The Creatures That We Are-Chapter 1219: Result of Calculation
Chapter 1219: Result of Calculation
“Baili Yi” opened his eyes. A look of confusion flashed across his face. He didn’t know why he was here. He seemed to have lost part of his memory.
Without giving him a chance to think, Gao Yang said, “We’re going to fight Pride, Baili.”
“Baili Yi” looked out of the barrier.
“Have you calculated the endings?” Gao Yang asked.
“Baili Yi” said nothing.
Gao Yang pressed, “You don’t have to tell me the results. Just tell me: have you made the calculations?”
“Baili Yi” nodded. “Of course I—” He paused, realizing that he didn’t remember the results. That didn’t make sense. He wouldn’t have forgotten something that important. He immediately sat down with his legs crossed, closing his eyes.
Energy rose and swirled around him as the Chessboard of Causality emerged in his mind. His eyelids twitched with his eyeballs darting around at high speed, a physical sign of the quick calculations going on in his head.
Move.
Retract.
Move.
Retract.
Half a minute later, “Baili Yi” opened his eyes with a look of fleeting surprise. He seemed to have finished calculating.
“Hong Xiaoxiao,” Gao Yang called out.
“Time Reset!” Hong Xiaoxiao moved without delay. They couldn’t afford it.
With NPC forcibly terminated, Baili Yi turned back to Tang Xiaocong. Gao Yang gave One Stone a pointed look. She hurried to inject Tang Xiaocong with emergency medicine and Condition.
“Ugh...”
Tang Xiaocong, who should’ve stayed unconscious for a few minutes at the least, recovered in thirty seconds. Then Gao Yang turned to Dr. Jia.
The man placed his hand on Tang Xiaocong’s head, using Memory Tailor.
“President Ear!” Sun Hu called out worriedly. “How are you feeling? You alright?”
“My head...dizzy...”
“Tang Xiaocong, you just turned into Baili Yi and did a calculation,” Liao Liao said. “Do you remember?”
Tang Xiaocong frowned and thought back to it. “I...remember nothing...”
“Then don’t try. We have our answer.” Dr. Jia rose to his feet. “I take back my suggestion, Gao Yang. Let’s fight together.”
“Haha!” Zhang Wei lit up. “I knew you would—” He stopped himself when he noticed the grim look on Dr. Jia’s face.
Shoulders sagged, Dr. Jia scratched his thinning hair. “There’s little to no memory left, only feelings. Pessimistic ones. But overall, there’s an inclination for everyone to fight together.”
“What do you mean?” Zhang Wei actually understood what Dr. Jia meant, but he would rather not have.
“I mean it literally. Based on my interpretation...” Dr. Jia paused. “Forget it. I won’t go into it.”
The air seemed to freeze at that moment. Even the parrot always seeking excitement was silent. They turned to Gao Yang’s slim straight back. The young man looked lonely as he looked outside.
A few seconds later, Gao Yang raised his right hand.
Golden lotuses bloomed across the Absolute Barrier like a quaint screen, providing them with cover. It was to prevent Pride from reading their lips—even though Pride most likely would have found that beneath him.
Gao Yang turned around, his eyes cold and emotionless.
“We have ten minutes to strategize.”
...
The weathered yet grandiose palace reached toward the white moon in the night sky like a crimson hand tearing the land open, its fervor frozen into failure before reaching fruition. Atop the elevated platform, a dark red heart thumped. The blond man lounging on the throne before the heart waited patiently.
When the Absolute Barrier on the clearing shattered into radiant golden snow, a black-haired man wearing a blood-stained jacket stood alone, his companions gone.
Gao Yang looked up at Wang Zikai. “I’ll duel you.”
“Good,” Wang Zikai said approvingly. “That’s the Gao Yang I know.”
He stood up with a hand still in his pocket. He snapped his fingers.
The throne and the dark red heart vanished without warning, while Wang Zikai’s blond hair became more radiant and sparkling. His eyes were now covered in intricate golden patterns.
“Ready, Gao Yang?”
Gao Yang nodded. “Let’s get started.”
“No rush.” Wang Zikai was about to reach into his pocket when he stopped. “Wait, your eyes look wrong.”
His smile faded, leaving a deep disappointment in his eyes.
The next moment, Gao Yang’s replicated Deception triggered.
It did rule-based damage on Wang Zikai. While negligible, it did distract him for a split second. That was enough for Gao Yang to Flash Shadow to him and grapple him.
Absolute—
Gao Yang planned to trap Wang Zikai with Absolute Barrier in order to create a chance for the others to attack, which was the strategy they had employed in the fabricated sweet dream of victory where they killed Qilin.
That was a naive plan.
Deception and Teleportation did buy some time, but Absolute Barrier, taking one second to form, was too slow.
Wang Zikai unleashed a wave of energy, throwing Gao Yang off his feet. He didn’t even have to move to break Gao Yang’s hold. If not for the Golden Armor Gao Yang had put on in advance, his internal organs would’ve been shattered—and his Endurance was close to 4000.
Like a cannonball, Gao Yang crashed through three stone pillars in a row, yet he was still flying back.
Wang Zikai caught up.
