Chapter 47: Injustice

The woman had a lithe, athletic figure wrapped in dark combat leathers reinforced with faintly glowing enchantments. A slender sword was strapped to her back. Her red hair, braided in an almost messy but battle-practical way, caught the sunlight like a living flame. And her golden eyes locked onto Blood Wraith with an irritated look.

"You’re going to get both of us killed, idiot," she said flatly.

Blood Wraith cringed and rubbed the back of his head sheepishly.

"Ehehe, sorry, sis... I got excited..."

Sis?

Damon’s expression didn’t change, but internally, he was racking his brain. Golden Blade did not exactly have any sisters. Did he remember correctly? Well, technically, he knew Golden Blade only two years after the game launched. Until then, he had only heard of him, so even if he had a sister, it was all hush-hush.

It was weird that such a top-tier beauty did not even end up in the heavenly beauty list compiled by some good person.

Anyway, this duo was not exactly his concern, so he did not bother too much with it. "Let’s go. Let’s get done with this quickly and finish our deal." Damon started walking.

"1000 gold coins for 10 levels and 2000 gold coins for the next 10 levels. You are at level 5 right now, and this should guarantee your place in the top 5 level rank leaderboard. Of course, if you are bringing an extra person with you, then double all the rates."

Blood Wraith quickly hurried after him. "Of course, bro. Of course."

However, the sister did not seem to be all that happy with this arrangement. "Not so fast." She walked over to him, giving him a once-over. "So you are the famous blood god."

Damon didn’t break stride, but he allowed his gaze to slide lazily over to her, meeting her golden-eyed stare without flinching. "I guess my reputation travels faster than I do."

The woman’s mouth quirked up at one corner, a half-smirk. Not friendly. "I’ve heard stories," she said lightly. "But stories tend to leave out the important parts. Like whether you can be trusted."

Damon gave a soft chuckle, low and rich. "If you’re looking for trust, you’re in the wrong game. I’m here for business. Your brother pays, I deliver. Simple."

"My brother is stupid, but I am not. You’d better do the job quickly. Otherwise, I will cut your payment down to half. I do not have all day to waste on this stupid game."

Stupid game? Damon raised a brow.

Blood Wraith hurriedly explained. "Sorry, bro. What my sister means is that she actually runs a company, so she doesn’t have a lot of time to log into the game. She is such a workaholic, working all the time."

A company owner? So young?

That explained the confidence and the sharpness in her attitude. She wasn’t some casual player or starry-eyed newbie—she was someone used to commanding people and making things happen her way.

Damon gave a slight, almost lazy shrug, as if her threat barely warranted his attention. "I work fast," he said simply. "But quality has its price. If you want rushed work, you can find someone else."

It was bait. A little tug at her pride. Sure enough, the woman’s golden eyes narrowed slightly, but then she smirked again, a glint of approval flashing in her gaze.

"Good," she said. "I like people who can back up their big mouths."

Blood Wraith just laughed nervously. "Hehehe, you two are getting along already! That’s great!"

Damon nearly rolled his eyes. Getting along wasn’t the phrase he’d use. "Okay. That’s enough chatting. Did you not want to do this fast? Let’s walk."

The three of them started walking out of the teleportation portal area towards the city gates. On the way, so many heads turned towards them. The sister had her face covered with a hood, and Damon was pretty much ordinary-looking with newbie gear. So no one spared him a second glance.

The real spotlight was on Blood Wraith. Dressed in sparkling gear from top to bottom, combined with a handsome face and fit body, he was fully covered in a protagonist aura. Several women rushed to introduce themselves to him, some even flashing their assets.

"Hey handsome, where are you headed? Mind if I tag along? We can have some fun. What happens in the game stays in the game, right?" One woman winked.

Another woman dressed in a revealing battle robe that left little to the imagination pressed close with a sultry smile. "You look strong... but I bet you need a good support class to keep you up." She ran a finger across Blood Wraith’s chest piece as if it were her own personal buffet table.

Blood Wraith sputtered. "I-I’m flattered, but I’m with my party already, hehe..."

Damon’s face twitched. Rich, handsome, and a sweet tongue. This guy was an asshole! His single heart could barely take the injustice.

Damon narrowed his eyes, watching Blood Wraith laugh nervously and wave the women off like some innocent prince dragged into a brothel by mistake. The idiot wasn’t even trying to be flirtatious, and yet, he radiated that clueless, irresistible charm that had the world handing him luck on a silver platter.

You deserve what’s coming to you miserable bastard! Damon silently gnashed his teeth, watching the show.

’You know you can also do all of this if you talk to women in a friendlier manner and not look like a serial killer all the time, with your super serious face.’ Bloodreign chimed in.

Damon wondered why this woman had popped out after all this while and in the end decided not to ask. It was not as if she was going to explain anything. Instead, he used this chance to talk about the grand ritual quest.

Of course, after he mentally explained the whole thing, all he got was radio silence. The damned woman had once again gone back into hiding.

Damon’s mood further blackened. "Fuck it. I am going to start hunting."

Without any warning, he disappeared into the shadows. He had already chosen violence today and there was no point in holding back.
