The Devil's Good Girl-Chapter 241: Child of the Devil
Chapter 241: Child of the Devil
Fil had been feeling lethargic since a few nights ago. Rubbing her shoulder while stretching her neck, a frown couldn’t help but show on her face.
"Are you okay?" seated beside her on the first class flight, Jackson’s eyes brimmed with worry.
She smiled at him and nodded. "Mhm. It’s probably just the files I have to review. It’s been giving me a headache."
"Why don’t you set those papers aside and rest?" Jackson reached for the printouts in her hand and put them away. "You’ve been reviewing all of these during your off."
"It’s not called days off, Jack. I was given that time to review these documents, so I am ready once I start again," she corrected while letting him move up the blanket over her shoulder. "So warm. This is nice."
"It would be if I pulled up this partition between us."
A giggle slipped past her closed lips, watching him take off the partition between them. Fil hurriedly squeezed herself to his side and his impossible warmth immediately cradled her.
"So nice," she whispered. She didn’t know why she suddenly felt so heavy and sleepy now that she was in his arms.
"Just rest." Jackson placed a kiss on top of her head. "This is a twelve-hour flight. It’s best if you use this time to rest."
Her lips curled up. There was always something in his voice she found soothing and relaxing. His presence always made her safe, knowing she would wake up and he would still be there for him.
"You sleep too," she murmured as she slowly drifted to her slumber. "Don’t stay up too long, Jack."
"I will not."
Jackson rubbed her shoulders, keeping his lips on top of her head. It only took a few blinks for Fil’s heavy breaths to be heard.
That night he woke up in the middle of the night and caught her sleeping with her eyes open, Fil had been a bit passive. Although there was nothing unusual than her constant complaint of feeling under the weather, it wasn’t the only time she woke up in the middle of sleep just to stare blankly at the ceiling.
Just then, his phone vibrated.
"Did you find him?" was the first question that came out of his mouth the moment the line connected.
"No," Kim’s voice came through. "As irritating as it is, we haven’t."
Jackson’s jaw tightened as he gripped the phone. "Why is it this time, you’re having a hard time finding a goddamn —" he clenched his teeth as his voice started to rise. "... Kim, I can’t let him ruin this again."
"I know, Jack." Kim’s voice was laced with repressed anger. The usual disdain she carried whenever she talked to him was out of the picture. "I wanted to find him just as much as you do, and you know that. He took away my mother."
Silence filled the line for a moment.
"Sorry," Jackson whispered as he calmed down.
"Is there something else happening, Jack?" Kim asked. "You won’t be like that just because you know Quentin is on the loose. There must be something else."
There was.
Jackson hesitated to tell it to Kim, knowing she would only worry about Fil. But he knew he had to in case his assumptions were correct.
"I think... she’s regaining her memories," he answered in a quiet voice.
Again, silence filled the call before Kim’s airy voice was heard. "What do you mean by memories? Which one in those twenty-one lifetimes?"
"The first one."
"How?"
"I don’t know, Kim." Jackson massaged the upper part of his eyebrows. "But what I know is I need to deal with him."
"You can’t leave Fil with him on the loose."
"But no one else can find him faster than I can."
"And no one can protect her from him other than you."
Jackson clenched his teeth again. It would be nice to split himself right now to do two different things at once. However, Jackson knew he had to pick which one was the most important.
"Dustin will wait for you once you land," Kim spoke again after some time. "You can do things freely for a short time and he’ll keep watch. He’ll find a way to stop whatever memories are tempting to make their way to her. I’ll focus on my search."
"Do you need any help?"
"You already sent half of your people to find him. That’s leaving your home half unguarded," Kim remarked, reminding Jackson he was leaving himself vulnerable just to find Quentin. "Don’t forget the council and Alamo might’ve let you in, but they will take you down if a chance ever arises."
Having said that, Kim ended the call.
Kim huffed as she put down her phone, gazing at the window on her side in the backseat of a van.
"Damn it!" she hissed, stopping the urge to punch the window. "That bastard Quentin... how dare he wake up this time of all time?"
Her teeth clenched as her pair of azure eyes shone brightly in gold. The veins in her jaw protruded angrily, thinking of what Jackson had told her just now. If there was one memory that Kim wanted Fil to remember, that would be her first life. However, it was also the memory she feared Fil would remember.
By then, Fil would remember all the pain she had gone through and what she did that was slowly catching up even in this lifetime.
No amount of fame, wealth, and influence they had in the human world could ever fix it once it happened.
"I’ll kill him," she whispered with more conviction. "Even if that means... she will never live again."

Jackson slowly put down the phone and sighed. He gazed at Fil, who was sleeping so comfortably in his arms.
Kim didn’t need to remind him how and why Jackson was bound with the council and the man, Alamo. He knew and had never forgotten about it. After all, his life was a product of a powerful curse cast by a powerful individual who was also known as the child of the devil. freewēbnoveℓ.com
