Chapter 78: An Honest-to-God Dragon

BOOOM!

The girl was thrown back like a ragdoll! She slammed through hundreds of trees, and bruises and cuts filled her body as her mana began to waver and die out! She crashed into a large foliage a far distance away and finally slammed to a stop, and the dragon rider let out a laugh in victory! He was sure that this time she wasn’t going to be getting up no matter what! That blast should’ve knocked her out for the next few days at least!

The dragon rider immediately instructed his dragon to go towards the girl, and the dragon immediately began to swoop downwards to try and reach her! freewebnoveℓ.com

But once he reached the area where the girl had fallen, he was shocked by the sight that greeted him! There was a large, stocky-looking ant standing just a few meters away from the girl’s form. It was looking up at the man with large beady eyes that promised death, and the man felt a shiver go down his spine when he saw the purple fire that was present in that gaze! But it wasn’t the ant that had shocked the man! The man already expected there to be various magical beasts in this Gate, so he wasn’t surprised that the ant was there. Instead, what really shocked the man was the person kneeling beside the girl and putting his hand on her neck.

Who the fuck was that!?

....

Jason put his hand over the girl’s neck to check for her pulse. She was well and truly knocked out, and there was no way she would be getting up for a long time with the amount of injuries that she had. Jason could see blue flames flickering across her body and trying to do something, but it was dying out immediately when it came to life and Jason immediately assumed that it was because the girl was out of mana, so her body couldn’t do what it wanted.

Jason was surprised. What was going on here? Where did she come from, and what the hell caused her this much damage? Jason’s eyes trailed over the scales covering the girl’s cheek and hands. It was very obvious to him that she was not a human, and he immediately wondered if she was some sort of magical beast.

Jason was inside a Gate, right? Was it possible for a humanoid magical beast to exist? Because that was the only explanation that Jason could come up with at that moment.

’No, that doesn’t make any sense. System, do you know what race this is?’

Jason’s brow furrowed. A Dragonborn? This was the second time he would be hearing about worlds other than Earth, and Jason found it a little easier to accept the possibility that there were other worlds now that he knew he was also not from this Earth. But the real question now was how did she get here?

The system was about to answer this question as well, but Jason’s attention was dragged away as he felt a gust of wind blow across the clearing! A massive creature descended from above him, and Jason felt his eyes widen as he saw a literal honest-to-god dragon descending from the sky. Holy. Fucking. Shit.

Jason didn’t even know what to do for the first few seconds. The dragon was as large as a small airplane but with wings that covered more than three times its size in wingspan! Its body was covered in scaly skin that looked thick enough to stop a Gatling Gun’s attack, and on its back was a single man who was glaring down at Jason with intensity!

’A fucking dragon? There’s no way this is real. Hahaha. I always wanted to see one of these things!’

For a moment, Jason’s amazement at the sight of the dragon made a small smile crack on his face, but once Jason saw the dragon rider narrow his eyes, Jason’s smile died out and he slowly got to his feet. Jason didn’t know what was going on, but there was no doubt in his mind that the girl’s injuries had been caused by the dragon rider. Why was he chasing her? Was she some sort of criminal? Or maybe she was running away from him because she owed him something?

No, Jason didn’t think that was the case. Her clothes weren’t tattered like a slave’s, and there were no chains on her. Jason didn’t know exactly what the issue here was, but he was at least certain of the fact that the man was responsible for the girl’s injuries. Jason first needed to figure out what the relationship between the both of them was before he could do anything else, so he decided that he needed to talk to the man.

But before Jason could get a word out, the man opened his mouth and spoke.

"!#@#!@##$#@%$#@!"

Jason’s eyes narrowed in confusion when he heard the gibberish that came out of the man’s mouth! Jason couldn’t understand a single thing that man said! What the hell?

The system immediately brought up a tab.

[Foreign Language Designation: Radagan Tongue]

Jason immediately chose yes, and he felt a strange sensation in his ear and his tongue. It felt like some sort of liquid metal was covering his ear and tongue, and Jason watched the dragon rider closely as the man tightened his hand around the dragon’s leash while shouting!

"!@#@!#@... I said get away from the princess this instant, you filthy human! She is the bride promised to the Sovereign, therefore you are interfering in the business of Radagan royalty! Step away from her and fall to your knees before I end your pathetic life!"

The man’s gibberish suddenly evened out into an understandable language, and Jason felt his eye twitch in irritation when he heard the man hurling insults at him. The man spoke about the girl like she was royalty, but there was no sign of respect in his voice, and it was obvious that he was the one who had attacked her. It didn’t make sense for him to be attacking her like this if she was royalty. Weren’t princesses treated like pearls or something?

Jason felt his face squeeze into a frown! His eyes narrowed at the dragon rider as a feeling of distrust rose in his heart, and the man grit his teeth in irritation the moment he saw this! How dare this trash glare at him! Did he think he was worthy of even looking up at a great member of the Dragonborn race!?

Jason looked from the rider down to the girl before he finally spoke.

"Did she do something wrong? I don’t know about you, but I don’t think a princess should be getting attacked like this. It defeats the entire purpose of her being a princess in the first place."

Jason wasn’t a knight in shining armor. In fact, he was the last person you would see putting his neck on the line for someone that he didn’t know because of some hero complex. But there was just something about seeing someone getting unfairly hurt right in front of you that most humans couldn’t accept.
