Chapter 609: Chapter 609 Ambiguity

"What’s wrong?"

A deep voice from above came from Huo Xingzhou.

Qiao Xi shook her head, confirming she was fine, then raised her head and said, "Let’s go back."

"Alright."

Huo Xingzhou reached out his palm and tightly grasped her hand. "Can you walk? Old Chen said the waiter served you quite a bit of alcohol."

"I can walk."

Qiao Xi softly replied, even attempting to walk a few steps to show Huo Xingzhou. But her steps were wobbly, completely lacking the steadiness of a straight line.

Huo Xingzhou knew her usual drinking capacity wasn’t bad. Old Chen hadn’t exaggerated in the slightest; she did drink quite a lot of champagne.

But the champagne, being low in alcohol content, was drunk on an empty stomach.

Huo Xingzhou wrapped an arm around her waist. "Let’s walk together. When we get home, I’ll have Xiaoyun make you something to eat. You haven’t eaten all evening, and if you go to bed like this, you won’t be able to sleep."

Qiao Xi’s almond-shaped eyes gazed at him earnestly. After a fleeting daze, she nodded. "Alright, I want plain noodle soup with a poached egg. The edges of the egg should be crispy and golden, but the middle should be slightly runny. Sprinkle a bit of vibrant green scallions on top..."

A fleeting, indescribable emotion flashed in Huo Xingzhou’s deep-set eyes. He said, "Okay, I’ll have her make that for you."

He understood—Qiao Xi was definitely missing her grandmother.

She had mentioned before that her grandmother would cook her a bowl of plain noodle soup with a poached egg on her birthday.

The kind of poached egg with crispy edges and a slightly runny yolk.

To make such an egg required a high flame to pan-fry it properly.

A lot had happened tonight. No wonder she drank so much.

Huo Xingzhou held her close as he walked her all the way to the parking lot and helped her into the car.

Old Chen said, "Young Master, Sun Weimeng and the Young Mistress haven’t arrived yet. Should I contact them now?"

"Jiaojiao has someone to escort her. As for Sun Weimeng... he has his ways. He can always hitch a ride back. Don’t worry about him."

"Understood. But we haven’t seen Young Master Sun all evening. No one knows where he’s wandered off to. Normally, he wouldn’t miss the chance to join the fun." Old Chen said as he shut the car door, then walked around to the driver’s seat.

He started the car and pressed on the gas pedal.

The drive to the Garden Villa from here was still quite a long way. It was baffling why the engagement banquet had to be set here.

In the Ancient Castle Hotel’s banquet hall, the number of guests was steadily dwindling. Sun Weimeng’s face still bore a faint lipstick mark as he darted out from a corner.

He searched everywhere for Qiao Xi and Huo Xingzhou but couldn’t find them.

Left with no other choice, he grabbed a waiter and asked, "Have you seen President Huo and Young Madam Huo?" freёwebnoѵel.com

"I think they’ve left."

"What about Huo Sijiao?"

"Miss Huo just stepped out. If you chase her now, you should catch her."

"Thanks, buddy."

As he sprinted, Sun Weimeng lamented Huo Xingzhou’s lack of loyalty while running at full tilt.

The Ancient Castle Hotel was located far from the city. Getting a cab here was nearly impossible. One could only rely on the hotel’s shuttle cars, but tonight, with so many guests, the queue was undoubtedly long. Some attendees had simply opted to stay overnight in the rest area.

But Sun Weimeng was determined to make it home. He’d heard that quite a few dramatic events had occurred tonight, and he was eager to get back and share the gossip.

Sun Weimeng ran until he was panting for air, finally spotting Huo Sijiao at the front gate of the hotel. She wasn’t alone; a few others were accompanying her.

"Huo Sijiao!"

Sun Weimeng called out, his voice cracking.

"Wait for me, Huo Sijiao!"

The figure bathed in the hotel’s front lights paused. Sun Weimeng sprinted to her side, only to notice she was with some old acquaintances.

Xie Xubai, Guan Jingtan, and... Shen Xuanzhi.

What an astonishing coincidence!

"Miss Guan, you’re here too. You look absolutely stunning tonight." Sun Weimeng appeared extra reserved in front of Guan Jingtan. Though he knew there was no chance between them, he still couldn’t help but mind his demeanor in front of his goddess.

"Young Master Sun, hello." Guan Jingtan smiled as she gestured toward his cheek with her fair, delicate fingers.

Only then did Sun Weimeng realize and vigorously wiped at the lipstick smudge on his cheek, laughing awkwardly. "It’s a misunderstanding, a misunderstanding. Some overly enthusiastic girls, couldn’t fend them off."

Guan Jingtan complimented, "Young Master Sun, you truly are someone who lives with passion."

She had never dared to act so boldly and couldn’t help but envy the carefree and unrestrained spirit of Sun Weimeng.

Huo Sijiao muttered in disapproval under her breath, "Sun Weimeng, you’re so embarrassing."

Sun Weimeng snapped back at her, "This is charisma, you wouldn’t understand! And you’re no better—your brother and sister-in-law ditched me, and you didn’t care either. Huo Sijiao, have you forgotten I’m supposed to be your date tonight?"

"A filler date. If I knew more people in the Imperial Capital, I wouldn’t have asked you to join," Huo Sijiao pouted.

"Your pettiness won’t bother me." Sun Weimeng still managed to flash a smile at Guan Jingtan before lowering his voice and asking, "What are you four doing, just standing here like statues?"

"Waiting for a car!"

Huo Sijiao snapped impatiently. "Ning Yuan and the Guan Family’s driver have gone to bring the car around."

"Oh."

Sun Weimeng responded, then tugged at the blazer she was wearing. "Whose jacket is this? Are you afraid of the cold?"

"Sun Weimeng, shut up."

Huo Sijiao snapped, flustered.

Sun Weimeng promptly zipped his lips but couldn’t help scanning the two clusters of people standing around. His eyes glinted with curiosity and gossip.

On one side was Guan Jingtan and Shen Xuanzhi, and on the other, Huo Sijiao and Xie Xubai. Neither pairing seemed straightforward.

Sun Weimeng’s observant gaze sparkled with intent. After a moment of restraint, he couldn’t help himself. He cleared his throat and asked, "Shen Xuanzhi, where have you been staying since you checked out of Yunqi Hotel?"

Even Huo Sijiao, who was pretending not to care, turned her attention toward him.

Shen Xuanzhi, half-shrouded in shadows, responded coolly with an indifferent expression. "I’m staying at the Guan Family residence."

"Staying at the Guan Family’s place? Shen Xuanzhi, are you related to the Guan Family? Why would you be staying there?" Sun Weimeng had overheard some rumors. As Huo Sijiao’s buddy, he felt compelled to get the clarification she wouldn’t ask for herself.

Huo Sijiao, that prideful tsundere, usually had a lot to say. But when it came to Shen Xuanzhi, she turned as silent as a sealed jar.

Shen Xuanzhi didn’t answer immediately.

Instead, it was Guan Jingtan who mediated. "Dr. Shen is helping my grandfather with his health. Our families have had some connections in the past. It’s more convenient for him to stay with us."

"Oh, I see. Well, about your families..."

Sun Weimeng was about to press further when Huo Sijiao yanked him aside, warning, "The car’s here. Say one more word and you’re walking back to the city."

Sun Weimeng immediately zipped his mouth shut.

Xie Xubai stood off to the side, the corners of his lips curled in a subtle smile. "Let’s get in the car."

He nodded slightly in a polite farewell gesture toward Guan Jingtan as Ning Yuan opened the car door.

The three boarded the car, which quickly drove away.

Guan Jingtan remained standing in place, her ethereal beauty otherworldly.

She glanced at Shen Xuanzhi, saying, "If you regret it, there’s still time. I can tell that Miss Huo has feelings for you. And you—you’re not entirely indifferent either."
