SSS Awakening: Rebirth of the Strongest Vampire God-Chapter 86: Fighting with a new set of skills
Chapter 86: Fighting with a new set of skills
Damon did not bother with the long-range and took the fight right to the undead. The rewards were probably dependent on how many NPCs he could save, and if he was going to attempt this quest, then he might as well go for the max rewards.
Damon lunged into the horde like a man possessed. His feet pounded the earth as he crashed straight into the thickest cluster of undead, shadow daggers flashing like twin stars. The air exploded in a mess of ichor and twisted bone.
One slash to the throat. Spin. Backstep. Blink. Elbow to the jaw. Follow-up stab through the eye socket.
[Combo Chain Extended: x7]
[Aggro Redirection Successful: +15 Morale to Nearby NPCs]
He was a storm. Not a defender. Not a savior. Something darker. Something hungry.
"Wait. Why am I using shadow attacks?" Damon grinned as he started to switch to the skills he had robbed from the priest and the paladin players.
His body tingled as the mana that coursed through his body fueled the divine and holy skills. [Minor Heal], [Blessed Heal], [Touch of Light]... He started throwing all of the new skills in his repertoire.
He stabbed one undead through the chest with a shadow dagger, then immediately followed it with a glowing palm pressed to the creature’s rotted forehead. [Touch of Light] erupted outward in a flash of radiant energy, disintegrating it on the spot and searing two more that got too close.
[Divine Damage x2: Effective Bonus – Undead Type]
"Yup, even though I cannot bring out the full potential of the skill without any divine or light affinity, it’s still making the fight a lot faster." Damon quickly took out a bunch of items he had farmed from the siege and switched out his shadow affinity gear with the holy and divine items.
This further packed a punch in his attacks.
[Divine Shield]! Damon swung his sword in one hand and used a radiant shield in the other hand to hold back a particularly large undead.
Behind him, the outpost guards, barely level 30, watched wide-eyed as Damon tore through enemies twice his level like paper.
A few of them rallied, emboldened by the carnage. They pushed forward, joining the fight instead of cowering behind. More and more arrows and projectiles started raining down on the undead. Even though their damage power wasn’t much, the chip damage was quickly adding up.
More importantly, the NPC death counter in the corner of Damon’s interface remained blessedly still.
Good.
That meant the rewards were still in play.
He had no idea what tier this questline was, but if it was anything like the ones he remembered from his past life, the more outpost members he saved, the higher the bonus, and the more likely the next phase would unlock.
A rare skill, a hidden title, a unique trait... even a faction-specific quest chain. All of that was possible.
The battlefield pulsed with chaos and light, and at its center, Damon moved like a paradox given form, holy energy radiating from a vampire cloaked in blood and shadow.
His [Divine Shield] clashed with a skeletal warhammer, golden sparks flying as the shield held strong. He kicked off the stunned creature and launched a [Blessed Heal] at another undead closing in on him.
Yet another one threatened to stab him in the back, but Damon did not have to make a move to take care of it. A chunky fireball landed on the undead, blasting it into scorched fragments mid-lunge.
Lirae was helping him.
Damon smiled and continued his onslaught. With the help of the outpost squad, taking down these guys was simpler than he expected.
Each undead should be giving plenty of experience points, but since all the rewards were shared between the whole outpost, he was barely getting any. This was fine by him as he did not want to level up all that much right now before doing his body tempering ritual.
The fight continued, and soon the undead numbers had already been reduced by half. They were, however, dangerously getting close to the outpost. Damon unleashed an [Earthquake], slowing down their advance a little more.
Lirae’s eyes shone as she followed his cue and cast her earthen element spell. A forest of stone thorns erupted from the ground ahead of the horde, perfectly timed with Damon’s [Earthquake]. The combined effect disrupted the undead formation, sending several crashing into the sharpened rocks while others stumbled in the quaking earth.
Damon flicked his eyes toward her. An elf who was a dual mage. Not bad at all. Their eyes met, and Lirae nodded at him. That hollow disinterest from earlier was gone and now replaced by camaraderie.
Damon surged forward, capitalizing on the wave of momentum. With swift, divine aura-enhanced sword slashes, he brought down two more of the undead casually.
The undead never stood a chance.
Damon’s blades flashed through rotting torsos and shattered skulls. One moment, he was stabbing with divine precision using [Touch of Light]; the next, he was casting [Shadowmeld] mid-roll to evade a death knight’s cleaving strike. His hybrid style wasn’t just efficient, it was terrifying.
[Morale Surge Triggered – Nearby NPCs gain 20% Attack Speed]
Damon grinned. He ducked a flailing bone mace, countered with [Blessed Heal] on a nearby heavy hitter, then yanked the enemy before directly slamming it on the ground and sending bone fragments everywhere.
Arrows rained from the walls. One after another, powerful fireballs took down more and more of the undead. Soon, only a couple more of the undead were left.
Then came the roar.
A hulking undead lumbered through the broken tree line, stitches of blackened vine holding its many limbs together, its chest cavity glowing with cursed embers. Level 70, the tag read.
Mini-boss!
There was also an unmistakable shine at the center of the undead, which could only mean that the undead had a mana core with it. This fight was going to be a lot more difficult than the other ones.
