The Devil's Good Girl-Chapter 249: Kim’s dead?
Chapter 249: Kim’s dead?
"Ready?" Jackson held their bedroom door, gazing at his soon-to-be wife fixing some of her things in her back. "We have a plane to catch, darling."
Fil turned to him and picked up her bag. "Sorry about that. Just making sure I’m not leaving anything behind," she explained as she advanced in his direction.
"It’s okay." He understood. "Let’s go?"
"Yup!" Fil clasped his hand, ready to return to the country to meet with her parents before the wedding.
The couple had two weeks before the big day. Hence, the two wanted to spend time with her parents because he told her he didn’t have his. Jackson also wanted Irene to help with the wedding preparations as an excuse for the mother and daughter to bond. freēwēbnovel.com
They left the penthouse they had been living in for the past months, hand in hand, Fil suddenly stopped. Her smile vanished, slowly clasping her chest.
"Is everything okay?" he asked, assessing the sudden paleness on her face.
Fil sported a faint smile. "Yes, it’s nothin — ouch!"
This time, she felt this sharp pain in her chest. She couldn’t take it as "nothing" anymore, clenching her teeth as she felt another sharp pain piercing through her chest.
"Fil!" Panicking, Jackson held both her shoulders. "What’s wrong, sweetheart?"
His eyes shook, seeing her wincing while clasping her chest. She was fine a moment ago, wasn’t she?
"Ah!" another sharp shrill escaped Fil, clasping Jackson on instinct for assistance. "Ah!! It hurts — Jack!"
"Fil!!" Jackson quickly reached for his phone to call for help, giving clear but brief instructions. He held Fil in his arms, his entire body shaking in horror. He didn’t know what could hurt her this much out of the blue.
"Jack..." Fil barely had any strength only after four minutes of pain. Aside from the sharp chest pain, her head felt cloudy, making her nauseous. Her limbs felt weak and her vision was blurry.
"It hurts..." she whispered as her consciousness slowly slipped away from her hold.
"Fil!" Jackson held her securely, watching her slowly lose consciousness. "Fil —"
"Kim... rald...:
Upon hearing the last whisper that slipped past her lips, Jackson’s entire body froze. His eyes dilated and his anxiety tugged the strings of his heart. He gulped nervously, shaking his head and carrying Fil back to the bed.
At the same time, help arrived to check on her vitals.
Fil was only human and thus, professional medical help should be helpful. However, the doctors who came in didn’t know what was wrong with her. Her vitals were stable, and so was the sound of her heart. Thus, they could only conclude with fatigue. They also wanted to test her for pregnancy as it could be a factor too.
However, Jackson knew that wasn’t the case.
When the doctors left the room to let Fil rest, Jackson remained beside the bed. Fil’s complexion was still pale and her hands were still cold.
"Kimerald," he muttered, his eyes brimming with worry. "She did say that."
His hold on her hand was gentle and caring, but the look in his eyes was brooding. His troubled expression slowly turned dark because there were only two people who called Kim by that name. One was Dustin and the other one was...Latrice.
Even Jackson never called Kim by that name because it meant a lot of things for the woman. It was a name given by Latrice, and so Kim held onto it with great importance.
"This never happened before," he whispered while staring at Fil.
Jackson had a scary idea of why Fil suddenly fell in pain. However, all he wanted to do with the idea was deny it.
Suddenly, his phone rang.
"Jackson." the voice from the other end of the line was Dustin. "Where is Kim?"
Jackson’s silence warranted an angry roar from the end of the line.
"Where the hell is my sister?!"
Jackson gripped the phone, assuming the reason for Dustin’s call. Dustin and Kim were twins. The two of them had a special bond together. If Fil’s pain had anything to do with Kim, Dustin must’ve sensed something went terribly wrong with Kim.
"She went to confront Quentin," was all he could say before the line suddenly fell into a morbid silence.
"You sent her all alone?" Dustin asked after what felt like forever. "Just her?"
Jackson cast his eyes down.
He knew Kim was capable and strong. Even in a one-on-one showdown with Jackson, she was able to hold her ground. Although she never defeated him, she regularly cinched a draw.
How could she lose against Quentin?
The two of them were an equal match. It was why Jackson agreed to let her take charge while he stayed with Fil, knowing the chances of Quentin going to her were high.
"You..." Dustin’s voice sounded repressed. "... how about my mother? Is she alright?"
"We were on our way out when she suddenly felt a sharp pain in her chest," Jackson explained quietly. "She’s unconscious."
"Damn it!" Dustin grumbled. "I’ll go see her!"
With that being said, Dustin hung up on him.
Jackson slowly put his phone down, eyes still on Fil. He knew Dustin and Kim weren’t Latrice’s biological children. Those two were said to be human children who were meant to die in a plague-stricken town many years ago. The only reason they had outlived countless eras and seasons was because of Latrice.
They mentioned it in passing, but none of them dwelled on it.
Now that Fil was in pain to the point of unconsciousness, Jackson was reminded of that again.
"Does that mean..." Jackson breathed out, his jaw tightening as he had no other choice but to accept the idea he had denied not long ago. "Kim’s dead?"
He clenched his fist as the fire in his heart blazed to the impossible. He and Kim might’ve fought at every turn, but she was an important person in his life. The idea of sending her to her death... almost suffocated him.
But before Jackson could think of any reckless move, Fil started murmuring. Deep lines appeared between his brows, moving closer to hear her whispers properly.
"Don’t..." she whispered in great discomfort. "... cry ... Kim... I.. for you."
Jackson slowly drew his head back, watching her murmur as if she was having a nightmare.
