Chapter 90: Ding! Affection level +1

Damon slid the ring onto her finger. Lirae blinked rapidly, biting her lip, a smile struggling to break through her shock. "Then it’s done," she whispered.

Damon stood up, and he saw the woman look at him expectantly. He knew what he had to do now. He gulped and placed his hands on her shoulder, leaning forward to take her lips.

Lirae’s eyes widened, breath catching for a heartbeat, but she didn’t pull away. As Damon’s lips met hers, soft and deliberate, she let herself be entranced in the moment. She closed her eyes, melded into the kiss, and the blush across her cheeks deepened.

Meanwhile, Damon’s brain was in a fritz. Should he go for the tongue? Too soon? His fingers itched for a little bit of action, and his little general was alarmingly very erect. What was he supposed to do when a peerless beauty threw herself at him? He was not a fucking saint or enunch!

Thankfully, before any part of him could lose control, the kiss sort of ended in a natural way as the two of them pulled away.

Lirae’s eyes fluttered open first, still glossy from the moment, her breath slow and uneven. Damon stepped back, just a half step, enough to give her space. He could feel the heat still lingering on his lips, the softness of hers vivid in his memory.

"I suppose... we’re betrothed now," she smiled, her cheeks still flushed.

Damon opened his mouth to reply when a new notification chimed in.

[Ding! Affection level +1]

If he kissed her again, then the affection rate goes up again? What if they did the deed? Damon let out a sigh. It looked like his dick was still going the thinking. He really needed to calm down. He was about to say something when his heightened senses picked up movement nearby.

At the same time, Lirae looked a little panicked and spoke. "My beloved, you need to leave now. My father’s men would reach the outpost soon, and that is not safe for you. If he finds out what happened here today... I am afraid he would not take it well."

Damon nodded. "But what about you? I am not leaving you here alone."

Lirae shook her head. "Please forgive me, my beloved. I cannot come with you just yet. I have some unfinished business back in the King’s castle. I cannot come to you before I resolve it," She whispered, her fingers brushing against Damon’s.

"But why do you have to face it alone? I can help you. I can become stronger."

Lirae firmly shook her head. "This is something that I need to do by myself. Please trust me." She reached out and grabbed his wrist. "Take this." She handed him a small token etched with ancient elven script. The crest of her broken house gleamed faintly, half-sun, and half-flame.

[Ding! You have acquired: Sylvaris Token of Vow]

[Ding! Can be used to summon Lirae as a Companion (Limit: Once per day)]

[Ding! Grants a temporary faction disguise in the Elven Territories.]

"I don’t know what path you walk, Blood Drinker," Lirae said softly, "but now... part of me walks it too. Soon, we will be together for all eternity." She leaned forward to give another tight hug and then looked at Damon pleadingly. "Please, leave now."

"Then until we meet again, my betrothed." Their eyes met one final time before Damon activated [Shadowmeld] and [Shadowstep], vanishing into the deepening dusk just as armored riders burst through the tree line in the distance.

If the quest required him to get the hell out of there, then Damon did not take it lightly. He continued running even as the outpost and the scene of battle faded. Not until he reached the edge of a crumbling ruin far outside the patrol radius did he finally stop to catch his breath.

He leaned against a tree, token still clutched in one hand. He slumped down, with his hands on his head, as an idiotic grin crept up on his face. What the hell just happened?

"So..." Blood Reign whispered, breaking the silence, "You neither got sex nor got blood. You missed such a golden opportunity! You should’ve claimed her properly."

Damon rolled his eyes. He ignored the lecherous weapon spirit and placed the token in his spatial ring. He then took out a shining mana core and examined it. This was the mana core of the level 70 undead abomination.

Naturally, he did not waste the opportunity and had his shadow clone pick up the loot right after the abomination went down.

"This seems bigger for a level 70 guy." Damon examined it. The next second, another set of notifications popped up.

[Ding! You have successfully acquired a drop of elven blood.]

[Ding! You have successfully acquired a drop of divine blood.]

[Ding! You have successfully acquired a D-rank mana core.]

Damon whistled in excitement. It was no wonder the mana core looked too strong for the undead’s level. Someone had used a higher-grade mana core to forge the thing. They were probably not very talented at forging an undead. Otherwise, something a lot stronger would have popped out.

Well whatever. In the end, it was his gain. He was now ready to turn in his quest and finish the body-tempering ritual. Time to upgrade his physical body!

Damon quickly headed back to the nearby city to use the teleportation portals again, but he stopped as he suddenly remembered something. The city he was standing in right now, Kilaris City, was actually quite popular in his last life.

One of the more famous guilds, Phantom Heroes, originated from this city, and if he was not wrong, then they should have run into some sort of opportunity in this city that gave them the leverage to compete shoulder to shoulder with the super ten guilds.

Looking around, Damon couldn’t help but wonder what that opportunity could possibly be. Perhaps it was worth spending an hour or two in the city investigating and trying to jog his memory, instead of returning to Niera immediately.
