29 -29 Am I that scary?_1
Setting up the tent was a piece of cake for Carson Flores, his deft movements finishing the job under a patch of shade.
The weather was quite hot, Carson was dripping with sweat and just about to wipe off when Samantha Tate came over, holding a pristine white towel in her hand.
“You’re all sweaty, let me wipe it off for you.”
Samantha stood right in front of Carson, almost touching him as she wiped the sweat, her actions intimate and her light fragrance distinctly detectable.
Carson chuckled, “You really do put on quite the act.”
Samantha’s eyes curved, and she smiled seductively, “Just enjoy it while you can.”
After wiping off the sweat, Samantha took a bottle of water and handed it to Carson, “Drink some water.”
Carson accepted with a smile, glancing over at Ethan, couldn’t help but be amused, “It’s working, he looks about ready to shoot fire from his eyes.”
Samantha snorted, “Serves him right!
I’ve told him I’m not interested, but he keeps clinging to me, using his family connections, like gum on a shoe.
So annoying.”
“What do we do next?”
Smiling, Samantha pointed towards a hilltop above the waterfall, “They’ll be busy with the barbecue for a while.
Let’s sit there for a bit.”
Laughing, Carson said, “You’re really not holding back, trying to add fuel to the fire, huh?”
Samantha pursed her lips and chuckled, “Get it over with in one go, to avoid future annoyances.”
Turning around, Samantha shouted toward Ethan, “We’re going for a walk, call us when the barbecue’s ready, okay?”
Ethan clenched his teeth covertly, managing a strained smile, “Where are you going?
Be careful of wild animals.”
Samantha casually took Carson’s arm, “No fear, Carson’s here.
He will protect me.”
Ethan’s face turned even uglier, yet he still forcefully contained his displeasure, “Go ahead, I’ll call you later.”
As the pair left, Ethan kicked a stool over in a fit of anger.
The group of young men and women around the area were not at all surprised by this scene; instead, there was a hint of sympathy in their eyes.
Ethan organized this camping trip with the sole purpose of inviting Samantha, hoping the great outdoors would enhance her fondness for him.
Then, with a bit of alcohol, playful jeers from everyone, and engaging in games that could escalate their relationship, Ethan thought he could advance his chances.
But no one expected Carson to crash the party.
Now, with the two openly displaying affection in front of everyone, it was like rubbing Ethan’s face in the dirt.
Walking along a deserted path, Carson snapped off a branch and used it to push aside the vegetation as they went.
Curious, Samantha asked, “What are you doing?”
Carson grinned, “Beating the grass to startle the snakes.
There’s a good chance of snakes in the underbrush in summer.
If we stumble upon one, it might turn and bite.
I’m just scaring them off first for safety.”
Samantha made an ‘oh’ sound, “You sure know a lot.”
Carson just smiled.
During his five years with Dark Blade, he’d done numerous missions that involved survival in the wild—a must-have skill.
This was nothing; not having to eat snake meat raw was practically genteel.
They moved past the waterfall, navigating their way up the hill.
As they approached the top, Carson’s stickwork startled a snake from the underbrush, a colorful creature at least two meters long.
“Ah!”
Despite the snake being at least two meters away from Samantha, she let out a scream of terror and instinctively leaped to the side.
Already on a slope, Samantha’s jump threw her off balance, and she began to fall downhill.
Quick on his feet, Carson grabbed her in time.
Scared out of her wits by the snake, Samantha instinctively clung tightly to Carson, her voice quivering, “There’s a snake!”
Samantha hung on to Carson like a koala, their bodies pressed close in a position that was both sensual and suggestive.
For a moment, Carson’s mind wandered.
After all, he was a healthy young man who hadn’t touched a woman in a while.
With such a beautiful woman throwing herself into his arms, their bodies pressed together, it would be odd not to react.
Internally confused, Carson’s hands remained proper, patting her shoulder lightly, reassuring, “Don’t be scared, it’s slithered away!”
Samantha lifted her frightened face, “Really gone?”
Carson assured with a smile, “Really gone.
You’re afraid of it, but it’s probably even more afraid of you.”
His comment brought a laugh out of Samantha, her fear evaporated in an instant, and she glared at Carson, “Am I that scary?”
Carson chuckled, “You should get down now.
The way you’re holding on, it’s rather…
tempting, you know?”
Regaining her composure, Samantha’s cheeks flushed as she was about to quickly move away, but then she noticed from this angle she could see the campsite perfectly, and many there seemed to be looking up their way.
Samantha’s actions slowed as she attempted to leave Carson’s embrace in a relatively natural manner.
Carson found it odd and looked back, quickly realizing what was happening.
This woman was still putting on a performance.
“That’s enough acting; you seem to be getting into it, huh?”
Samantha shot Carson a look, about to straighten up when she suddenly grabbed Carson’s arm again, looking slightly awkward, “My legs feel a bit weak…”
Carson’s eyes widened, “Still acting?
You’re not expecting me to carry you or something, are you?”
