67 -67: Oh, Someone is Pouting_1
“Raphael Schneider!”
Leonard Reid’s gaze was icy cold, the chilling intent of murder nearly palpable, “Yesterday you promised with certainty that the acupuncture would cure the illness, then later you mentioned some persistent internal heat that requires rest for a night.
Now, what do you have to say for yourself?”
Raphael Schneider’s complexion was pale, his eyes haggard.
He was no longer the confident man full of vigor from the night before.
The child was still crying incessantly, her voice completely hoarse.
Only when exhaustion from crying took over did she manage to sleep for a bit last night, but she soon awoke again in terror, resuming her cries, the cycle repeating throughout the night.
Raphael Schneider had tried every method he could think of, but all his efforts were in vain.
“Mr.
Reid, I am incompetent.
At this point, there’s nothing left for me to say.”
Leonard Reid snorted coldly, “Your mere words, my child has suffered so much because of you.
Now with one word of incompetence, you think it’s all over?”
Raphael Schneider turned even paler.
He was very aware of the kind of person Leonard Reid was—a ruthless figure who wouldn’t blink an eye at taking a life!
It’s over!
He hadn’t earned the ten million but had put himself at risk instead.
Raphael Schneider gritted his teeth, “Considering the child’s illness, Mr.
Reid must have visited countless hospitals before resorting to Dr.
Vincent Ward and me.
If the two of us can’t handle it, it would be difficult for anyone else you might find.
After much thought, it seems to me that if there is anyone who can cure the child, it might still have to be Carson Flores.”
Leonard Reid scoffed, “Didn’t you say he was a fraud?
Now, just to shirk your responsibility, you’re even bringing a fraud into the picture to take the fall?”
Raphael Schneider gave a wry smile, “I was full of confidence yesterday and did not think it through.
Today, after all methods have failed, I have reflected on it.
Dr.
Vincent Ward and I have had our disputes for many years and never got along, but his integrity is trustworthy.
He said that Carson Flores’ medical skills are unparalleled, and I believe that is most likely true.”
Leonard Reid sneered, “What, now you’re also saying my child is under a curse like he claimed, pushing the responsibility onto some intangible curse?”
Raphael Schneider shook his head, “I am incompetent, and I won’t shirk responsibility for this.
I took a photograph of the child’s blood vessels last night, and I took another one just now.
Comparing the two, I’ve realized that the color of the child’s blood vessels has indeed darkened a bit.
Although it’s quite subtle, upon careful examination, the difference is discernible.”
Leonard Reid’s eyes widened, “Let me see!”
Raphael Schneider pulled up the two photos, and Leonard Reid narrowed his eyes, studying them closely, his expression turning to one of surprise.
The color really had darkened!
Carson Flores had been right all along.
Could the child really be cursed?
Leonard Reid turned his head and commanded his secretary in a grave voice, “Kye, go and bring back Dr.
Ward and Dr.
Flores.”
…
“Got one!”
With a flick of his rod, Carson Flores pulled a palm-sized crucian carp out of the water.
Carson Flores landed the fish, removed the hook, and shook it at Parker Miller who was nearby, “This carp is not bad.
It’ll make a good soup.”
Parker Miller smiled joyfully, “This wild crucian carp soup really is something…
On a big weekend like this, instead of spending time with Mary, you’re here fishing with an old man like me.”
Carson Flores let out a chuckle, “Mary has been busy with the pharmaceutical factory acquisition recently, kept very busy.
I’m new in town and don’t have many friends to socialize with, so fishing and relaxing a little is pretty good.”
Parker Miller sighed, “Not many young people these days can sit still for this.”
Carson Flores was about to reply when his phone suddenly rang, it was a number he didn’t recognize.
“Who’s this?”
“Dr.
Flores, hello, this is Kye Stein, secretary to Mr.
Leonard Reid.
The child’s condition has changed as Dr.
Flores predicted; Mr.
Reid would like Dr.
Flores to help with another consultation.
Where are you right now?
I’ll come to pick you up.”
Carson Flores responded indifferently, “I’m fishing and I’m busy, so I’m not available.”
Kye Stein was taken aback, completely not expecting to be rejected so plainly.
This was an invitation from the Real Estate King Leonard Reid!
What doctor could refuse such an invitation?
Let’s not mention anything else, just this invitation could be boasted about by the doctor for half a lifetime.
If he really could cure Mr.
Reid’s grandson, not to mention the substantial reward, just the favor alone would be heavy.
With just a word from Mr.
Reid, great troubles would be no trouble at all.
Suddenly, Kye Stein snapped back to reality, Oh, is this a display of anger?
Was it because of last night’s oversight, resulting in hurt pride?
Kye Stein inwardly sneered confidently and spoke, “Mr.
Reid has said, whoever cures the child’s illness will receive ten million as a reward.”
Pride?
Heh, pride is worthless in the face of ten million!
Who could refuse the temptation of ten million?
Carson Flores laughed, “Mr.
Reid offers ten million just like that, truly showing his wealth, but I’m in the middle of fishing and I’m busy, so I’m not available.”
Carson Flores hung up the phone and then turned it off.
Parker Miller looked over, “If you’ve got something to do, then go handle your business.
You don’t need to keep an old man company.”
Carson Flores smiled and rebaited his hook before casting it back into the pond, “It’s fine, we’ll keep fishing and aim to catch a bigger one.”
On the other end of the phone, Kye Stein was stunned.
He had been rejected again?
And his call had been hung up?
Kye Stein thought for a moment and redialed Carson Flores’s number, this time he was ready to apologize first.
A man’s ego is important; give him a step down, and naturally, he will take it.
Who could truly refuse ten million, after all?
Kye Stein was even envious himself.
“Sorry, the number you dialed is powered off.”
Listening to the recorded message from the phone, Kye Stein’s expression suddenly changed.
This was trouble!
