The Devil's Good Girl-Chapter 215: So, please, give him a chance.
Chapter 215: So, please, give him a chance.
If Fil didn’t know there was this strange tension between her and Elise, she would’ve joked about Elise turning into a new leaf. This was the third time Elise arrived before her. But alas, Fil just greeted Elise, good morning and the latter respectively replied with a short greeting.
’I’m starting to dislike this setup,’ thought Fil, busying herself with some of the files she had to review before they left for the site.
Checking the time, Fil was a little surprised that it was already ten in the morning. She glanced at Kenzo’s desk, frowning upon seeing he wasn’t there.
’We’re leaving in one hour, but he still hasn’t arrived.’ Fil intuitively grabbed her phone to call Kenzo. ’Is he okay?’
There was never a time Fil had ever seen Kenzo come in late. Unless he had to do something very important, then he would have said so. The call just rang until it redirected her to voice mail.
"Ken, we have a site visit at noon. Is everything okay? Call me back if you can’t make it."
Gazing down at her phone, her heart swelled with worry. After yesterday’s accident, Fil couldn’t deny it affected her one way or another. If not for Jackson, she would probably be a lot more distracted and out of it. She wouldn’t be surprised if Kenzo felt the same.
With that thought in mind, Fil left a separate message to Kenzo in case he didn’t check his voicemails.
’Also, he took home Quentin with him yesterday,’ she thought. ’I wonder what’s wrong?’
Fil sighed, telling herself not to worry too much. It wasn’t like she was worried Kenzo was robbed last night or was murdered.
She resumed her work to pass the time, but waiting had always been proven to make time feel slow. Instead of letting herself be immersed in her work, she would find herself constantly checking the time. She didn’t know why she felt very anxious, but there was something since this morning that felt just wrong.
It was strange and something she couldn’t explain with words. But her gut feeling told her it might’ve been a better idea if she called in sick.
’I should bother him until he picks up.’ Again, Fill reached for her phone to call Kenzo. But before she could do so, Elise suddenly spun her chair and faced her.
"Fil, can we talk?"
Slowly, Fil looked up at Elise and nodded. "Sure."
"Not here." Elise huffed, her eyes blazing with determination. "I want to talk to you privately."
Fil assessed Elise’s expression before she mentally sighed. By the looks of it, Elise was finally ready to talk. Hence, she offered her a smile and put off calling Kenzo later. It was about time for the two of them to talk since Fil felt a little dispirited just by seeing Elise become so depressed.

Since Fil already had an idea of what Elise wanted to talk about, they chose to have their discussion on the rooftop. But before she could go, Fil had to drop by Olivia’s office to tell her that Kenzo might not make it. Thus, she bought some coffee on the way since today was a little chilly.
When she arrived, she caught Elise standing by the railing with her eyes cast far away.
"Coffee?" was her icebreaker, smiling as Elise turned her head to her. "Here. Today’s a little chilly, don’t you think?"
"Thanks." Elise held the cup with both her hands, resting them on the flat surface in front of her.
"Elise —"
"Marcus broke up with me last night," announced Elise before Fil could say anything.
"Oh..." Fil pursed her lips, observing Elise’s side profile.
Tears attempted to escape Elise’s eyes, but she tried her best to keep a brave front. Even so, Fil felt sorry for her.
"I’m sorry to hear that, Elise," Fil whispered. ’Even though I know she will get hurt, and this conversation is about this, I still find myself clueless on what to respond properly.’
"He said he doesn’t like me." Elise bit her quivering lips, lowering her eyes to hide the pain in them. "Not even for a second."
’That bastard...’ Fil mentally hissed, but then again, she knew it was for the better. ’By this, he won’t be able to slither his way back to her life.’
"And he also said everything he said was true and all of his actions were also true," Elise continued, and this time, Fil didn’t conceal her disapproval.
"Elise, you believed that? He just told you that he didn’t like you even for a second. How can you believe that everything he said and did is true?"
Elise mustered the courage to face Fil and smiled bitterly. "His actions and words are true, but those things aren’t for me."
What?
"They’re the things he wanted to do for you and say to you." This time, the tears she was holding back so bravely streamed down her face. "Fil, will you go out with him?"
What?!
’Is this his way of making things right?’ was the first question that came across Fil’s mind. ’Did he ask Elise to say this to me? Hah!’
Nothing should surprise Fil anymore, considering she was aware of what Marcus could do. But this was just way too below.
"Elise, did he ask you to convince me to go out with him?"
Elise shook her head, wiping her face with the back of her hands. "I just thought that he was telling the truth. I know it’s bad that he approached me with ulterior motives, but I can understand him. He likes you so much and if there’s anything he could do to make him closer, then he would do it."
"Elise..."
"What he said... what he did... it makes me angry because I fell for it, thinking they were for me." Elise balled her hands into a tight fist. "But what makes me even angrier is that I blame you for it when I know you’re not the one at fault."
"You’re pretty, smart, and successful," she continued. Her heart felt like it was being pierced. "I saw him pick you up the other day, and the smile on his face is different. The way he looked at you is different as well. I know because I looked at him the same way. He’s in love with you and I know he will treat you right — give you the love you deserve. So please... give him a chance."
Oh, Elise.
Hearing all of that broke Fil’s heart more than the news that Elise was crying over a breakup. At the same time, it put her heart at ease, knowing Elise was worth fighting for.
"Come here." Fil narrowed the distance between them, pulling Elise into her embrace. "I’m sorry this happened, Elise. I’m really sorry."
