Chapter 385: Fei Jian’s visit

In the huge living room of the Lin mansion, several people sat together. The atmosphere was solemn, and the silence was deafening.

"So you mean to say, you came so early this morning to ask us for an explanation for what happened at a banquet we didn’t even participate in?" Old Master Lin’s face was cold as he asked Fei Jian, who was sitting across from him.

Fei Jian, the representative chosen to confront the Lin family, nodded with an equally solemn expression.

"You heard me right, Head Master Lin. If you ask the guests who attended the banquet last night, they will tell you what your granddaughter did to ruin our family’s celebration. Not only did she beat up my nephew, but she also kidnapped my son. If we weren’t taking your family’s face into consideration, we would have already involved the police and created a bigger mess out of this."

Old Master Lin closed his eyes, trying to digest the information Fei Jian had shared.

The granddaughter he was talking about must be Bei Sangyun. That rascal intruded on the Fei family’s banquet, beat up one of their young masters, and even kidnapped someone?

This all sounded unbelievable.

Old Master Lin opened his eyes again, maintaining a calm expression despite the tumultuous wave in his heart. "Butler Yang."

Butler Yang, who had just finished a phone call, approached Old Master Lin and whispered in his ear.

"I have just confirmed from our spy and witnesses that it was indeed Third Young Miss who disrupted the event. They say she dragged out the First Master’s second son, exposing his violent nature and bullying towards the youngest young master of the Fei family in front of everyone at the banquet. She showed up with four spies and humiliated the entire Fei family before leaving the place unscathed."

Old Master Lin’s brow jumped in surprise. He wasn’t sure if he was more shocked by Bei Sangyun’s audacity in committing such a brazen act under the Fei family’s roof while alone, or by the fact that she had four spies there, or that she was allowed to leave unharmed after what she had done.

If it had happened to him instead, he would never have allowed someone who openly humiliated them in front of the guests to leave peacefully.

’No wonder these people came so early in the morning to look for Lin Sangyun and detain her,’ he mused inwardly.

Old Master Lin felt a bit of pride discreetly swelling in his heart. Who would have thought a day would come when he would be proud of that rascal’s rude manners and fierce attitude?

The Lin family and the Fei family did not harbor any animosity towards each other. However, constant comparisons made by those around them inevitably led both families to silently assert their superiority over the other.

One of his descendants had managed to throw the entire Fei family into chaos. It seemed that the Fei family’s prestige had fallen so low that they resorted to underhanded tactics to summon his granddaughter.

Old Master Lin coughed to conceal the grin on his face.

"And what does the Fei family want? Do you expect me to hand over my granddaughter? What makes you think I would allow my granddaughter to be handed over to a family that seeks to harm her?"

"Headmaster, it is your granddaughter who harmed my family’s reputation and kidnapped my son. If you were in our position, do you think you would be patient enough to ask for the other party’s explanation? We are already giving you enough face by coming here, but it seems you don’t want to give us the same consideration in return."

"My granddaughter might have been too reckless and caused your entire family to lose face. But from what I heard, the root cause of this is your nephew, right? Anyway, you don’t have any proof that my granddaughter kidnapped your son. Who knows if your son followed my granddaughter willingly instead? After all, he was being bullied by his cousin. That might cause him to run away."

Old Master Lin had not yet heard all the details, as this was the first time he was learning about the events at the banquet.

However, he was already aware of the boy’s status within the Fei family. After discovering that his impudent granddaughter was involved with the youngest grandson of the Fei family, he had conducted some inquiries into the boy’s situation within the Fei family.

What he discovered was deeply disturbing. A boy with great potential had been sent to the countryside due to superstitions and had only been summoned back to the capital two years ago. Instead of being welcomed, he had endured violence and isolation from his cousins.

Despite being a member of the main branch of the Fei family, he did not receive the same privileges and treatment as his cousins. This disparity was why Old Master Lin opposed his granddaughter’s relationship with this boy.

Bei Sangyun’s status was already precarious due to her illegitimate reputation. If it became known that she was involved with the Fei family’s outcast, it would only invite ridicule from all levels of society.

While he held no personal grudge against the youngest grandson of the Fei family, he could not accept someone burdened with such a troubled background into his own family.

Old Master Lin glanced at Fei Jian. And this person was supposed to be that boy’s father.

As expected, Fei Jian’s expression darkened. "I acknowledge my shortcomings as a father and that I allowed things to spiral out of control. That’s why I’m here to find my son. Your daughter was involved in his disappearance. We need to question her so I can locate my son."

"Ha," Old Master Lin scoffed. "Are you truly here for your son, or is this just the Fei family’s pretext to attack us?"

"It was your granddaughter who started this. What more proof do you need? Or do you intend for the two families to come to blows?"

"I have no such intention. There’s no feud between our families. You coming here is more suspicious. If, as you claim, my granddaughter kidnapped your son, then why don’t you report it to the police? Don’t say it’s because of my face. You and I both know we are not close enough to consider each other’s faces."

Fei Jian turned silent. As the saying goes, ’even an old camel is stronger than a horse’. Old Master Lin wouldn’t just back down.

"Besides, even if I wanted to bring my granddaughter to you, I couldn’t. She isn’t here," Old Master Lin added.

"How could she not be here? This is her house. Are you hiding her?" Fei Jian did not believe him.

"Even if you search the house, you won’t find her. She isn’t here. You see, that girl is free-spirited. She isn’t someone I can control,"Old Master Lin said without a hint of shame.

Now, admitting such a shameful thing didn’t seem so bad, because the Fei family wouldn’t be able to retort.

The Fei family losing face in their own house because of his granddaughter was more embarrassing than anything.
