The Creatures That We Are-Chapter 1133: Brave
Chapter 1133: Brave
At nine o’clock the next day morning, the detailed list of the power-concentrating plan was finalized. Dragon, Gao Yang, War Tiger, Vermilion Bird, and Dr. Jia were discussing the possibility of developing specialized weapons according to each death monster’s power in the front yard when Nine Frost and Chen Ying came over.
“Captain, I have the final list.” Nine Frost handed each of them one copy.
War Tiger snatched his copy first, his eyes scanning the list quickly. “Good. But I have a question.”
“What is it?” Nine Frost asked.
War Tiger's face remained serious. “When are you and Chen Ying getting married?”
Unfazed, Chen Ying said easily, “I don’t believe in marriage.”
“I listen to her,” Nine Frost said.
War Tiger snorted and dropped the subject.
Gao Yang went through the list.
Those who wanted to keep fighting included: Gao Yang, Dragon, Vermilion Bird, War Tiger, Qing Ling, Nine Frost, Chen Ying, Nainai, Hong Xiaoxiao, Raven Shark, Liao Liao, Gregor, Dr. Jia, Zhang Wei, One Stone, Mischievous Monkey, Lovely Lamb, Adept Horse, Crimson Bee, Old Seven, and Harvest Song.

Among them, Wang Weiyan, Canary, Donxote, and Bumblebee had named the recipients of their Talents, while the others would follow instructions.
Heavenly Dog and Xiao Xin were two who could not make their own decision at the present.
Vermilion Bird turned to Chen Ying with a frown. “Lovely Lamb...is going to keep fighting?”
“Yeah.” Chen Ying smiled wryly. “I talked to her. She insisted, and she meant it.”
Nine Frost added, “Although Lovely Lamb is young, this is an important decision that cannot be reversed. I believe she should be allowed to make her own decision.”
Vermilion Bird looked around at the others. Met with silence, she sighed and let the matter rest.
...
Late at night, Lovely Lamb and Wang Weiyan lay on the bed in the children’s room on their bellies, dressed in pink and white bear pajamas. Together, they flipped through an illustrated fairytale about five peas in a pod.
The peas dreamed of seeing the world beyond their shell. One longed to see the sun, another wished to visit the moon, two wanted to dine in a palace, and the last would be content anywhere. Fate carried each to a different world, leading them down separate paths. When they reached the final page, both girls still craved more.
A sudden sadness washed over Wang Weiyan. She lowered her head, her voice trembling. “Little Lamb, are you not afraid of monsters?”
Lovely Lamb considered it seriously. “I’m afraid. I sometimes have nightmares.”
“Then why don’t you stay with me? We’re little. The adults will protect us.”
“Because...” Lovely Lamb smiled bashfully. “I want to help the others. I’m always happy when I get to help.”
“You’re brave, Little Lamb.” Wang Weiyan’s eyes reddened. “I’m...too afraid of monsters. I, I don’t want to be eaten...”
Lovely Lamb gently hugged her. “Don’t be scared, Yanyan. Lend me your power, and I’ll protect you and everyone.”
“Okay.” Wang Weiyan nodded vigorously through her tears. “You, you have to come back. You’re my best friend.”
“Yeah, I’ll be back.” Lovely Lamb held out her pinky. “Promise.”
“Promise!” Wang Weiyan broke into a teary smile.
...
“Isn’t Crimson Bee afraid of dying?” War Tiger commented as he looked at the list, stroking his chin. “Didn’t expect him to stay.”
Chen Ying sat down next to Vermilion Bird. “Many of them are afraid of death. Hong Xiaoxiao too, but she stays.”
“Oh, her!” War Tiger's voice rose sharply, his composure cracking. “Why would she? She should’ve just given me her Talents. This is such a waste!”
Nine Frost took his place beside Chen Ying, pouring tea for both of them. “It’s not that Hong Xiaoxiao doesn’t want to be a regular person again, but that she can’t.”
Gao Yang nodded. “People change.”
Vermilion Bird stirred her coffee with her head lowered. “Hong Xiaoxiao became braver—not because she’s now stronger, but because there’s too much weight on her shoulders.”
“Gray Bear, Lithe Snake, Can, Zhong He, Ke Yo...” Chen Ying sighed. “If she backed down now, she would never forgive herself.”
She was talking about Hong Xiaoxiao, but it was also about her and those around her.
The atmosphere grew heavy. To lighten the mood, War Tiger quickly changed the topic. “Hm? Canary chose to leave? Isn’t the puppy always barking loudly?”
...
Under the setting sun, Harvest Song sat on the rooftop of the mansion, her shadow stretching long behind her small frame.
Another small figure flipped onto the rooftop. It was Canary, wearing sportswear with the character “dog” on the front of her shirt.
With one hand in her pocket and one hand scratching her head, she looked ill at ease. After a few seconds of hesitation, she called out to Harvest Song with feigned anger. “Why did you ask me to be here?”
Harvest Song didn’t turn around. She patted on the concrete floor beside her. “Sit.”
“And I should just sit?” Canary growled. “I’m not your dog!”
“The sunset is beautiful,” Harvest Song said simply. “Let's watch it together.”
Canary faltered. She had thought Harvest Song asked her here to have an argument, but it didn’t seem to be the case. Softening, she huffed and said, “Then we will! I’m not afraid of you!”
She bounded over and dropped down beside Harvest Song.
The crimson sun bathed both girls in its warm light. A gentle breeze played with their hair and rustled the reflection in their eyes, the beautiful scenery smoothing the tension in their minds.
Harvest Song broke the silence, “Do you hate me, Canny?”
Canary blinked in surprise. Then she put on a scowl. “Of course! I’ve always found you annoying! And don’t call me Canny. We aren’t that close!”
“Why?” Harvest Song said calmly. “Because you have feelings for Captain Goldthread as well?”
