Chapter 298: Join her in the afterlife

[WARNING: This Chapter contains graphic violence. Proceed with caution.]

"Ma — Marcus?" Michael called after an entire minute of nothing but pure silence.

Just one second ago, Marcus was writhing in pain. But now, Marcus had stopped screaming and moving. Thinking that Marcus was so high, he had lost his mind at the moment didn’t even cross Michael.

All he could feel was this growing horror creeping into his heart.

Holding his pistol tightly, Michael gulped and took a step back. He called Marcus once more, but he still got no response.

Michael backed away as the feeling of dread continued to sprout in his heart. Soon, his other hand touched the knob of his bedroom. As soon as he did, he flinched when Marcus suddenly moved.

The movement was small and slow. Marcus slowly pushed himself up while Michael held his breath for some unknown reason.

"Marcus..." Michael called quietly. "What’s happening? Are you okay?"

Still no answer.

Michael could only watch as Marcus straightened his back. When Marcus turned in his direction, the gauntness of his face was gone. However, the color of his eyes had turned red. Even in this dimness, Marcus’s eyes shone so brightly, like a headlight.

"Marcus..." Michael clasped the knob and the pistol, eyes fixed on Marcus. "If you’re okay now, go. Leave this place before I call for security."

Michael could’ve just used his pistol or shouted. He could’ve reacted differently. But for some reason, all he could do was try and ask Marcus calmly.

Calmly...

No. Michael was asking him to leave out of fear because all the alarm bells in his head told him not to mess with the guy. Whatever made Marcus’s eyes red and whatever made his teeth grow, Michael didn’t want to know. All he knew was that he might be in danger if he made the wrong move.

"Marcus..." Michael’s breath hitched when Marcus suddenly laughed from within him.

"Hihihi!" Marcus ran his fingers through his hair, laughing through his gritted teeth. "Ahh... I’m thirsty... so thirsty..."

When he snapped his eyes at Michael, he couldn’t help but lick his lips.

"Michael, I told you..." Marcus slowly rose to his feet. "I told you to help me. Can you still help? I will forget about everything that you did — I would even tell you what I did to Alicia if you want."

As soon as he mentioned that name, all Michael’s senses paused. "What did you say?"

"Oh. Right. You are discreet about it, are you?" Marcus snickered. "Well, Quentin told me you are Alicia’s brother. I didn’t want to believe it until now that this happened."

What happened?

Michael had no idea of the half of what Marcus was saying. He kept mentioning this person named Quentin, but Michael couldn’t remember anyone in Marcus’s circle, business associates, or even a family member with that name.

Michael investigated all of them to the point it was madness. He could even say he knew them more than they knew themselves. But this name... this was the first time he heard it.

"I don’t know what you’re talking about." Michael sported a brave front and tipped his head. "Get out of my place before I start shooting."

"Alicia, do you want to know where she is?"

"I don’t know anyone named Alicia. Is she my ex-girlfriend?" Michael blurted out, thinking this was Marcus’s way of getting the truth out of him.

At this point, Michael was tempted to indulge with him and ask him about Alicia. After all, all he wanted was to find out where Alicia was and to give her the justice she deserved. However, this was not how he planned it.

"I beat her..." Marcus hissed with an interested smile, watching Michael’s eyes slowly dilate. "She was still breathing and that bitch Shanaiah wants to let her go. How can we let her go when that smart mouth of hers will surely run the moment she gets out of that hotel?"

"What?" Michael’s face paled as he watched that malicious look on Marcus while telling him what he had done to Alicia.

There were no traces of remorse in his eyes. There wasn’t even guilt or shame. It was as though Marcus was telling him a funny story. It was evil.

"She was pleading — haha! Alicia kept saying her brother would avenge her or that he won’t let us go! I thought that bitch is spewing nonsense. Turns out, she wasn’t. Her brother did come running to us, pretending to be our friend, only to turn out he was a snake." Marcus licked his lips. "Do you know where I started to beat her?"

Michael was frozen on the spot, unable to react or even know what to feel at this moment.

"I started with her legs so she wouldn’t be able to run away. She was screaming like crazy it was fucking annoying!" Marcus hissed as if the memories in his head were too vivid he could still hear Alicia’s screams and cries. "So I had to gag her with something. And then, I continued beating her with that baseball bat over and over and over."

The annoyance in Marcus’ eyes disappeared and was replaced by a grin. "Until she’s not screaming anymore. Michael, if only you can understand just how relieving the silence was... it was golden."

BANG!

Without thinking twice, Michael pulled the trigger and shot Marcus in the leg. He pulled the trigger once more before Marcus could even say anything.

"I’ll kill you," Michael blurted out, unblinking as he pulled the trigger once more.

Michael didn’t care anymore how or where he could shoot him. All he could see was red, imagining the pain Alicia went through in this sick psycho’s hands. He would kill him.

"I’ll kill you," he repeated as another bang was heard. "I’ll kill you! You deserve to die! Die! Die, you fucking psycho! Die!"

Michael pulled the trigger over and over and even when there was no more bullet, he tried to pull more. Killing Marcus once wasn’t enough. Even a thousand times wasn’t enough!

All Alicia’s pleading, her screams, her cries, the pain she had to go through while getting beaten to death... it almost choked Michael. All the planning to put these people behind bars, Michael forego the thought of trusting the justice system.

This might put him behind bars, but he didn’t care.

Putting justice in his hands, Michael tossed the pistol and marched to where Marcus was. Marcus already fell to the ground after the third shot. On his way to Marcus, Michael dragged the nearest stand and held it with both his hands.

"Fine," Michael breathed out. "Let’s fucking die together."

Once that slipped past his lips, Michael slammed the stand on Marcus. It broke into a few pieces, but he still used the remaining wood to beat him up. Michael’s mind just went blank and beat the man with all his might. When even the last piece of wood in his hand broke, he knelt down and turned Marcus around.

"You bastard!" Michael raised his hand and threw a jab straight at Marcus’s face. "I’ll kill you today you fucker."

Using his fist, Michael threw it straight at Marcus’s face continuously. His knuckles even turned red until they bled with how fierce his assault was. At this point, he would literally kill Marcus as blood dripped from both Marcus’s face and his knuckles.

"Die! Die! Die —" as Michael threw his umpteenth punch, Marcus suddenly grabbed his wrist. He froze at the strength Marcus still had despite getting beaten up to a pulp.

Marcus’s face was covered with blood. His eyes were swollen. His brow, nose, and even his lips were bleeding profusely. However, he was calm enough to open his swollen eyes and lick his lips.

"I’m very thirsty..." Marcus breathed out. "Now that I confessed, can you help me now, Michael?"

Michael pulled his arm from Marcus, but the man’s grip didn’t budge. "What the..." he trailed off as he caught Marcus’s swollen eyes eased rapidly.

Michael held his breath as he watched the cut on Marcus’s brows close up on its own. The latter’s broken nose also went back into its place. In no time, Marcus’s swollen face turned back to normal. Despite the blood covering his face, Michael was clear-sighted enough to see his face shrink back to normal.

"What the hell?" Michael jumped away and thankfully, Marcus’s grip loosened. He took a few steps back from the latter, watching Marcus sit up while wiping the blood off of his face.

The idea that Marcus turned into a literal monster was something Michael didn’t want to entertain. But with what he just witnessed so far, he couldn’t help but reconsider. After all, he shot Marcus many times, beat him with a wooden stand, and even threw as many punches at him as possible.

Clang.

Suddenly, Michael heard this faint clang. When he glanced at it, he saw a bloody bullet roll away from Marcus’s figure. His confusion was immediately answered when Marcus casually poked the hole in his other leg and took out the bullet from his flesh without any reaction.

Monster...

Michael’s breath hitched when Marcus looked up at him with a wicked grin. Without a word, Michael ran back to his room as fast as he could. But alas, just before he could reach the door, Marcus appeared in front of him.

"Michael." Marcus placed his hands on Michael’s shoulder and smiled. "You love your sister, right? So, you wouldn’t mind if you join her... in the afterlife."
