Chapter 257: Horror

The next day, the Lovin Family enjoyed the other amenities of the resort. It had been a while since they truly enjoyed a day with just them. The couple couldn’t even remember the last time they took their children out as they grew up so quickly.

While they were enjoying their time, they didn’t know Jackson had already arrived.

Dustin had been waiting for him in the lobby. The moment he saw Jackson, he briskly made his way to him.

"Did you get it done?" Dustin walked beside him. "Did you?"

Jackson smoothly twirled and faced him, his hand raised between them. "Dustin, did you do what I told you to do?"

"Yes." Dustin nodded. "I did see some blood link between her family and Quentin. It’s a faint connection."

"A spell?"

There were only two types of blood links Jackson was aware of. One of them was through a spell. Quentin was a witch’s descent and also a human turned vampire, making him a complicated enemy and a troublesome one.

Dustin nodded. "Yes. It’s a spell triggered by drinking their blood."

Hearing this, Jackson’s jaw tightened.

"What’s with that look?" Dustin grew a little worried. "What happened? Don’t tell me you didn’t kill him? Again?"

Thinking of how many times Jackson let Quentin off the hook in the past almost engulfed Dustin with fury. Quentin already ended Kim! Letting Quentin live would not only let Kim’s murderer get away but also, it would jeopardize Fil’s future.

"No, it’s not like that." Jackson’s eyes shone with determination. "I think..."

He paused, glancing at their surroundings in case someone was listening.

"They can’t hear it," Dustin reassured. "Even if they did, they would only hear a different conversation. Or they would forget about it as if they didn’t hear it in the first place."

Jackson set his eyes back to Dustin, a little amused by how Dustin’s incantation had been more effective and efficient. It had been a while since he practiced.

"What’s going on?" Dustin inquired. "What happened?"

"I think Kim’s still alive."

"What? Are you sure?!"

Jackson nodded while Dustin’s eyes lit up. But his relief was short-lived when he clasped his chest, but couldn’t feel Kim’s life force.

"Why can’t I feel her, then?"

"I don’t know, but what I think is he’s using Kim for something else," Jackson guessed in a grim tone. "Moreover, I met Quentin, but when I killed him, the body was shallow. Is it possible for him to get into a new host?"

"Soul swapping?" Dustin frowned. "No, that’s not possible for him."

"Are you sure about this?"

This time, hesitation flickered in Dustin’s eyes before he said, "No, it’s not possible. Even if he used Kim, he can’t because that body is his entire talisman that links with Fil."

"What links with me?"

Suddenly, Fil’s voice came from their side.

Jackson and Dustin froze for a second, turning their heads, only to see Fil looking at them curiously.

"Uh." Dustin let out an awkward laugh. "Fil, you’re here! How long have you been here?"

The two had been so immersed in their conversation, they didn’t notice her. But most importantly, Dustin couldn’t help but wonder how Fil heard their conversation. She was human now and she should’ve heard something else or nothing at all.

"Just now while on my way to meet my mom at the spa." Fil tilted her head a little to the side. "Is everything okay? You two seemed a little... Jack, are you okay?"

Jackson quickly sported a smile and walked toward her. "I’m okay," he said, letting his small figure shrink as she hugged him like a bear. "Did you miss me?"

"You bet!" Her feet left the floor as he straightened his back, his arms wrapped around her waist while her arms were around his shoulders. "Is everything okay? Or did things not go as planned?"

From what she knew, Jackson had to rush somewhere because of an emergency. Even though he was retiring, Jackson was still in charge. Emergencies needed his attention.

"It didn’t end just as I expected it, but it’s fine," he reassured her. "I’ll keep working on it."

"Do you need my help?" she offered.

He just smiled. "It’s okay. I can handle it."

"Okay."

"Go and meet Mom. She’s probably waiting for you."

Fil hummed for a moment before her smile stretched. "She’s with dad. I’ll just tell them you already arrived. They will understand."

"Haha. Okay."

Jackson slowly lowered his head until her feet reached the floor. He glanced at Dustin, and the latter understood.

"Right. I forgot I have some calls to make," Dustin offered a friendly smile at the two. "See you around."

"Mhm." Fil tilted her head as she watched Dustin walk away.

"Let’s go, Fil."

But instead of going with Jackson, she squinted at him. "You and Dustin, are you fighting?"

"What?"

"When I saw you two talking earlier, he seemed... livid," she explained, knowing what she had seen.

Dustin might not show it, but she could tell by he was repressing his anger. It was the real reason she approached them, thinking they were fighting.

"There’s something we didn’t agree on, but it’s not big of a deal," Jackson explained while giving her a reassuring look. "Although we rarely argue, but we’ve had our fair share of disagreements. Don’t worry about it. We’ll eventually find a common ground."

Fil quietly studied his expression before she smiled. "Okay."

With that being said, the couple went back to their room. On their way, Fil gave her dad a call and told them about Jackson’s arrival. Knowing Jackson was tired from his trip, the family didn’t bother them so he could rest.

In their room, Fil sat on the chair and waited for Jackson. She already ordered food for him so it could arrive once he finished showering. As she waited, she heard her phone ring.

"Hmm?" Fil picked up her phone from the table, narrowing her eyes as she saw an unfamiliar number. "Who is this?"

Curious about who sent her a message, Fil unhesitatingly opened the message. But the moment she did, a loud shriek escaped her, and she dropped her phone in fear.

In the photo was a person’s hand grabbing a blonde hair. His hand was tainted with blood, and then a pair of azure eyes barely keeping her eyes open.

"Kyah!"
