That Time My Anime Life Got Cursed by Outer Gods-Chapter 79 - 78: The Best Actor, Hayasaka Ai
Chapter 79 - 78: The Best Actor, Hayasaka Ai
Several of the girls were startled by the sudden bang and instinctively turned to the door.
There stood Shiro Sakamaki, the transfer student they had just been talking about, his expression cold, his hand firmly holding Yukino Yukinoshita's wrist.
He had heard every venomous word they said just moments before. If he hadn't been at school today, who knew how far things might've gone.
"You... Who are you and what do you want?" one of the girls stammered, her voice trembling. Her gaze drifted to the kicked-in iron door—thick, reinforced, now bent inward with a deep, clean footprint embedded in it.
Ai Hayasaka silently took two steps back, the unexpected turn of events making her wary. As Kaguya Shinomiya's attendant, she had heard whispers of "exceptional" individuals—people whose capabilities went beyond normal human limits—but this was the first time she had seen one with her own eyes.
Shiro's tone was calm, but laced with disdain. "Weren't you just talking about me? What's wrong, don't recognize me now?"
Two of the girls recognized him instantly, their mouths opening and closing wordlessly, overwhelmed by fear.
Shiro nodded toward the corner. "Your shoes are over there. Go get them."
Yukino didn't say anything. She walked forward silently, retrieved her shoes from the pile of equipment, and returned to Shiro's side. Her gaze briefly met his, and for a moment, the icy walls around her cracked just enough to whisper, "Thank you."
"It's getting late. You should head home."
Yukino hesitated, then said in a low voice, "I've got my things now. You don't need to get yourself involved anymore."
Shiro raised an eyebrow. He hadn't expected her to be concerned about him. It was... refreshing.
"I can handle it. You should go."
With one last look of uncertainty, Yukino finally nodded and left. As her silhouette disappeared down the hall, the warmth in Shiro's expression faded, replaced by a cold and dangerous calm.
He turned back to the remaining girls. "I'll say this just once," he said, voice low and menacing. "I heard everything. I'm not going to do anything today, but don't ever let something like this happen again. Whether you were involved or not, I'll hold all of you responsible."
His aura intensified, and the sheer pressure released from his presence caused the air to thicken.
The privileged girls—untouchable in their own minds—were suddenly paralyzed with fear. They slumped to the ground, consciousness slipping away under the invisible force he'd unleashed.
Shiro, however, held back. He hadn't used his full power—just enough to terrify them. Any more, and they'd have been bedridden for life. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
Surprisingly, one person was still conscious.
Ai Hayasaka.
She had been pretending to be unconscious. Shiro noticed, but said nothing. If she was smart enough to stay quiet, then that saved him the trouble of dragging this out.
As his footsteps faded, Hayasaka slowly sat up, drenched in sweat. She glanced at the unconscious girls around her, her face pale. So this is what it means to live among monsters, she thought grimly.
She had originally intended to report what happened to a teacher—but the moment she even thought about moving, a chill crept down her spine.
Her instincts screamed at her: Don't.

Meanwhile, on the way home, Shiro received a message from Eriri.
Eriri: [The flowers and books you ordered have arrived. When will you come pick them up?]
He replied after a quick thought:
Shiro: [I'm free tonight. That okay?]
Eriri, lying on her bed, blinked in surprise. Her fingers flew as she typed back:
Eriri: [Sure. Want to stay for dinner? I'll ask my mom.]
Shiro: [Thanks. I'll be there in an hour.]
Eriri: [Don't forget how nice I am to you, got it? You owe me big time!]
Shiro chuckled and put his phone away, heading for the station instead of riding his bike. The tram was more convenient with rush hour traffic.
By the time he arrived at the Sawamura residence, the sun had already dipped beneath the horizon. The last golden rays cast long shadows across the quiet neighborhood.
He spotted Eriri peeking out from behind the door before quickly disappearing. When he stepped inside, the table was already set. Sayuri Sawamura was arranging the dishes, smiling warmly.
"Shiro-kun, welcome. Eriri's been waiting for you at the door for a while now," she teased.
"Hmph, who's waiting for him? I just needed fresh air!" Eriri snapped, turning away.
Shiro grinned and ruffled her hair gently. Surprisingly, she didn't protest. Sayuri's smile widened at the scene.
"By the way," Shiro said, "I don't think I've seen Uncle Spencer around. Is he away?"
Sayuri's smile faded, and she sighed. Shiro realized he might have touched on something sensitive and quickly changed the subject.
"These dishes... did you make them, Sayuri-san?"
"Ara, I tried! After you visited last time, I thought I should learn. Your cooking is still beyond me, but I hope it's edible."
Shiro looked at the food. It was mostly simple home cooking—nothing fancy. But it smelled good enough.
Then he took a bite of the Mapo Tofu... and froze.
Sweet?
Wasn't it supposed to be spicy?
"How is it?" Sayuri asked, eyes filled with hopeful curiosity.
Shiro took another spoonful, chewed, and swallowed. "It's not bad at all. For a beginner, this is pretty impressive."
He didn't lie—but he didn't say it was correct either.
