Chapter 82 - 81: A Scumbag who Seduces Girls with Fantasies.
Walking alongside a beautiful girl wasn't something to complain about—at least not for Shiro Sakamaki.
Sure, he might need to carry her bags or offer a hand when she got tired, but all in all, it was a task he'd gladly accept. He had no complaints.
As he happily agreed to accompany her, Kato Megumi remained expressionless, but her heart quietly fluttered.
Though she saw herself as just an ordinary girl, Megumi had her own little secrets—hidden feelings she didn't dare voice.
Even during the quiet lull of afternoon classes, she found herself counting down the minutes until school ended.
—
The final bell rang, its soft chime signaling freedom. The day's classes were over.
Shiro sent a quick message to Tian Jingzhong, excusing himself from club duties. Predictably, he received a scolding from Ritsu Taide in return. Shiro ignored it with a smile.
He glanced around—the seat beside him was empty. Yukinoshita Yukino had already left, likely heading to her clubroom. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
Opening his chat with Utaha, he checked the address she sent, then forwarded it to Megumi.
The café wasn't far. About thirty minutes of walking brought him to the spot—a quiet place tucked between city blocks, cozy and subtle, just like Utaha.
He entered and found the private room she'd reserved.
Inside, Kasumigaoka Utaha was already waiting, her long legs crossed, clad in elegant black stockings. She was tapping her heel softly, clearly a little irritated.
As he pushed the door open, she raised an eyebrow and spoke sharply, "Teacher Sakamaki, making a lady wait isn't exactly gentlemanly behavior."
Without waiting for a reply, she reached into her bag and slid a stack of papers across the table.
"I've finished your manuscript. I have to say, it's surprisingly good. Immersive. Almost as if it was based on your real experience."
Shiro gave her a small, amused smile. "Maybe it is."
Utaha chuckled lightly. "You've got a sense of humor after all."
Just then, another voice cut through the room—calm and gentle.
"Shiro-kun... is this a novel you wrote?"
Utaha's eyes flicked to the side in surprise.
Kato Megumi had spoken.
Unnoticed until now, she had already been sitting in the corner. She had arrived before either of them, quietly waiting in the private booth.
Because of her quiet presence—and almost uncanny ability to go unnoticed—Utaha hadn't even realized another girl was in the room.
Shiro smiled and gestured toward the manuscript. "Yeah, Kato-chan. Want to take a look?"
He slid both the previous draft and today's new pages toward her.
Utaha blinked, startled. "This classmate... who is she?"
"She's the friend I mentioned—the one from your school."
Utaha studied Megumi. At first glance, she was so unassuming it was almost eerie. But if you looked closely, you'd find a quiet kind of charm in her. Her gentle eyes, soft bob-cut hair, and serene demeanor created a soothing aura.
She was, in a word, calming.
"I see... as expected of you, Teacher Sakamaki. To find a hidden gem even at Shuchiin Academy."
Megumi tilted her head. "???"
"I just got lucky," Shiro said with a shrug.
"But let's focus on why we're here. Your situation, Miss Utaha, is more serious than you think."
Utaha frowned. "Serious? It's just a broken amulet."
"No," Shiro said flatly. "It's serious enough that if we don't act soon, you might be dead in a few days."
Utaha's expression darkened. She leaned back in her chair, eyes narrowing. "That's a bit much, isn't it, Teacher Sakamaki? Sounds like fear-mongering."
"I'm just stating facts," he replied calmly. "Have you had any strange dreams lately? Nightmares?"
She hesitated—only for a second.
"Yes. So what?"
"There's strong yin energy around you. A ghost, most likely. The amulet was protecting you... but only temporarily. It wasn't meant for long-term use. When its spiritual energy depleted, it turned to ash. That's what you saw this morning."
Utaha scoffed. "Sounds like you're just making things up."
"You're free to believe that," Shiro said. "But I asked Kato to come along specifically so you wouldn't misunderstand my intentions. I need to inspect your room."
But Utaha's eyes had gone cold. Her voice carried a sharp edge.
"I finally meet someone I felt a connection with online, and it turns out he's this kind of person. Disappointing."
She crossed her arms and looked at Shiro like he was the scum of the earth.
"How do I know you two aren't working together? Luring girls into this creepy occult fantasy?"
Megumi's voice cut in—soft, but firm.
"It's all true. The things Shiro-kun wrote... the heroine in this story is me."
She pointed to the part of the manuscript dealing with ghouls.
Utaha turned toward her in disbelief. Despite the content of her words, Megumi's tone was almost detached, as if she were discussing something unrelated to herself.
"You've been fooled," Utaha said coldly. "There's no such thing as supernatural events. If there were, there'd be proof—reports, news online. But there's nothing. This is obviously all a lie."
Her voice rose. She was no longer speaking rationally—anger, confusion, and disappointment were bubbling over.
She took a sharp breath, her chest heaving slightly.
Shiro's eyes flicked down instinctively. And Utaha noticed.
Her face turned crimson with rage. She pulled her arms tightly across her chest and glared at him.
Scumbag, she thought. He's just a scumbag who seduces girls with fantasies.
Seeing she wasn't willing to listen anymore, Shiro sighed and leaned back.
"There's no point arguing. You'll understand when it shows up."
And with that, the room fell into tense silence.
