The All-Master of Cyberpunk-Chapter 29
Episode 29 - Nephilim Hunt
The Nephilim Hunt mobilized nearly 6,000 troops.
The force consisted of 2,000 mechanized exoskeleton and military tech body-enhanced infantry. Another 3,000 mechanized infantry operated combat vehicles with powerful protective capabilities, even if their tech bodies were slightly inferior to the enhanced infantry. Additionally, there were 120 elite special forces soldiers with physical specs comparable to A-rank hunters. An air force unit operated aircraft, while a biochemical specialist unit with 500 members was ready to counter special mutants.
Lastly, 200 hunters from every guild in the Daegu Green Zone joined the effort.
In total, nearly all the forces that could be deployed outside the walls of Daegu were assembled.
Including rear support and forces guarding other areas as a precaution, the total reached 10,000.
This was the largest deployment since the establishment of the Daegu Green Zone.
Given the target was the special large-scale mutant, the Creeping Disaster, it was understandable. The sight of such a force marching towards Suseong District was quite a spectacle.
Heavily armed helicopters flew over ruined buildings, and armored vehicles roared down the roads below.
Occasionally, the noise attracted lower and mid-level mutants that attacked the convoy, but even mid-level mutants were swiftly repelled by the organized military firepower.
"Why didn't they do this sooner?" I remarked as I watched the scene from a rooftop, prompting Yu Hyun-a to pout.
"It's not as easy as it sounds. It takes something like the Creeping Disaster to mobilize this kind of force."
"Are you sure it's okay for both of you to be out here?" Park Hyung-rok, who had joined us with Yu Hyun-a, asked with a concerned voice. Ha-an shrugged and answered for me.
"We're freelancers in all but name. Even our guild leader has no combat experience and is waiting in the rear."
Our guild, the Chilgok Guild, was a lower-tier guild and couldn’t avoid being pushed to the sidelines. Guild leader Choi Hyun-soo was likely scrambling for any scraps he could get, but other guilds were in the same boat.
At least we were assigned to defend an area expected to see some combat, unlike other lower-tier guilds used as mere bait.
In essence, we were a reserve force and a second line of defense.
This alone showed that Choi Hyun-soo’s maneuvering skills weren’t terrible. After all, many liberation village forces, including those who responded to Daegu’s cooperation request, were positioned nearby.
The Haneul-gil's support helped fill the firepower gap, and I could easily include Hyung-rok and Hyun-a in my group.
"But why did you specifically bring us two out of all the Haneul-gil members? We’re just a militia. Can we really help hunters?" Hyung-rok asked, scratching his cheek. Just a militia? Do militias nowadays drive anti-aircraft tanks?
I pulled a blue plastic chair from the rooftop and began explaining.
"Because most of the hunter guilds will be annihilated here. The three of you will control the defensive line in case of an emergency."
"What?"
"Uncle, what are you saying!? Aack!!"
Hyun-a, who had been sitting on the railing without a care, fell back in surprise, and Hyung-rok's eyes widened.
Only Ha-an, who was a key figure in this plan, nodded seriously.
I kindly explained the current situation of the Daegu Green Zone to Hyung-rok and Hyun-a. There was no point in hiding it anymore.
"Haha! This is so typical of Daegu Green Zone's end. Mutual destruction in harmony. Damn."
The 1st and 2nd hunter guilds being effectively 'disposed of' by the Green Zone government, leading to a mutant invasion and the fall of the Green Zone.
Despite the shocking truth, Hyung-rok just shook his head in disbelief.
Hyun-a went a step further, spinning her sniper rifle and laughing.
"Serves them right."
As expected of liberation village residents.
The two of them accepted the political power struggle in Daegu and the impending collapse of the Green Zone due to the operation’s fallout.
"You’re surprisingly calm about this."
"Daegu's been a mess for ages. It’s a miracle it's held out this long. Even Granny Chun-ja at Haneul-gil knows that."
"Indeed, Haneul-gil has already prepared evacuation routes in case things go south. We’ve set up a branch village in Seongju to the northwest."
They gave wise answers.
Trusting a government that ostracized and backstabbed liberation village residents while asking for their cooperation when needed? I’d react the same way.
"Uncle, if what you say is true, why aren’t you two running?"
"We intend to prevent the worst-case scenario."
I turned to look towards the stadium, where the battle was likely raging.
The fall of the defensive line before reinforcements could arrive to support Daegu, leading to the city being overrun.
This was one of the main conditions for entering the worst bad ending scenario in Seoul 2056.
Running away was never an option.
I could take a few key people and flee, but that would leave us unprepared for the events in Jeonju.
"That’s why I called you two."
I addressed Hyung-rok in a serious tone.
"We need Haneul-gil's full cooperation to prevent Daegu’s worst-case scenario."
It wouldn’t be long before the seemingly advantageous situation completely reversed.
The mutants were helpless against the overwhelming military force.
The enhanced infantry mowed down mid and high-level mutants with powerful firepower.
In the urban environment, fleeing mutants or those taking side streets were picked off by the mechanized forces' tight perimeter.
"Commander! We've received intel that Daegongwon Station has been liberated!"
"The force gathered at Gacheon Station forward base has started moving south. A defensive line around the stadium should be established soon!"
Despite the initial panic about the reappearance of a special mutant that had turned Gyeongbuk into hell 15 years ago, the operation was progressing smoothly.
While a Red Zone had been declared in Suseong District due to the Creeping Disaster, there weren’t many high-level mutants in the area. Losses were minimal.
Most injuries were from acidic attacks by mid-level mutants on regular soldiers. But they’d survive if moved to the rear biochem units.
Daegu wasn’t what it used to be.
Humanity had made remarkable progress amidst the remnants of a collapsed civilization, ready to breathe life back into this forsaken land.
The tension eased among soldiers as they gained confidence. Hunters involved in the urban cleanup bragged about the soul stones they collected.
Optimism spread like an epidemic across the field, reaching a peak with the arrival of Daegu’s top guilds, Dongseong and Namjin Front.
"This is Goose One! Dongseong Guild has arrived in the operational area."
"Gyeongbokgung, Gyeongbokgung, this is Rhino. Namjin Front's full force has reached the stadium perimeter and is deploying!"
Dongseong and Namjin Front’s arrival signaled the start of the end for the Creeping Disaster. Mutants were best dealt with by hunters, not the military.
The two guilds alone possessed enough power to take on the remaining 26 guilds combined.
One S-rank.
Eight A-ranks.
Twenty-five B-ranks.
B-rank hunters, which other guilds struggled to have even one, didn’t even get the spotlight here.
Every moment of the operation was being broadcast live, and Daegu Green Zone citizens were ecstatic seeing the two guild leaders in action.
Playing to the crowd, Dongseong Guild Leader Ryu Jin opened the helicopter door and faced the broadcast drone.
The sudden appearance of the superstar startled the drone, making it wobble mid-air.
Ryu Jin chuckled and addressed the only S-rank hunter in Daegu, "Blood Sword" Ma Seong-chan, standing beside him.
"Have you ever fought a special mutant?"
"Of course not. But I’ve always wanted to."
"You’ll achieve your goal today. Both of us will."
Dongseong had absolute recognition in Daegu, but former idol Ryu Jin aimed for the national stage.
The achievement of subduing the Creeping Disaster would give him leverage against Seoul and Daejeon.
He couldn't stay in this corpse-smelling, backwater frontline forever.
"Let's get going."
Ryu Jin’s back split open, revealing massive steel wings. A higher-grade flight tech body than standard military specs.
"I’ll follow. You go first."
"Of course, the guild leader leads the charge!"
As Dongseong Guild Leader "Black Wing" Ryu Jin began his freefall,

ROAR!!
A towering giant, 15 meters tall and 95 meters long, broke through the stadium walls, revealing itself.
