Star Odyssey-Chapter 3533: You Can Be
Chapter 3533: You Can Be
A cold wind blew, carrying Old Yu’s weary voice. "I am not sure what leverage you have over the High Seraph, but the most you can achieve is to restrain him from directly taking action. I genuinely hope that the Spirit Nidus and Tianyuan Megaverse will no longer go to war with each other. I want to see humanity dominate the omniverse. In the future, we will face the infinite unknown together, the megaverses beyond that first springboard. Humans should be united. Whether it's the High Seraph or you, both of you are navigating humanity's future."
Lu Yin suddenly smashed his wine bottle. The shards flew out, some of which scratched Old Yu's face.
"Enough."
Old Yu blankly stared at Lu Yin.
The younger man took a deep breath. Why had he gone to the Spirit Nidus? Was it just to mend his karma? If that were true, he would have made the journey alone.
Why had he allowed time to revert back thirty-seven years? It was entirely because the Spirit Nidus had been determined to exterminate the Tianyuan Megaverse. That was the underlying reason for everything that had happened.
If Lu Yin lacked his current strength and the Grandverse Manor lacked sufficient power, would Old Yu still have sought him out? Would the old man still be working towards resetting the Tianyuan Megaverse? For the people of the Spirit Nidus, each megaverse that was reset would give them another opportunity to reach the Immortal realm. Lu Yin did not believe that Old Yu wanted to lose out on such an opportunity.
The entire conversation was predicated on his fear of Lu Yin’s strength. These concessions were founded on Lu Yin’s power, rather than Old Yu’s true feelings.
This was the world of cultivators. This was human nature.
Lu Yin could not deny that there were many people who truly hoped to see a united humanity that could face all of these unknown dangers together, but neither the High Seraph nor Old Yu were among those individuals.
The old man had plotted against Lu Yin on multiple occasions, and each ploy had been more vicious than the last. The success or failure of those schemes had not impacted the Wisdom Domain, but how many people had died because of them? Old Yu was speaking words he had no right to say.
Lu Yin slowly sat back down. He stared at the fragments of his shattered wine bottle. He was exhausted. It was not physical exhaustion, but an emotional one.
At this moment, he longed to return to the Tianyuan Megaverse and see the people he thought of day and night. He wanted to be surrounded by his loved ones again. That was the life that he desired.
What was Immortality? It was false. Lu Yin did not pursue Immortality. Instead, he wanted a comfortable life where he could enjoy himself and live freely without employing schemes and deceit.
If he reincarnated, he genuinely hoped to never touch anything to do with cultivation.
His journey had been too exhausting.
The wind picked up, and it carried the scent of green grass.
Lu Yin walked through the ruined valley and arrived in a prairie. The lush greenery was refreshing, and the scenery gave him a sense of peace. This was what brought ordinary people happiness.
After staring for a long while, Lu Yin finally spoke again. "With Yi Nan gone, who will take his place as the next Seraph?"
Seeing that Lu Yin had calmed down, Old Yu slowly shook his head. "I have not yet decided. You have already defeated many who possess the necessary strength for the position. As for Old Salamander, we will never see eye to eye. As for some other old friends, I can’t even say if they are still alive or not..."
"Su Shidao," Lu Yin stated.
Old Yu caught off guard. "Su Shidao? I believe I remember that he swore to never again compete for the title of Seraph."
Lu Yin indifferently replied, "As long as no one challenges him, he can take the title of Seraph without competing for it."
Old Yu was rendered speechless. Is that a real argument?
Still, after considering the matter further, Lu Yin’s suggestion made sense. Su Shidao had indeed sworn to never again fight for the position of Seraph, but he had never stated that he would refuse the position itself. As long as no one challenged him, there would be no competition.
How many remained capable of competing for the title of Seraph? Lu Yin had already defeated most candidates, including a primary candidate like Yi Nan. Outsiders would have no knowledge of the enmity between the Phantom Reach and Lu Yin, and they would simply assume that Yi Nan had defeated Seraph Yi Shang, and in doing so, gained Lord Lu's interest. It would be thought that there was nothing more behind it than Lu Yin challenging another expert.
At least, this would be the narrative outsiders would believe.
Under these circumstances, no one would dare to challenge Su Shidao for the title of Seraph. They all feared that winning would draw Lord Lu’s attention upon them and invite trouble. Given the current situation in the megaverse, refusing a challenge would be seen as no different than surrender.
None who had publicly lost to Lu Yin had enjoyed a pleasant fate. While he had met with Su Shidao, no one knew if Su Shidao had been defeated, as no one had seen what had transpired between the two men.
To some extent, Lord Lu has already beaten the Spirit Nidus into submission.
Old Yu agreed to allow Su Shidao to become the next Seraph. "Su Shidao is quite stubborn. You'll need to convince him yourself."
Lu Yin took out his spirit cloudstone and called Su Shidao.
He could not connect.
Again.
His call was still not answered.
He might be busy, or maybe he’s fishing.
Lu Yin frowned. He waited for a day before trying to contact the old man again, but he was still unable to reach Su Shidao. On the third day, Lu Yin tried again. Day by day, he tried, only to fail to connect with the old man.
Lu Yin finally looked over at Old Yu.
The man pulled out his own spirit cloudstone and tried to contact Su Shidao.
The call was answered.
Lu Yin arched a brow. What does this mean?
Old Yu was caught off guard, and he glanced over at Lu Yin as Su Shidao's voice came from the spirit cloudstone, "Old friend, why have you suddenly thought to call me?"
Lu Yin stretched out his hand, and Old Yu handed the spirit cloudstone over.
Lu Yin’s voice was low. "I called."
There was a long moment of silence. "Hmmm? Isn’t that the Third Boss’s voice? What are you doing with that old freak? By the way, I just took a break from fishing and was thinking of calling you, and yet here we are, with that old freak already calling me, hahahaha."
Lu Yin shrugged. "That’s not important. Are you done?"
"No. The fish just came to tease me again. I need to go catch it. Is there something you need? If not, I'm busy right now." Su Shidao was trying to quickly end the conversation.
Lu Yin casually replied, "That’s fine, do what you need. I’ll head over to the Spirit Treasure Domain to see you in person."
"Cough cough. Uh, is there something you need?"
"It's a long story."
"Just make it short."
"You’re going to become a Seraph."
There was a moment of silence before Su Shidao responded, "Are you insane? You've already defeated Bao Qi and crushed so many other experts! You’ve made a mess of the entire Spirit Nidus, and now, no one other than the High Seraph himself can deal with you. You're just a public announcement away from becoming a Seraph yourself. Why do you want me to take the title?!"
Lu Yin replied, "I’m also going to be Seraph. We both are."
Su Shidao grew puzzled. "What are you talking about?"
"I'm in the Roaming South Realm," Lu Yin reported.
Su Shidao was taken aback for a moment. "Roaming South Realm? Sounds familiar... I remember thinking that there was something off about that place, but after so long, I forgot about it.
"What are you doing there?"
"It’s the Phantom Reach’s headquarters. I came after Yi Nan."
Su Shidao was startled. "Is the Phantom Reach’s headquarters in the Roaming South Realm? And you went after Yi Nan?"
Few people were aware that, when Lu Yin learned that Yi Nan had defeated Seraph Yi Shang, he had gone to the Roaming South Realm to find Yi Nan. Even Su Shidao had been ignorant of the matter.
There were only two things that were public knowledge at this moment. The first was that the Grandverse Manor’s Third Boss, who was a supreme expert from the Tianyuan Megaverse and went by the name of Lu Yin, had defeated Bao Qi and several others. He would soon become one of the Seven Seraphs. The second was that Yi Nan, the master of the Phantom Reach, had replaced Yi Shang as Seraph.
It was incredibly difficult to replace any of the Seven Seraphs due to the incredible strength of those individuals. Each one would retain their title for countless years before another could rise up and replace them.
The fact that two of the Seven Seraphs had been replaced so quickly was creating a huge stir in the Spirit Nidus.
Su Shidao had never expected to learn that Lu Yin had gone after Yi Nan, let alone capture the man. What did that mean? Was Lu Yin hoping to monopolize the positions of two Seraphs by himself?
Right, there are two Seraph titles available, which is why he’s offering one to me.
Su Shidao suddenly had a headache. "Tell me, why did you make trouble for the Phantom Reach? You probably did it because the Phantom Reach led you around to have me eliminate you. That's just their nature, and they weren’t targeting you specifically. I wouldn’t be surprised if they plotted against even the High Seraph himself."
Lu Yin’s voice grew cold. "It was much more than that. While I was fighting at the Umbral Deep, they paid Emperor Slayer to kill me."
"I see. In that case, Yi Nan deserves to die. He ran out of luck."
"There are now two Seraph positions open: one for me, and one for you."
"You sound like you’re sharing two pieces of candy, but the titles of the Seven Seraphs are not candy. That’s not how they are given out."
Lu Yin stared into outer space. "I can give them out like this."
Old Yu was staring at Lu Yin. Only someone like this Third Boss would dare to say something so arrogant. Not even the High Seraph could make such a claim, but that was because he was also from the Spirit Nidus.
Lu Yin was from the Tianyuan Megaverse. From the very beginning, he had always behaved as an enemy of the Spirit Nidus, and he had freely said and done whatever he wanted. The Spirit Nidus had been extremely tolerant of these things because of the current situation between the two megaverses, as well as the fact that it was highly likely that Lu Yin would eventually be attacked by the entire Spirit Nidus in the end. However, until that actually happened, it was highly unlikely that anyone would antagonize Lu Yin.
Even in their last moments, a madman would remain arrogant.
Lu Yin could be considered a madman, though he was a madman who had silenced the entire Spirit Nidus.
Why had Su Shidao refused Lu Yin’s calls? Because the old man was aware that Lu Yin could be regarded as a madman.
However, it had to be said that the madman was the true ruler of the Tianyuan Megaverse. He was someone who would be eternally revered by his megaverse.
In the Spirit Treasure Domain, Su Shidao was sitting beside his fish pond. He was still stunned by Lu Yin's arrogant claim. "Brat, there’s a price for saying certain things."
Lu Yin replied, "I’ve always needed to pay a price. Whether I speak or stay silent doesn't matter."
"True." Su Shidao rubbed his head. "But that has nothing to do with me. Don't come find me when you're looking for someone else. I won't become a Seraph."
"You should do it."
"I don't want to."
"You can."
"This is not acceptable."
"I'm telling you, you can do it. The Spirit Treasure Society needs a Seraph."
Su Shidao was speechless. "Truthfully, my Spirit Treasure Society doesn't need a Seraph. A Seraph might actually impede the Spirit Treasure Society’s steady progress."
Lu Yin was silent. The old man was not wrong.
If the Spirit Treasure Society had a Seraph among their numbers, it would mean adding their members to the competition for resources that the other domains participated in. That might actually hinder the Spirit Treasure Society rather than help it.
"Wait, don’t you see the High Seraph as your enemy? Aren’t you going to carve on the wall of the Apex Palace? That's unnecessary. Carving on the Apex Palace is going too far. Instead, you should take two Seraphs’ positions. No matter who wants to become a Seraph, you can deal with them. The Day of Offering is almost upon us, and the High Seraph needs to lead the Seven Seraphs in the rituals. If a Seraph is missing from the ritual, how humiliating will that be for him? He’ll lose all face," Su Shidao suggested.
Old Yu frowned. This suggestion was absolutely offensive.
The Day of Offering was extremely important to the entire Spirit Nidus. Even Seraphs who were fighting in the distant Consciousness Megaverse needed to return to participate in the rituals of that day.
While Yuan Qi was in the Tianyuan Megaverse, the Day of Offering had been held in the Lushan Domain. The location where Yuan Qi had become a Seraph had served as a replacement for his physical presence. This was an ancient tradition. However, if there were two Seraphs absent for the Day of Offering, there would be problems.
Lu Yin was somewhat moved.
Old Yu spoke up. "If a Seraph is missing on the Day of Offering, it won’t be too severe a blow for the High Seraph. At worst, it will be a bit humiliating, but it won’t accomplish anything substantial."
Lu Yin held the spirit cloudstone. "Senior Su, I want to see you become a Seraph."
"Why does it have to be me?" Su Shidao was getting upset.
"There’s no one else who can do it."
"What about Hu Wu and Tian Ya? They’ve always been very eager to take the title of Seraph."
"Individually, they aren’t strong enough. On top of that, I worry about Hu Wu's impulsiveness," Lu Yin replied.
