Chapter 22 -22 Fooling People, She’s Good at It Too
The more Old Mrs. Silva looked at Scarlett Garrison, the more suspicious she became.
“She’s so young, what could she possibly do? Luna, have you been tricked again?”
She said, looking at Mrs. Silva with eyes full of doubt.
Mrs. Silva’s face darkened a bit, “Mom, even though Master Jennings is young, she’s genuinely talented. Please don’t speak carelessly.”
Don’t upset her.
Old Mrs. Silva pursed her lips, not believing that such a young girl could have any real skill.
Just a smooth talker.
So what if Luna is well-educated? She’s still no match for me when it comes to judging people.
Fortunately, she invited other masters beforehand; otherwise, relying on this little girl would be hopeless.
Indeed, this family still depended on her.
The old lady wanted to take down the young girl’s pride, so she looked at Scarlett, “You say you have real skills? Show them then.”
You don’t have to do much, but at least wield a sword like a master, right?
“Mom!” Mrs. Silva was genuinely a bit upset, fearing that the old lady’s attitude might offend Scarlett. She quickly turned to Scarlett and said,
“Master Jennings, I apologize sincerely. Please don’t mind her.”
Scarlett didn’t mind, nodded at Mrs. Silva, and then walked past the old lady and the master who was performing the ritual, heading toward the bed.
From the moment she entered, she noticed Andrea Silva lying on the bed.
No matter how chaotic the room was, she still showed no signs of waking up.
The master had been watching the scene from the corner of his eye since the group entered, but couldn’t stop as he was still “performing a ritual.” He acted as though he was unaffected by the outside world, continuing his act.
It wasn’t until he saw Scarlett walking to the bed that he sharply yelled,
“Don’t come near! You’ll disrupt my magic!”
Scarlett slightly turned her head at his words, just glanced at him, then continued to turn away, pulling Andrea Silva’s hand closer for a detailed look.
Seeing Scarlett disregard his warning, the master immediately showed anger, abruptly stopped the ritual, and turned to Old Mrs. Silva,
“Mrs. Silva! What is going on here? Didn’t I say no interruptions during the ritual?”
Upon hearing this, Old Mrs. Silva also showed discontent and quickly apologized to the master, “Master Loo, I sincerely apologize. I’ll have them leave right away.”
She said as she turned and glared at Scarlett, ready to ask them to leave, but saw Scarlett already releasing Andrea’s hand, turning directly to Master Loo, her clear eyes void of emotion as she simply asked,
“Master Loo, since you’ve set up the altar, I assume you’ve determined what problem Miss Silva has?”
Master Loo just snorted at her question, “Miss Silva attracted a ghost, and I was just trying to drive it away. Yet you ignored my advice and interrupted my spell, allowing the ghost to escape in the chaos!”
The implication was that the failed ritual and Miss Silva’s inability to wake up were entirely her fault.
It had nothing to do with him.
Scarlett chuckled lightly, looking at Master Loo as if she were watching a fraud,
“If you even had a hint of intuition, you’d know there’s nothing evil in this room. Miss Silva’s coma isn’t due to ghostly entanglement but because someone used an evil technique, trying to take her fate.”
Upon hearing Scarlett’s words, Gideon Silva and Mrs. Silva’s faces changed, quickly stepping forward,
“Master Jennings, what evil technique? Is someone after Little Lili’s life?”
Scarlett looked at them and said, “It’s not her life they want; in the Mystical Sect, it’s referred to as borrowing life. I’ve said that Miss Silva has a fortunate fate chart, destined to live a life free of trouble. Because of this, someone wants to borrow her lifespan to extend their own.”
Saying so, she pulled Andrea Silva’s hand over, pointing for them to see a faint red mark on her thumb.
“This vermillion seal on her finger is from someone tricking her into making a fingerprint, thus allowing the other party to borrow her life force.”
As for when she made the seal, it was likely during the ten minutes Mrs. Silva said she disappeared.
Gideon and his wife leaned in to examine, indeed seeing a faint red mark on Andrea’s thumb, which had evidently been wiped. If one didn’t look closely, they wouldn’t notice it.
After Little Lili’s incident, the couple was too worried about finding someone to save their daughter to notice these details.
Old Mrs. Silva, hearing this, remained skeptical but also leaned in to look.
At this moment, Gideon Silva could no longer concern himself with his mother and the other master. His face turned grim as he looked at Scarlett,
“Master, has my daughter’s life been borrowed already? Can we get it back?”
Scarlett looked at him and simply nodded. “Yes.”
Master Loo, watching her effortlessly gain the employers’ trust with mere words, felt dissatisfied and prepared to belittle her, when suddenly, another handsome young man who had entered with the Silva couple moved closer.
He didn’t know when this man had walked to his side, now standing next to him, speaking softly,
“Shut your mouth. Speak another word to my sister, and I’ll ensure you leave the Silva house horizontally.”
The young man’s voice wasn’t loud, almost calm and pleasant, yet the words sent a chill down Master Loo’s spine, leaving him speechless.
And by this time, Scarlett had already taken out from her backpack a small thumb-sized pen stained with vermillion and a jade token.
She made a mark with the red pen on the jade token and gently placed it on Andrea Silva’s forehead.
Standing by the bed, Gideon and Mrs. Silva seemed to notice, as if it were an illusion, a wisp of black vapor fleeting over the jade token, disappearing with a blink.
Then, Scarlett retrieved several sheets of Yellow Talisman Paper from her backpack, subtly noticing Donovan’s small movements nearby, her gaze briefly shifted, noting Master Loo’s face full of reluctance and resentment.
Recalling his excessive gestures earlier, while Scarlett didn’t think those movements were impressive, people seemed to find it more convincing.
Old Mrs. Silva had asked her to show real skills earlier, after all.
Scarlett thought for a moment; she might not dance, but she could certainly bluff.
With that thought, she suddenly stepped back, her exquisite face swiftly wiped of all emotion, her entire demeanor abruptly changing to intense and focused.
She raised her hands, palms facing each other, and as her palms drew apart, the five sheets of Yellow Talisman Paper clamped between them were abruptly pulled upright by some invisible force, standing perfectly aligned.
That simple trick widened the eyes of everyone in the room, including Master Loo.
Then she parted her lips slightly, her voice clear and pure like a spring, yet sharp and commanding,
“The Heavenly Dao is clear, the Earthly Dao is peaceful, blend the cosmos, hundred gods return to life, by my decree, break!”
As she uttered the final word, she pushed her palms outward, and the previously aligned talismans promptly flew directly toward Andrea Silva lying on the bed.
