Chapter 254: Sickening

Not many would understand Felix and, although there was no excuse, Raul couldn’t help but think it was the right decision. With all the death threats at Felix at that time on top of his wife’s threats, his innocent little child would’ve been in great danger.

Raul sighed deeply once again, feeling sorry for the chairman.

’Now that he is at this point in his life, he thinks he should’ve fought for her,’ he thought. ’But Miss Filomena already sees him as her ex-fiance’s grandfather. No one knows how she will take it if she finds out the chairman was actually her father.’

Raul was torn, knowing this was very complicated.

On one hand, he understood that the chairman wanted to leave all his wealth to his only child. On the other hand, it would complicate Fil’s life. After all, even if they conceal the truth, doubt would rise and questions would quickly follow.

’Whatever the answer was... I don’t want to know for now.’ Raul fixed the blanket and rose from his seat.

He quietly bowed to the chairman and walked away. But as soon as he opened the door, he flinched when Vincent was standing right outside.

"Director Hale," Raul awkwardly called. "What are you...?"

"I heard he had another attack today," said Vincent with a grim tone, lifting his slightly sunken eyes. "I’m here to check up on him."

Raul forced a smile, feeling this inexplicable uneasiness in his heart. "It’s not an attack, Director Hale. The Chairman is fine."

"Is that so?" Vincent rocked his head, took a step forward, and then stopped. "Secretary Ma, why are you blocking my way?"

"Uh. Apologies." Raul quickly stepped to the side, about to say something, when Vincent went inside without wasting another breath.

Raul pressed his lips, a little worried, as he stared at the door. For some reason, Vincent has been giving him a feeling of unease. He understood Vincent had a lot of problems right now, but there was just something odd about him lately.

"I’m probably just overthinking it," he told himself, gazing at the door for a moment before he left.

Inside the private ward, Vincent sat down on the chair beside the bed. His eyes barely glossed over the chairman before he closed them.

’My head hurts...’ he told himself while massaging his forehead. "Ugh —"

"Rebecca."

Vincent peeked through one of his eyes when he heard a faint and weak whisper from his grandfather. His jaw tightened, displeased about it.

"He’s still calling that name... even when he knows his grandson is in a tight spot," he grumbled, standing from his seat and looking down at his grandfather. But as he did, he caught a small piece of picture peeking out from underneath the side of the pillow.

Vincent furrowed his brows and carefully reached for it. Straightening his back, he held the old photograph in front of him. He clenched his teeth, his thumb creating creases on the end of the photograph.

’Rebecca.’

Bitterness swirled in his eyes as they fell on the sleeping Felix Hale. ’You and Rebecca... it’s all your fault.’

Vincent had the urge to crumple the piece of a photograph or burn it. However, this was Felix’s treasure. If it went missing, there was a high chance his grandfather would find out who stole it. Once they did, they would also figure out that Vincent knew Felix’s sneaky little secret.

"Hah." Vincent plopped his butt down on the chair, enduring a sharp headache as he gazed at the old man on the bed. "You should just die."

This was what Vincent meant when he said the failure of his relationship with Fil was Felix’s fault.

Felix should’ve died early and didn’t let Vincent find out about the truth. If only Felix died many years ago, Vincent would’ve foolishly and ignorantly married Fil with all his heart. But alas, Vincent found out about it and thus, it made him sick.

How could Vincent marry his own aunt?

But he already loved Fil so deeply that the truth was beyond frustrating.

Felix knew this and yet, he was supportive of that engagement. He knew Fil’s real parentage and yet, he wanted his own grandson to marry his daughter.

Wasn’t that sickening?

"Damn. I hate you." Vincent pinched the bridge of his nose, glaring at his sleeping grandfather with murderous intent. "She’s no longer with me. So, you better forget about her too. I can’t be with the woman I love, but that also means you can’t be with your daughter. Even until the very end, Grandpa, I’ll never let you see her shadow."

Back to the resort.

"Eli, is everything okay?" Fil asked, noticing that Elijah had been quiet throughout the dinner.

Her voice brought Elijah back from his trance. "Ah."

"Eli is probably just wishing his brother-in-law was here," Irene humored, knowing how fond Elijah was to Jackson.

Simon laughed and nodded in agreement. "Don’t worry, Eli. Your big brother-in-law will have plenty of time with you once he returns. Or maybe not! He’ll be busy trying to give us a grandchild! Haha!"

"Dad!" Fil laughed awkwardly, not used to her parents saying stuff like this one.

"Oh, Simon, you’re making our little Fil embarrassed." Irene couldn’t help but giggle. "Don’t be nervous, Fil. The first night might be a little scary, but I know Jack will take care of it."

Fil almost choked on her own breath upon hearing her mother’s comment. They had no idea their first night had long been gone, and they were already on the next book of the Kamasutra.

"Wew." Elijah whistled, earning a look from his family. "Sis, you’ve been living under the same roof as my brother-in-law. I’m not saying anything bad, but are you sure you hadn’t jumped him?"

"Eli!" This time, Irene and Fil gasped in disbelief while Simon could only laugh out loud.

"Haha! That’s right. Jackson is so handsome! I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s the one who was scared for his life every night!"

Fil sighed in defeat while Irene shook her head. But then again, Fil couldn’t blame them. Jackson was truly a beauty like no other. Fil was still in disbelief that a man like him had fallen so deep in love with her.

As the family continued with their usual dinner, Dustin stood on the side of the garden where the family was enjoying the meal.

’I wonder if Jackson already found him?’ Dustin wondered with deep worry in his heart. ’This family is waiting for him. He better not make her cry before her wedding.’
