly.
“My little ancestor, this isn’t right!
What the heck are you guys doing, letting the Young Master start working?”
Hu Jia was close to crying.
The employees on-site were like mute people who had tasted the bitterness of coptis, unable to voice their difficulties.
On the other side, Su Yuan, accompanied by a middle-aged man in a suit, came down from the second floor, followed closely by Zheng San and others.
Su Yuan said with a smile on his face,
“Director Chen, rest assured, the quality of our goods is excellent, we absolutely do not mix in anything else…”
“President Su, our company has heard about your good reputation, or else we wouldn’t have come all this way.”
Director Chen also replied very courteously.
Su Yuan was just about to discuss further with Director Chen when he suddenly heard a noisy commotion coming from the sorting area.
The smile on his face immediately stiffened.
Here he was receiving a client, and behind him, it was all chaotic; what kind of impression was this?
Thus, Su Yuan coughed apologetically and said,
“Director Chen, I am very sorry.
I need to deal with a little issue at the company, I will be back soon.”
“No problem, go ahead with your work.”
Director Chen replied with a smile.
“Zhang Lan, please show Director Chen around our company.”
“Okay!”
Right then, a woman with flowing black hair, a beauty mark by her mouth, dressed in professional attire promptly responded.
After Secretary Zhang Lan had taken Director Chen away, Su Yuan immediately turned, annoyed, to Zheng San and said,
“What’s going on over there?
Why’s it so noisy?”
“I have no idea.”
Zheng San’s face also darkened as he inwardly cursed the supervisor of the sorting area, thinking this was outright troublemaking.
“Let’s go see!”
Su Yuan marched toward the back door, fuming with anger.
“Yes.”
Zheng San quickly followed.
Soon, Su Yuan and Zheng San arrived at the sorting area, where they immediately saw Su Ming moving things.
Su Yuan, like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, rushed at Su Ming frantically.
“Son, what are you doing?”
“Helping out with work.”
Su Ming replied helplessly to Su Yuan; he just wanted to lift things and do some physical labor, hoping to get more effective exercise and also to avoid boredom.
“No!
Son, please go to the office and enjoy the air conditioning!
Read some reports, or if you really must, play some games.”
Su Yuan said lovingly.
“No, father, please step aside and don’t stop me!”
Su Ming’s patience had reached its limit, so he said very seriously.
Su Yuan saw that Su Ming was getting a bit angry and didn’t dare to forcefully prevent him, so he could only step aside.
Su Ming carried the bolts and walked toward the small human-powered transport cart, and started working in earnest.
Su Yuan watched his working son, his mind in turmoil.
He had a very bad feeling that his son had suddenly come to the junkyard with him, and he began working oddly, which was almost always due to some kind of upset.
At this time, Hu Jia asked anxiously.
“Boss, what do we do now?”
Su Yuan was also irritated as he spoke to Hu Jia and the others.
“What else can we do, just watch him closely for me.
If anything happens to my son, I’ll hold you accountable!”
“Yes, yes….”
Hu Jia wiped the sweat from his forehead and hurriedly responded.
“And go back to work, what are you doing standing around here?”
Su Yuan shouted at the employees who were at a loss next to him.
The workers on-site all quickly got back to work, afraid of getting on his wrong side.
“Boss, Manager Chen is still waiting….”
Zheng San said cautiously.
“Ah!”
Su Yuan sighed, turned, and left helplessly.
…
At noon.
Su Ming carried things until he was drenched in sweat, his clothes soaked through.
Supervisor Hu Jia followed by his side, holding a chilled bottle of mineral water and soda, ready to offer.
When Su Ming took a break, Hu Jia immediately asked solicitously.
“Young Master, would you like some water?”
Su Ming didn’t refuse, casually grabbing the mineral water and gulping it down.
After all, he was here to train, not to torture himself.
At this time, the sound of a bell rang across the junkyard, and all the workers stopped.
Su Ming turned to ask Hu Jia.
“What’s that bell for?”
“It’s lunchtime, time for a break and meal.”
Hu Jia hurriedly explained with a smile.
“Where do they eat?”
“There’s a dining hall to the right of the main building that can accommodate ten thousand people.
Of course, you don’t need to eat there, Young Master.
You could go back to your office and enjoy the air conditioning.
I’ll have someone bring food over to you.”
“No thanks, I’ll go to the dining hall to eat.
It’s livelier eating together with everyone.”
Su Ming declined Hu Jia’s suggestion and without waiting for a response, joined the crowd heading toward the dining hall.
Hu Jia, with a bitter face, quickly followed.
Before long, Su Ming arrived at the dining hall’s first floor, which was incredibly busy.
The front portion was where the food was served, and the rest was filled with simple, long tables and benches that were very close together.
Once you sat down, your back would be touching the person behind you.
Right now, nearly every table and bench was occupied, a sea of heads as far as the eye could see.
“Young Master, this way!”
Hu Jia led Su Ming toward an empty table.
These tables were normally where Hu Jia and other managers sat, and the other employees would consciously avoid them.
After Su Ming took his seat, a man in a white chef’s outfit, portly in stature, approached with steaming dishes.
He placed the meal in front of Su Ming, and said obsequiously.
“Young Master, please try our cooking.
If it’s not to your liking, let us know any time.”
“Okay.”
Su Ming glanced at the food before him, a plate of green vegetables, braised pork, mashed potatoes…
“Enjoy your meal.”
The fat chef left, all smiles.
Su Ming picked up his chopsticks to start eating, when several employees carrying their work meals passed by through the nearby aisle.
He glanced at their trays which only had two items.
A dollop of shit-yellow sludge that looked like paste made from synthetic stuff, and a bowl of yellow broth with a smattering of seasoning.
Su Ming then put down his chopsticks, stood up, and looked around the dining hall.
He noticed everyone was eating the same thing.
