The Devil's Good Girl-Chapter 319: The End
Chapter 319: The End
At the beginning of time, the world was once peaceful until one of the gods fell from the favor of the heavens. Falling into the lands of the mortals, his heart was stricken with grief and resentment towards the gods whom he believed betrayed him.
The wrath in his heart grew and turned into darkness.
In the land of mortals, he reigned.
He incited war, and conflict, causing chaos and mayhem in all the land. He instilled greed, whispered wickedness in people’s ears, and led them to worship anything but the gods he loathed.
At the peak of his madness and terror, the gods finally had enough. Before he could destroy the world that all the gods created in harmony, they descended to subdue him. But alas, even when the holy war was won, the fallen god was still a step ahead of them.
He left the fruit of the world’s madness and darkness.
A child that was both created by the people the other gods made themselves and the fallen god.
Finally, the fallen god had created something with those who ostracized and ousted him.
This child was meant to die the moment the gods were found. However, even in infancy, neither the gods nor the heaven could touch her. Mainly, because she was created in the world the same gods created. As a natural law of nature, the gods couldn’t destroy what they had made.
As a result, with all their mighty powers, they filled this child that was born out of darkness and despair with light. Although despite all their joint powers, the light they created to seal its darkness was smaller compared to the darkness she was born with.
And just like this, Filomena was born.
A child born out of darkness, but was given a sliver of light to turn her darkness into light.
It was a long and painful journey, but somehow, the terror that might’ve befallen the world was absolved. All because of... a little mercy from the gods, an acceptance of a man’s heart, and the willingness to rewrite what was already set in stone.
"To be loved..." Fil leaned back against the backseat and turned to the driver’s seat. "Jack, do you remember the time when we had to write a bucket list of what we wanted to do or experience?"
Jackson reluctantly looked away from the road and glanced at her. "What about it?"
"You only wrote one back then," she recalled, watching him set his attention on the road. "If I read it in reverse, it’s to be loved."
The corner of his lips curled up into a subtle smile, making the side of his eyes crease. "Your question?"
"Was it you want to be loved? Or...?" She raised her brows, still a little confused about it. "Or me?"
Filomena meant to be loved.
It was the name the gods had given her, thinking that even as a fruit of darkness, she was meant to be loved. Mainly because they didn’t want her darkness to spread. It was a reminder perhaps to people or the light they instilled in her.
"Both," he answered gently with a subtle smile. "I wanted to be loved by you, and at the same time, I want you for me."
Fil pressed her lips together, letting him reach his hand to hold hers. Jackson guided her hand to him, leaning a bit to plant a kiss on the back of her head.
"How come you don’t know that?" he asked, eyes still on the road.
"It’s not that I don’t know it... I’m just confused a bit," she explained as she sheepishly slid her eyes to the corner. "And I want to hear it."
A soft chuckle escaped him, stealing a glance at her before setting his gaze ahead. "We’re almost there."
"Where are you taking me?"
"Somewhere."
"Tell me."
"No."
"Why?"
"Just because." He shrugged. "It’s no fun if you know everything."
Fil frowned, but even so, she didn’t pry more. Instead, she looked forward to what he was planning or where he was taking her.
It wouldn’t be a stretch to say Fil was a god, who walked on the world of the mortals. If she wasn’t a god, she wouldn’t be able to revert the time. No one could ever return even a second no matter how much they wanted to.
She also watched this world from the days of yore to the present, like a god watching their creation move while her own time was frozen in place.
Fil leaned on her side, facing him. He was still holding her hand in between them, resting them on top of the gear shift. Her lips curled up as her eyes softened.
"I’m going to melt if you keep staring," he quipped. "That’s what you told me last night."
She chuckled. "I’m just wondering if you have any other questions."
"Let’s see..." he hummed, thinking if there were still any questions that interested him.
All night last night, Fil and Jackson just talked about anything they could talk about. She mostly asked him how he knew, and what he had been doing since he found out, and questions that were simply silly to ask.
In turn, Jackson also asked a few questions. But compared to the question she had, he only had a few. One of them was: were Kim and Dustin alive? Did they know about what happened? Would they recognize him again?
Those two might not be her biological daughter, but in her heart, they were her own. In Kim and Dustin’s hearts, Fil was their only mother.
After another hour of driving, Jackson pulled over to the seaside.
Fil glanced at him and smiled while Jackson simply shrugged in return. They then walked by the shore, letting the wind blow on their hair, the sound of waves in their ears, bare foot, hand in hand.
"So?" Fil broke the silence between the two of them. "Should I guess why here?"
Jackson hummed as he cocked his head back. "Later."
"Why?"
"Because I want to take a walk," he cast her a meaningful look. "And I want to erase one memory in my mind."
Deep lines appeared between her brows. She knew Jackson inside and out, but now, she felt like there were still many things she didn’t know. He intrigued her. Perhaps, he was doing that on purpose because he knew Fil had known and seen everything this world could offer.
Be it fate or destiny, the waves of the world, the whispers of the winds, she knew everything.
Therefore, Fil indulged with him in small talk. Sometimes, he would mention some other people that were involved with them in the past. He especially took an interest in Alamo and how he was doing.
After a tiring and long walk, the two of them sat by the shore. Using the scarf he brought along with them underneath them, they stared at the horizon. The sun was about to set and the sky was slowly turning orange. The clouds in the sky formed beautifully, as if they wanted the people to stop for a moment to marvel at them.
"How far can you see?" Jackson asked out of pure curiosity, eyes still on the horizon.
Fil smacked her lips and smiled. "Definitely farther than what your eyes cannot."
"When you watched me, do I look small? Or did I look like I was zoomed in?"
"Haha. Jackson, weren’t you a vampire before?" she laughed. "Vampires has the ability to see things farther than a human eye."
Jackson reclined, hands on either side of him. "I couldn’t think of anything to ask or say because I feel like you already knew everything."
"I was like that until last night," she confessed, hugging her knees, and staring at the sunset. "And even this morning, out of nowhere, I don’t think I know what’s gonna happen."
He slid his eyes on her, watching the orange tint of the sunset ray cast upon her face. His eyes shone with affection as he said,
"You hadn’t said I love you," he watched her slowly peel her eyes from the sunset and face him. "I love you, Fil. As Jackson Fitzroy and as Jackson Sisson. I loved you for twenty... twenty-three lifetimes."
Her breath slowed down as her eyes shook a little.
"And even if you revert time or move it forward, I’ll still love you in every name and any body I’d be born in," he continued with a slight smile. "Although you said I am more than your resentment to yourself, I want to hear it."
"I’ve waited for a very long time," he added. "And I’ve lost my patience. So regardless if it was unsafe, I want to hear it. I want to be with you. I want to take the risk. At least, this time, even if I am going to lose my life, I’m not losing a life that was full of sadness and longing."
Fil pursed her lips before they formed into a smile. She slowly crawled her hand to him, slipping her fingers in between the gaps of his.
"If I will regain everything back, I’ll keep turning back the time to this day," she hummed gently, fluttering her eyelashes ever so tenderly. "I love you, Jack. More than twenty-three lifetimes and it will always be the same no matter where you are, what body you’re born in, and what era it would be."
"That’s much better," he chuckled, leaning his face slowly.
With a smile, she closed her eyes and let his lips land on her. The kiss was brief and gentle, but when he parted away and she opened her eyes, he was already holding a ring that was the same one as the one he gave her when he proposed.
"Let’s get married," he said, watching her lift her eyes to him. "This time, I don’t want to take chances. I don’t want to go to hell just because I broke the sanctity of marriage."
Fil chuckled, biting her lips. "You’re really a virgin?"
"Is that a problem?" frёewebnoѵēl.com
"No." She scooted to his side, resting her head on his shoulder. "That makes us two."
He laughed and tossed his head back. When she recovered from laughing, Fil couldn’t help but ask.
"So, why here?"
His brows rose, gazing down at her only to see the curiosity in her eyes. "Well." Jackson cleared his throat. "I kind of peeked into your memories before — when you were Filomena Lovin."
"And?" Fil was confused until she remembered one scenario that was the same as this.
The memory of when Vincent proposed to her!
"Jack!" Fil moved away from him, gasping.
"I want to delete that memory from the both of us," he explained innocently, but she ended up nagging him. "But it was true. You looked so moved in that memory it was annoying."
Jackson slid his eyes away while Fil was in pure disbelief.
Surprisingly, this conversation lasted longer than he expected.
But deep in their hearts, they felt more normal than they had been since the beginning of time. For millennia, Fil had lived a life that was almost impossible to live in as a person. However, this time, she felt just like everybody else.
And for a moment, until he lived, as long as he was with her, she would continue to live just like everybody else.
No one was born evil. They were created.
And in here, Fil had proven to the gods who already judged her before anything else, that regardless of what she was born to be, she was an architect of her own destiny.
And she would continue to live her life the way she should with the love of her life. Forever.
