Chapter 30: The world was colourful now...

Xavier POV

The room seemed to blur and a rush of memories flooded into my mind, rushing in all at once.

My breath caught in my throat as a minty, fruity scent wafted up my nose, bringing tears to my eyes. For three years, I sought to remember how Selene smelt, the first image that flashed my eyes was the wedding scene that kept hunting my dreams for three years.

In it, I was dressed in a ceremonial Alpha wedding robe and opposite me was Olivia, looking at me with smiling eyes. I could feel a burst of happiness emanating from her as I held her close so she wouldn’t slip and fall.

"I, Selene Thorne, accept you, Alpha Xavier Steele as my mate,".

My eyelids fluttered as the vision faded. Olivia was Selene. My mate has been with me all this while and I didn’t know. I couldn’t see her. My fingers trembled as I stooped to pick up her journal and flipped through it again.

I was skimming through each page as quickly as I could. Everything talked about how much she missed Greyhound and how she could feel Bea—her wolf longing for me several times. She also was thankful that the kids didn’t take after her. They seemed healthy after birth and wouldn’t be subjected to a life of weakness like her.

I closed the journal, feeling my heart thumping in my chest as I walked out of my office to the corridor. Fragments of laughter, echoes of conversations and the warmth of having her here in the last few days filled my mind.

Olivia—Selene was here. She was back from the dead.

Was that what everyone has been trying to tell me all week? Could it be that Lucius was also aware that she was my mate, and he didn’t say anything? Who else knew?

The words of the Fox that had attacked them at the hotel a few days ago flashed into my mind:

"I will beg for my life later on," the man chuckled and then drew closer to Xavier "How does it feel to lose everything that you ever had but do you know what’s more painful, it’s when you discover that everything you know was a lie and that the people around you are trying to hide something which would do you good,".

"What gibberish are you talking about?" Xavier stared at him strangely.

"Olivia," the man snorted, "Didn’t you tell the Alpha who you truly are?"

The girls... I paused as my mind went to the girls. That would mean that they were my children. Joy, nostalgia and a sense of discovery overwhelmed me as I stared at nothing.

The only thing I could think of right now was getting Selene back.

"Lucius," I yelled, running towards the door that led outside the pack house. "Lucius!" I repeated.

"Alpha," he answered from behind me.

I turned immediately and saw him staring at me strangely. He had an annoyed look on his face.

"What’s wrong?" He asked.

"I need to get to the airport now!"

"To the airport?" he arched a brow. "Why?"

"I remember everything, Lucius. Olivia is Selene... My wife, who I thought died three years ago in that plane crash. Turns out she didn’t die as I thought,".

Lucius’s jaw dropped as he stared at me. I could see disbelief in his eyes.

"Xavier," he came closer to me and slowly touched my brow, "Is this you? Are you alright?" He asked.

"Of course I am," I shook his hand off. "I remembered everything just now. I’ve gotten my wolf back. Everything has gone back to normal, Lucius. I’m back to who I used to be,".

"Oh, goddess," Lucius suddenly exclaimed, and he squatted, lowering himself on his leg. "Ah, at last. I thought you were never going to remember,".

"You knew?" I stared at him. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

"Yes," he nodded, "From the first time I saw her, until now. It’s just that we couldn’t tell you. You know how precarious your bond is with her and anything can happen. Besides, you didn’t remember anything, suddenly telling you that another woman was your wife would have confused you,".

"Yeah," I nodded. "We’ll talk about that when I’m back. For now, I’m going to change into some fresh clothes. Ask any of the guards to prepare a car for me and you should come with me too,".

"No," Lucius shook his head. "Someone should stay behind, Alpha. We’re in difficult times and you never can tell what will happen. Besides, this is a special reunion and I wouldn’t want to be in the way,".

"Okay," I nodded, feeling my heart bristling with joy. "Thank you, Lucius..." I said, feeling awkwardness settle between us.

Lucius nodded, scratching his head. Since I didn’t know what else to say, I rushed out of the room.

A few minutes later, I drove like a maniac towards the airport. With Lucius’s influence, we closed the airway from flying, all to delay Noah until I got there. Once she leaves Greyhound, it’ll be difficult to get her back.

As soon as I got to the airport, a group of airport attendants rushed to me. Lucius must have informed them of my coming. Quickly, I tossed my car keys to one of the attendants as I shouted.

"Where is the private Air Strip?" I asked, already moving.

"Come with me, Alpha," One of them indicated and immediately I followed him.

We’ve not moved more than 10 steps when I felt a tug on my legs. In annoyance, I looked down, wondering what it was.

Deep, azure blue eyes stared back at me with tears brimming in them. It was Maeve, the twin.

"Maeve?" I called out in alarm, kneeling to scoop her immediately. "What’s wrong?"

"Dad..." she cried as she entered my arms, sobbing. "I don’t want to go with them. You’re my dad... and I don’t want to go with them,".

"Hey, it’s alright, cupcake," my heart wanted to burst with love as I sniffed at her scent. Now, she felt so tiny in my arms. This was my child... my daughter... the world was colourful now. "Everything will be alright, okay?"

She leans away from me suddenly, staring into my eyes.

"Colton..." she trailed off. "He’s back to you,".

"You know Colton?" My eyes widened in surprise. "How? Who told you about him? Your mum?"

"No," she shook her head. "The first day we came to the pack house, he came to me and Vina. He told us everything. Wait!" her beautiful eyes grew big as she stared at me. "If he’s back, it could only mean that you remember everything,".

"Yes," I nodded, placing a kiss on her forehead "And I know your mom is my wife and my mate whom I thought died three years ago,".

"Oh, goddess!" Maeve clapped her hand gleefully. "Vina will be thrilled. Come, let’s go to them,".

"Were you trying to run away just now?" I queried as we started moving in the direction she pointed. "Your mom will be so worried,".

"They’ll be fine without me," she said, pouting. "Mummy hurt my feelings when she accepted to marry Noah. She knows I don’t like him that much,".

"That’s your uncle," I said, chuckling at the weirdness of everything. If someone had told me I’d be fighting with my uncle over a woman someday, I would have called their bluff.

"Anyways, I’m so glad you’re back to normal Daddy," Maeve said and wrapped her hand around my neck, leaning on my shoulders.

By this time, we were in front of the private jet. My ears picked up voices. It was Selene lamenting over going out to find Maeve. I could sense the worry in her entire being. As we got closer, Colton wagged his tail. He’s never shown excitement like this.

I climbed up the stairs, balancing Maeve in my hand and rehearsing all the things I wanted to say.

When I entered, Uncle Noah was hugging Selene, asking her to calm down. A nerve in my jaw twitched as I felt jealousy ooze out of every part of my body. Calming myself, I moved closer to them.

"Looking for someone?"

Selene whipped around immediately. As soon as she saw me, she clasped her hand on her mouth, staggering backwards.

"Xavier!" Noah came to me immediately, stretching out his hand for Maeve. "Where did you go honey? we’ve been looking for you?"

Maeve refused to go to Noah, tightening her grip on me. "I was going to find my dad," she said.

"You were going to find your, Dad?" by this time, Selene had recovered and marched up to us. "Do you know how worried we all were? How many people we’ve sent out just to go look for you? How many times have I asked you to stop running away when things do not go your way?"

"You weren’t listening to me, Mom," Maeve complained. "You didn’t want to hear what I said. By the way, Dad got his memories back, and he knows who you are," she announced.

Selene turned and gave me a sharp look, disbelief in her eyes as she searched mine.

"Yes," I nodded, giving her a small smile. "I remember everything now, dear. I’m sorry, it took me so long to do that but I hope I can make it up to you,".

"Make what up to me?" she scoffed, brushing me aside as she reached for Maeve, whose hands were holding me tightly. "Hand me the girl, Xavier. We need to leave, now!".

"Leave?" My gaze darted in confusion to my Noah, who was standing behind us quietly "To where? I remember who you are now, Selene, and I know these are my children – our children. We should be as a family now?"

"Family?" she let out a long, bitter laugh. "That will never happen. Now give me my child,".
