The Gentle Maiden and Five Lustful Brothers-Chapter 81: Things aren’t adding up
Chapter 81: Things aren’t adding up
After the party things between Jeremy and Rosa would never be the same. School was definitely the testament to the lack of status in their relationship. Jeremy was unsure how to act around Rosa and what this meant for things with Violet. Rosa awkwardly avoided Jeremy at first. Embarrassed for giving in and begging for Jeremy’s touch.
Rosa felt a buzz go off in her pocket, pulling out her phone she sees a message from Violet.
Violet: Ursula’s absent from school today.
Rosa: Okay, is that odd?
Violet: Yes, she’s never been absent. I wanted to ask her about why she left early from the party and why her fiancé was at my party last night.
Rosa: I guess that’s weird. You text her?
Violet: Yes, no reply. Do you think she could have gotten in trouble for coming to my party?
Rosa: No, I don’t think so, the Beta came with a gift for your birthday when he collected her.
Violet: Ash says something isn’t right. The other’s agree something isn’t right and now I can’t help but be scare for Ursula.
Rosa also thought it was suspicious that the wolves, with such a fragile alliance, stepping on to the vampire turf unannounced and uninvited was a risky more. Why make such a risky move? There had to be more to it than just delivering a present, for the sake of appearances. Shifters weren’t one for facades like this. So why? It was a rather puzzling question.
Rosa: Well maybe, since they can come here announced we can go there. Two can play at this game. Don’t worry Violet, we’ll get to the bottom of this.
Violet: Thanks for the reassurance, I’ll call her during lunch.
Violet felt an unbelievable sense of gratitude for Rosa right now, she always had a way of reassuring her just the right way.
"It’s okay Violet, she’s with her pack." Oliver confirmed what Rosa had said, rubbing her back softly, soothing Violet’s tensed muscles.
"I certainly hope so." Violet whispered.
Worry lines plagued Violet’s face, catching the professor’s attention.
"Violet is everything okay?" Luhta Elen asked.
Everyone in class turned to look at Violet.
Violet felt a ping in her chest from embarrassment. Feeling guilty she quickly answered her professor.
"I’m just worried for Ursula; she’s never missed a class." Violet answered truthfully.
"She’s a wolf, Violet, she’s fine. Her pack has some important guests visiting, she’ll be out for a few days. Does that help put your mind at ease?" Luhta Elen explained.
A wave of relief washed over Violet, easing her worry. That explains why she left the party with Beta Atlas and probably even why she looked so uneasy, she was probably riddled with anxiety.
Through her class research, Violet had learned a bit about the hierarchy and traditions of shifters. Once every five years the Alpha King and the royal family will travel to the different packs, a show of unity and strength and a reminder to the other packs they are still accountable to their king. Because Ursula was engaged to her packs Beta, she would be expected to attend all of the events they’d host.
Still Violet would call at lunch and check in with Ursula.
"Now that, that’s settled, let’s continue, where was I?" Luhta Elen paused trying to gather her thoughts, "Ah, yes, the Fae, a race of Demon that was practically made extinct because of the greed of many humans, and because their wings and dust where used in many ancient witch spells. Some of the most powerful of smells or potions required parts of a Fae Demon."
A student raised their hand, "How come we never see them anymore?"
"Because they’ve retreated into the forests and isolated themselves using their own magic to keep away anyone without Fae ancestry. It protects them and us from other wise chaotic and dangerous magic." Luhta Elen explained.
"So it benefits us they just took themselves out of society? That seems like a cop out to me" another student huffed.
"You’re a witch of course you’d think like that," a shifter at the table across from Violet and her groups said.
The class broke out in an uproar at that comment, other witches taken insult by the comment.
"Easy for you to say dog." One student said.
"You watch it calling me ’dog’ human rodent." A shifter snarled back.
"a dog calling someone else a rodent, that’s hilarious." A vampire said.
"Coming from a leech, that’s a compliment." One wolf said.
"Watch who you call a leech, mutt." That vampire fired back flashing her fangs.
In an instant the shifter jumped from his chair and immediately started his shift into a large grey wolf.
Howls and shouts erupted from the classroom.
Luhta Elen sat back and watched as the drama unfolded, pulling a thermos from a drawer in her desk.
Violet observed the class erupt into chaos as the wolf changed form midair and charged the vampire, snarling like a rabid animal, he leaped over the table, landing on the vampire. Teeth bared as saliva strands stretched inside his mouth, the wolf growled aggressively, intimidating the vampire. A flicker of fear was seen in the vampire’s eyes but only for a moment before a scowl replaced it and the vampire hissed dropping her jaw fangs extended once more. She shoved the snapping wolf off her. sending it hurdling across the room knocking chairs over and shatter a table. The wolf whined but then rolled back on to her legs and lunged at the vampire again, only to get socked directly in his snout. The wolf yelped and backed away. He shook its head violently, trying to shake off the pain. This angered the wolf further, now it wasn’t playing enraged the he launched himself on top of the vampire tackling her to the ground and bit into her arm. The smell of iron flooded the air. Sending everyone on alert, fangs now flashed as growls were given by the shifters. With blood being drawn, things had gotten too serious too quick and Luhta Elen was out of her seat in an instant.
"ENOUGH!" A deep ancient voice rumbled. The voice sounded violent as it shook the room. Luhta Elen flashed a vibrant gold light, blinding the room, a hurricane force wind burst from her, separating the two fighting students, sending them flying in opposite directions. Crashing into the cement wall, with a force so strong it cracked the wall.
Both students whined.
"You took it too far drawing blood. Blood is a precious and valuable resource. Don’t shed it lightly." Luhta Elen said to them in her normal voice. Her light retracted inward, as a blanket of silence settled over the room.
"Apologize to one another and shake hands. It was a good fight." She complimented the students and applauded their efforts.
The student were utterly shocked by their professors handling of the classroom disturbance.
"Never a dull moment in this class, huh?" Oliver said to the table.
"Nope." Ayra had watched wide eyed as the two faced off, she didn’t get to see fights between the different races very often, she missed them often because she spent most of her free time in the cooking classroom. She was a potions witch, so cooking and baking were more than a hobby to her.
Violet had scooted closer to Oliver feeling frightened by the fight, she hated seeing people get hurt. So, when she saw the blood, she immediately closed her eyes and turned away, pushing her face into Oliver’s shoulder.
The vampire got up and dusted herself off and the wolf shifted back into his human form, now naked in front of the class, they walk up to each other.
It was incredible how comfortable with nudity shifters were, how unbothered the class was. Like it was totally normal for anyone to be stark naked. Showing all their, bits, to everyone in class.
The vampire rolls her eyes, and with an exaggerated scoff, she extends a hand to the shifter, "Sorry I called you a mutt."
"Thanks! I guess I’m sorry I called you a blood sucker." The wolf says grabbing her hand. "But I’m not sorry about the fight, that was fun."
The vampire raised an eyebrow suspiciously at him. "Yeah, kinda was, until you almost gave me rabies." She threw shade, but with a joking undertone.
The shifter caught on, and fired back with his own, "Hey now, I am a good boy with a clean bill of health."
The vampire laughed lightly, the tension that was once thick enough to cut with a knife, now becoming thinner and the atmosphere lightened some.
"Well done, and class that’s how you move on after a disagreement. That was easy, wasn’t it?" Luhta Elen asked casually as if there weren’t thousands of years of animosity between the species.
"Now class, for the surprise today, we will be going outside and picking fights with opposing species class. You will throw insults, fight, and then make up, because if we’re ever going to break through this prejudice, we have to learn how to ’kiss and make up’ or you will all be doomed to repeat the same mistakes your parents did."
The class was filled instantly with hushed murmurs.
"Is this even allowed?" Roland asked. Roland was quiet and probably the least active member of Violet’s and Oliver’s group.
"Yes, why?" Luhta Elen asked.
"Because it seems to me like you’re enticing violence, for your own amusement." Roland accused her.
"Excuse me, Mr. Roland, I think you misunderstand, but then it’s easy for a mortal whose only reason for being in this school is his ability to use magic, of course you would miss the point, it’s not as though you have a 50-century old blood feud with an entire race." Luhta Elen had a condescending tone as she checked Roland’s analysis of her and the task.
Roland went silent, he didn’t anticipate her putting him in check.
"Precisely, Mr. Roland." Luhta Elen said "Now class as we were, lets head to the track and field area where we will begin the demonstration.
