Chapter 221: Nonchalance

"I say hey, you say hoe! Heeey!!"

"Hoe!!"

"Hey!!"

"Hoe!"

Anton’s face scrunched up, watching this fiasco unfold from the VIP section on the second floor of the nightclub.

"What in the world is wrong with him?" Anton shook his head, watching Michael go crazy on the stage. "It’s not even his birthday, but he’s throwing a party like it is."

Marianne chuckled, watching Michael lead the crowd who were now chanting his name as if he was some sort of a hero. "You know him. When he throws a party, it’s a party. It’s not Michael if it’s not wild. Besides, it’s been a while since we had such a night. Do you remember the last time we gathered like this?"

"Well." Anton cocked his head back, thinking of the past few months. His face crumpled in dismay as soon as he realized he had been working so tirelessly. Even when he had the time, he would barely hang out with Michael.

"Damn." Anton scoffed in disbelief. "I’ve been a slave all this time."

"Haha. It’s called adulting." Marianne smirked as she leaned back. "Now that I think about it, I haven’t seen you for a long time, Anton. I sort of missed you."

"Well, I don’t." Anton shrugged as he chugged his drink. "I’m too busy missing Fil."

She laughed. "Why would you miss her?"

"Because Fil is my friend? And she suddenly disappears." He blinked innocently. "Am I not allowed to miss my good friend?"

"You can, but not for long."

"Huh?"

"Fil is coming tonight, or so I heard." Marianne cocked her head to the side. "I heard Michael invited her. She told me."

"What?!" Anton gasped in disbelief. "How did Michael know?"

She shrugged. "She only said she bumped into him."

"Wow! Just wow!" Anton frowned deeply, looking at Marianne with judgment. "Anne, are you trying to monopolize Fil?"

"Monopolizing her is a stretch."

"No offense, but don’t you feel awkward? Or even the slightest shame?" he asked out of pure curiosity. "I mean, how can you smile in front of her, knowing what you were doing behind her back?"

"Used to do," she corrected. "Vincent and I broke up."

"Still."

"Anton, are you just going to unearth some things that were already buried?" she arched a brow. "If so, you can enjoy yourself all alone."

Anton clicked his tongue as he glanced at the railing, only to lean back on the lounging seat comfortably. "I guess I’m really getting older. Back then, I would join Michael in there, but I’m just too tired to do anything."

"I’m surprised you still made it."

"If only you saw the look on his face, you’d have no choice," he mumbled. "I also realized it’s been a while since I went to this type of party. So, it’s not that bad. Anyway, is it just the two of us?"

"I said Fil is coming." Marianne shrugged. "Though, I’m not that sure. You know her. She hates these types of places."

"If Fil is coming... and Vincent is coming too..!" Anton gasped. "If those two meet... is it gonna be a disaster?"

Marianne chuckled in amusement. "Why would it be a disaster?"

"Come on, Anne." Anton clicked his tongue. "Those two are in a relationship for a long time and then they broke up because Vincent screwed it up. You know what? You are to blame, too! If not because of your affair, Vincent won’t be that paranoid."

"They broke up because Vincent let his guilt overwhelm him, and not because she found out about our affair," Marianne rationalized playfully. "So, I don’t feel the need to feel any sense of guilt. Not to mention what Vincent and I had was nothing but a contractual setup. No strings attached."

Anton narrowed his eyes. "Would it be okay if you and Vincent meet?"

"I don’t have a problem." The air of nonchalance and confidence exuded from her. "We parted on good terms. It’s a mutual decision."

"You don’t sleep together anymore? Even on some special occasions?"

"Nope." Marianne smiled. freёweɓnovel.com

"Are you sure?"

"Well." She swirled her drink as she pondered. "We hadn’t slept together since we parted, but who knows? For fun. He’s good. I give that to him."

Disgust shone in Anton’s eyes, watching Marianne take a drink. To be honest, Anton could never deny that Marianne fit their group like a glove. He was still unsure if that was a good thing or not, but it was a great reminder to him not to mess with her.

"You two are early."

Suddenly, Vincent’s voice reached Marianne and Anton. They turned their heads, their eyes falling on Vincent’s figure.

"Handsome," Marianne commented, but all she earned from Vincent was an indifferent glance.

"Oopsie." Anton whistled teasingly, casting Marianne a look. "Vin, I was just asking Marianne if you two hadn’t slept together on special occasions. She said —"

"I said what, Anton?" She arched a brow while Anton bit his tongue.

’Shit!’ Anton cleared his throat, reminding himself not to rub Marianne the wrong way. "Nevermind. Vincent, I thought you were busy. I didn’t expect you to be here!"

Vincent plopped his butt down on the lounging seat and darted his eyes between the two. He didn’t look at Marianne that long as he spread his arm over the backrest.

"I also thought I wouldn’t come," he said lazily. "But I thought a party would get rid of some things off of my mind."

"Company problems?"

How long had they been friends? Vincent looked at Anton with mild disappointment. As far as he remembered, he never shared or showed that company problems affected him. He didn’t show it before when the pressure on the newly elected director Hale was high. What made Anton think Vincent would show a vulnerable side of him now?

"Fil," he said as he reached for the bottle to pour himself a glass. "I saw her, and I realized I still like her."

Anton whistled and intuitively cast Marianne a look. The latter rolled her eyes at him.

"Don’t be so dejected, man," Anton consoled half-heartedly. "If you feel sad tonight, I heard Marianne is available."

"Anton, are you crazy?" Marianne hissed, but her face stiffened when Vincent spoke with nonchalance.

"What Anne and I had is a thing in the past." Vincent leaned back, looking at Marianne without any affection whatsoever. "It was fun till it lasted, but I’d rather spend a night with a stranger than her."

"Ouch!" Anton bit his tongue, checking Marianne’s expression. Just one glance and he could tell Marianne seemed a little surprised at Vincent’s nonchalance toward her. Who wouldn’t? Vincent was acting just like how he treated her before their affair.

"Don’t take it to the heart, Anne." Vincent lazily snapped his eyes to Marianne. "You know the reason why I said that."

Marianne forced a smile as she nodded. "Of course. I am Fil’s best friend."

"Exactly. If Fil heard I’m seeing her best friend, she’s never gonna see me as a potential suitor." Vincent reasoned out, talking as if his relationship with Marianne was so easy to throw away. "Anyway, enough about our dirty past. How are you guys?"

"The same." Marianne pursed her lips and smiled while Anton giddily shared his work. For some reason, Vincent listened to Anton giddily.

’Why...’ wondered Marianne, her eyes fixed on Vincent’s side profile. ’... is he acting as if what we had is completely nothing?’
