Shrouded Seascape-Chapter 1097. Variable
Chapter 1097. Variable
"Speed up! Hurry up and speed up!!" Anna's employer shouted so loudly that his voice cracked. He stared in terror at the approaching warship. He had no idea what exactly had happened on that ship, but he had no intention of facing what appeared to be undead monsters on its deck.
In stark contrast, Gao Zhiming was delighted to see the incoming warship. He could finally attempt to save his sister. He turned around and was about to say something to the others when he saw Jackal and the others huddled together.
"There's something problematic on that ship, and it even has Anna under its control. We have no idea how that happened, but the fact that they easily took control of Anna means that they're difficult to deal with.
"I suggest we retreat. I can take you all with me out here. I can use my ability to fly us all horizontally. I expect we'd reach the shore in just one day at the fastest."
Gao Zhiming's heart sank upon hearing Roy's suggestion.
They weren't talking about how to save his sister. Instead, they were talking about how to escape.
"What about Sis?" Gao Zhiming asked.
Roy turned to look at Gao Zhiming. His face was devoid of any expression as he blandly remarked, "She can stay there for now. I don't think she's going to die so easily."
Even though Anna was in danger, Roy's tone of voice remained calm as if it had nothing to do with him.
"You want to betray the High Priestess?" Jackal asked, his voice sounding cold as he cast a gaze full of murderous intent at Roy.
Roy instinctively gripped his weapon and shielded his wife and child behind him while vigilantly eyeing Jackal.
"We're all criminals; what do you mean 'betray'? I simply gave the most rational suggestion. Of course, if you have a way to save Anna, I can help you. But look at those things and tell me—do you have a way to save her?" Roy asked.
Everyone turned to look at the side and saw the warship getting closer and closer by the second. Anna was on the warship's deck. She was laughing jubilantly, and so was everyone else around her.
Their smiling faces were reminiscent of sunflowers yearning for the sun.
The cruise ship was truly built for luxury, as its speed couldn't compare to the destroyer. A collision was imminent, and it was most likely as close as thirty seconds.
Everyone could already foresee what would happen afterward.
Everyone began panicking. Those preparing for a fight to the death and those intending to lower the lifeboats were moving about haphazardly.
"We're running out of time. Let's go!" Roy exclaimed.
He was already standing at a ninety-degree angle on a wall while holding Li Lu up with him. He just had to jump down the wall, and the distorted effects of gravity on him would pull them away from the ship.
However, neither Jackal, Olivia, nor Gao Zhiming moved to grab his outstretched hand.
"You're no longer under her control, so what are you still worried about? All of you are going to die in vain at this rate!" Roy urged.
Swoosh!
Poker cards with words written on them flew out of the clown's top hat. "Wait a minute. I'm not human. Let me go and try to save her first. Their ability might not work on me."
The clown jumped and bounced on the ground like a rabbit. He flew over to the approaching warship, but as soon as his feet made contact with the deck, he froze and began making the same movements as Anna and the others.
Everyone's expressions became even more unsightly at the sight. They hadn't expected that the other party could seize control of a fellow Anomaly.
The other party's strength was still unknown to them, but they had already lost two of their strongest colleagues to them. It seemed like Roy was correct; they ought to retreat for now.
Gao Zhiming gnashed his teeth. He took out his pistol and fired at the distant warship.
The crowd on the warship's deck stood there like scarecrows, seemingly waiting for Gao Zhiming's bullets.
The space around Anna soon became more spacious, but Gao Zhiming's attacks were ineffective. The whizzing of bullets did little to rouse Anna; she was still standing on deck, smiling jubilantly.
The bizarre sight convinced Roy that he couldn't wait any longer. He turned around to retreat with Tobba and Li Lu. Just as he was about to raise his foot and jump off the "cliff" before him, Tobba patted him on the shoulder.
"Dude, don't run away. Without Anna and the others, we'll be like sitting ducks once the Foundation[1] finds us."
Roy had long gotten used to his son's manner of speech, and regardless of Tobba's identity, he would still treat him as his son.
"I'm just going to retreat for now. Once it's safe, I'll come back to save them."
Tobba took out a glass marble and held it up to his eye to look at the sun in the sky. "Hey, we're all family here, aren't we? Who are you trying to fool here? Are you sure you're not trying to run away upon seeing that Anna is in trouble?

"She saved your life, and she saved us as well. We can't be ungrateful and leave her here."
"But what can we do even if we stay here?" Roy explained in a patient manner.
Tobba played with the glass marble in his hand and said in a childish, infant-like voice, "Just wait, okay? Maybe someone has a solution."
Boom!
As soon as Tobba's words fell, a deafening explosion reverberated. The two ships had finally collided, hurling everyone on deck away like cannon balls.
The glass marble in Tobba's hand was inadvertently flung toward the luxury cruise's deck. At the same time, the smiling Anna and the others jumped onto the cruise ship's deck.
"Don't shoot! That's my sister. She's still alive!" Gao Zhiming roared, sounding agitated.
However, no one listened to him. Those on deck raised their weapons and immediately fired a hail of bullets toward the approaching enemies.
Left with neither a choice nor time to consider, Gao Zhiming made a beeline for Anna, pouncing on her to bring her down to the floor.
Gunshots echoed like firecrackers as bullets whizzed past the air, flying toward Anna and Gao Zhiming. There were so many bullets that their deaths were virtually guaranteed.
Just then, one of the black-suited bodyguards slipped on a glass marble and fell to the ground. The glass marble was kicked into the air by the bodyguard, and it appeared amidst the flurry of bullets.
The glass marble was struck, and it shattered into a myriad fragments that happened to hit more bullets in midair, slightly altering their course.
The deflected bullets collided with the other bullets, and just like that, a chain reaction was set into motion. As a result, the bullets made holes in just about everything except for Anna and Gao Zhiming on the floor.
Just then, a small glass fragment happened to dig into Anna's hair. The sharp pain instantly awakened Anna, who had completely sealed her sea of consciousness to prevent the complete takeover of the personality plague.
Using the final vestiges of her strength, she made herself tremble at a high frequency. With Gao Zhiming in her arms, Anna phased through the deck, the water tank, the engine room, and finally, she plopped into the cold seawater.
Amidst the cold seawater, Anna's face reflected a jubilant, child-like joy, but her eyes remained placid; it was like her eyes and face were being controlled by two different entities.
