The Boss King actually disguised himself as a novice village chief?!-Chapter 40 - Human-faced Worm
40: Chapter 40 Human-faced Worm
40 -40 Human-faced Worm
Romantic Bumbler had to work, so he logged off.
As a lone-wolf type of farming player, Ace Aimu could only explore alone.
Star Dragon Ridge Outpost seemed small, with only 60 players, but it had actually been divided into several small groups.
There were groups based on dialect from different regions, groups divided by age, and groups formed around different play styles such as building, fighting monsters, exploration, etc.
Ace Aimu and Romantic Bumbler had been captives without any strength for the last three days and had to stick together for warmth.
He wasn’t very fond of the monster-fighting aspect, admittedly flashy skills looked cool, but not everyone could confront creatures with twisted appearances.
Unlike VR games, the full immersion of “Doomsday Magic Ring” gave many timid players a dilemma.
The gloomy atmosphere, the sun that hung in the sky yet gave off the comfort of a refrigerator light, all made for a spine-chilling experience.
Ace Aimu wasn’t scared; it’s just that his interest in gaming didn’t lie in combat; he enjoyed farming.
If he could add romance, farm theft, and forging into the mix, it would be his ultimate game.
Now, “Doomsday Magic Ring” was subtly replacing “Stardew Valley” in his heart, slowly becoming his top game.
The calamitous aura of the Scavenger’s Nest had started to dissipate, so he had to set off in search of seeds and to find a new Calamity Shadow Region. novelbuddy.cσ๓
Before leaving, he even soaked some beans in water, hoping to see them sprout when he got back.
“Rustle, rustle”
There was a noise ahead.
“Who’s there!” Ace Aimu, barely armored, wasn’t scared.
His heart was first seized by fear, then turned to excitement.
Ha!
He lunged forward but, upon seeing that it was just a bug the size of a thumb, goosebumps erupted, and a wrong move caused him to trip over his own feet and fall to the ground.
It was close, but at least he hadn’t lunged at it.
Yet, he was very close to that bug.
It was an ugly bug with a human face, legless, but looking like an arthropod.
It was as if a caterpillar had donned an insect’s armor.
That human face, wrinkled, looked like…
a baby’s face.
Roll!
The Human-faced Worm’s eyes turned to look at Ace Aimu.
Ace Aimu felt a tingling on his scalp as if it were about to explode.
It was precisely these bizarre things that sent shivers down one’s spine.
So, he got up decisively, and, with the instinct he would use to deal with cockroaches in the south, delivered a deadly stomp.
It burst open.
His foot felt soft, sticky, and it seemed like his toe crevices were also filled with gunk.
Then he remembered, he didn’t have shoes on.
“Ugh,” he felt like vomiting.
Like stepping in poop, Ace Aimu vigorously scraped his foot on the ground, nearly wearing it out before he stopped.
“Phew,” he tried his best to blank his mind, thinking of nothing.
The path ahead was desolate.
After leaving Star Dragon Ridge Outpost, Ace Aimu chose to head west.
It was said that there used to be a wolf den here.
Now, walking by the former wolf den, the stench of rottenness was still present after just three or four days.
“This definitely isn’t a Calamity Shadow Region.”
Ace Aimu continued westward, seemingly without having seen anyone else go in that direction.
Many Undead chose to head north; the Scavenger’s Nest was north of Star Dragon Ridge, and perhaps going north could yield some findings, based on gaming experience.
In many games without route guides, following the direction of the “monsters” can usually lead to the correct path.
The level of monsters encountered on the way can indicate whether you’re on the right track.
He walked from dawn until dusk, and nothing strange happened on the way.
However, along the journey, he really did pick up quite a few mutant plants.
It’s not much, but there are many things that obviously can be used to make poison.
“I guess that counts as expanding the seed variety.”
My knife is coated with a deadly poison.
Zzzt.
Ace Aimu unconsciously stretched out his tongue, making an empty licking motion.
Too bad he can only suffer in silence, unknown to others.
Halfway through, he logged off, went to the bathroom to relieve himself, and when he logged back on, even he couldn’t tell how far he had traveled or in which direction.
He decided to climb a tree, hoping to get a better view and maybe determine his location.
Although climbing the tree was somewhat difficult, his effort was immediately rewarded when he saw, beyond a small hill, a cluster of buildings.
It must be a village, with people staggering about.
Only then did Ace Aimu notice that in the direction of Star Dragon Ridge, there was a billowing cloud of thick smoke.
“What’s going on?” Ace Aimu wondered, bewildered.
Had he missed an important part of the story?
…
“I couldn’t have missed an important event, could I?”
Loves White Silk shaded his eyes with his hand as he looked toward Star Dragon Ridge.
Today’s filming content was a bit dull, so he headed southwest toward Star Dragon Ridge, planning to open the map and look for something interesting.
Logging off like this, he couldn’t help but feel reluctant.
The Black Tortoise Shield trio weren’t together.
After all, they were still students, and they had formed a team only temporarily.
For someone like Loves White Silk who filmed videos, it wasn’t suitable to have too many players in the frame.
Too noisy and disruptive, it didn’t match his style of live-commentary gaming.
Whether to continue exploring or to turn back toward Star Dragon Ridge was a decision to be made.
“No way, I have to keep going!” Loves White Silk immediately made his decision.
If he turned back now, he was sure to only get secondhand information.
This crappy game didn’t have a hearthstone; he could only travel on foot.
By the time he got back, the moment would have long passed.
Passing through the thick forest, the silence and the increasingly dark clouds overhead felt like a heavy cotton blanket pressing down.
It was stifling, hard to breathe.
In the quiet, he could faintly hear human voices.
“Someone’s there!” Loves White Silk’s eyes lit up.
Whether it was a wanderer or another NPC, meeting someone was good news.
He tiptoed and crouched forward, heels raised high, covering his ears as he went.
Games are mysterious; as long as he couldn’t hear, perhaps they couldn’t either.
“Crack!” Loves White Silk accidentally stepped on a twig, making a crisp sound.
No response?
Good!
But with his previous experience in sneaking, Loves White Silk thought he should prepare for the worst.
His attitude in doing things was always to make the greatest effort with the least expectation and the worst-case scenario in mind.
He was used to being cautious.
In the distance, there were six men seated around a campfire.
The scent of meat grilling over the fire and the strong aroma of alcohol wafted over, making Loves White Silk unconsciously swallow.
Grilled meat, as long as it sizzles and oozes oil, is divine!
The few people, drunk and merry, seemed utterly unaware of a green-haired oddity approaching in the night.
Even though his footsteps were heavy enough to sound “thud” and “thud.”
Even though his shadow loomed unsteadily in the firelight.
Even though every move he made caused his rusty armor to emit a teeth-gritting squeak.
Loves White Silk: “My stealth skills have indeed improved.”
