Chapter 34: Is that a good sign?

Selene POV

My eyes widened with shock as I stared at Lucius...

"Is...Is that a good sign?" I asked. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ

"No," he shook his head, I could literally feel the panic in his voice "Kurtis is cruel and he’s coming for revenge no doubt. A few weeks ago, we had a quarrel over some piece of land and at the cause of the exchange, two of his men were killed. Even though we met to sign some treaty...".

"Yeah," Noah interrupted Lucius "I was there and he affirmed that he won’t attack. Except he is coming for something else, then I better call for backup. Kurtis is dangerous,".

"The foxes sent him," Maeve said suddenly startling us.

In unison, we turned to her. She was still lying on the bed and rubbed her eyes sleepily.

"What did you say?" Lucius brushed past us and knelt by the bed.

"The Foxes and some Alphas in the region. Crimson Pack and Blue Mountains Pack. They don’t know Daddy has gotten his wolf back and they intend to attack," Maeve said further.

I could see confusion in Noah’s eyes as he stared at Maeve but Lucius was acting like it was normal. As if it was a normal information that he would ordinarily get access to on any day.

"How do you know all of that?" Noah asked drawing close to Maeve "Did someone tell you?"

"Children born to mates like Selene and Xavier are gifted with clairvoyance," Lucius explained rising to his feet "But it’s rare. I should go get Xavier. Why didn’t he tell me he has gotten his wolf,".

Lucius excused himself until it was just me and Noah. I could feel his gaze on me but I busied myself straightening the room, pretending I was busy. From the corner of my eyes, I saw him drop Vina on the floor and comes to me.

"Did you know about the girls having Clairvoyance?" he asked staring at me.

"Well..." I shrugged giving him a nervous smile.

"You knew?" his voice was laced with hurt "Why did you keep it away from me?"

"Noah..." I tried to reach for him but he took several steps backwards.

"We’ve been together for three years; Olivia and you’ve lied to me repeatedly. You’ve taken me for granted because how could you keep this away from me? Do you know how stupid I felt just now?"

"I’m sorry, Noah," I sighed "It’s weird to tell people things like this. I was worried that you’d think that about the girls," I said.

"You’d think that weird about the girls?" he scoffed "Olivia, I fucking picked you from a lonely forest. If that is not weird enough...you think telling me the girls were special would have made me think that. You’re making excuses again,".

"I’m sorry," I repeated running my hands through my hair "I’m trying okay. I just have a lot going on,".

"What else are you hiding, Olivia?" His gaze darkened "What else am I supposed to know that you’ve conveniently kept away from me?"

"We have wolves," Vina spoke up from behind him and came to stand in front of him "We were born with our wolves and we were also born on the day of the Blood Moon. That’s all, Noah. Don’t be angry with mummy... if a lot of people know about us, it’ll put I and my sister in danger,".

Noah’s gaze left me as it settled on Vina.

"I just wish she’d open up to me more," he told her.

"Why?" Maeve’s voice rang from where she was still sitting on the bed "You’re not our dad. Why are you angry that she didn’t tell you?"

"Maeve!" I shouted as my blood ran cold "Watch what you say, young lady," I marched across the room to her "You cannot talk to him like that,".

"Why not?" she said defiantly "He claims to be a king yet he wants to take someone else’s mate,".

"I and your father are no longer, mates, Maeve!" I shouted "I rejected and divorced him. I am free to be with whoever I want to be with,".

"But dad didn’t reject you," Maeve folded her hands "Doesn’t that count? Besides, his mark on your neck still glows whenever he’s nearby. Isn’t that enough proof that you’re still connected to him,".

"I’ve told you several times, that you should stay away from adult conversations. This is none of your business,".

Noah came over to where we were and said with a quiet smile to me "I’ll go and check the situation of things,".

Then he turned and left the room.

"You can’t keep doing this, Maeve. Don’t make me discipline you. Without Alpha Noah, you would have died a long time ago. He was kind enough to let us live in his pack and not as strangers but we lived in a grand style. All that was possible because of his help. Just because you’ve united with your father, doesn’t mean you can act whatever way you want,".

She stared at me for a while, the scowl still on her face.

"So, you like him because he’s kind? Do you even like him, mom?" she asked.

"It’s for me to worry. We already had a life in Moon Whispers Pack and when all of this is over, we’ll go back there. Until you become an adult; feed and earn... you can make decisions. Until then, I make the decisions,".

"You can go with Vina..." she crossed her leg "I’m staying back with dad,".

"No, you won’t," I told her "We’re going home together and if you’re well-behaved you might be allowed occasional visits to your father else, I’ll make sure you never see him,".

"Y-You can’t do that?" Tears welled up in her eyes.

"I can!" I told her coldly "Don’t try me, Maeve. I am your mother and until you come to terms with that, I’ll keep drumming it in your head and don’t you dare try to run away like last time. We’re yet to talk about how you’d be punished,".

"I hate you!" she screamed launching herself on the pillow "You hate dad so much, that’s why you’re doing this. I hate you!"

My heart twisted with grief at my daughter’s words but what could I do? There was a lot at stake and I would willingly put up with her hatered for now. I couldn’t be with her father, no matter what.

I go back to the wardrobe in the hospital room and took out my clothes before going into the changing room to change. When I was done, I came back out, and met, Vina staring anxiously at me and Maeve sobbing hard on the bed.

"We need to go back to the Pack house, it’ll be safer," I announced to no one in particular.

"Mummy," Vina tugged at my clothes "If they fight, a lot of people will die," she told me "But there’s a way to get everything resolved,".
