Chapter 204: Art (1)

"Why are you here? I don’t recall us being so close for you to just show up at my home."

William looked around Grant’s house at the boring art there. Grant needed his help to pick out something to stand out in his home so it wouldn’t look so boring. William had plenty of art he could allow Grant to use. Some were paintings while others were women.

"How rude of you. I thought we were getting close. I want the same thing as you. For you and your family to be the ones ruling the court and palace. I am a man you should want on your side," William said, moving around the room to inspect Grant’s old armour.

"I can admit that you are better than the fools in the court but they know not to show up to my home unannounced. You should have something valuable to offer to me or leave. Irritating me won’t get you on my good side. Now, why are you here?" Grant asked, taking a seat.

Grant didn’t enjoy the company as he was waiting for a message from Julia. He had yet to hear any news about whether Hazel was pregnant or not.

"I came to once again convince you to include me in your plans. I want to be close to the family of the future king starting now. What can I do to please you? Women?" William offered as he had plenty to give away.

Using loans, he was able to buy daughters from families in desperate need of money.

"I have a fine eye for women and I am willing to let you have a turn with some of my greatest treasures. They are plenty for your son and grandsons. Oh wait, Kenneth is a loyal bastard," William joked. It was the one flaw he considered Kenneth to have.

"I don’t need your women," Grant replied.

"You are missing out. I need to get rid of a few of them as I am making plans to bring in more. Maybe I should get married," William considered.

Grant laughed as marriage wasn’t suited for a man like William. "You never got married in the past because you didn’t have good money nor were handsome enough for a woman to be interested in you. Stick to buying girls from their fathers, William. Marriage doesn’t suit you."

"Says the man with other women by his side. I know you, Grant. We might not have been close but I know a lot of your secrets. Don’t worry," William said, holding up his hands to show he wasn’t going to attack. "I can keep secrets."

"I’ve come into a lot of wealth and many of the men in town owe me something. You also cannot ignore my connections in the court. Like I said, you will want me around," said William.

Grant didn’t need William that badly as he had more than enough men on his side but seeing how desperate William was to be involved, Grant could make some use out of William. Since William knew of his plans to have his family rule the kingdom, Grant had to make William think he was an ally to keep his mouth shut.

"Very well. I will trust that you are loyal to me and should you do well when the time comes I shall reward you handsomely. For start, turn a blind eye to all the things you have done. All the women you have," Grant proposed.

William smiled as though he was staring at gold. Now this conversation was going somewhere. "I will do what I can to get your granddaughter seated on the throne. I must confess that the king and I aren’t exactly close. I have a few problems with his friend."

"I need a favour from you, Grant. One that you will enjoy in the future. When your granddaughter sits on the throne, kill Edgar Collins and give the land along with the title to me," William proposed.

Grant shook his head since that was not going to happen. "I want him alive and should anything ever happen to him, why would the land go to you? I am a family man, William. What he owns would go to his family. Leave the boy alone. Unless he does something to get in my way, I want him alive."

William gritted his teeth as yet another person was complimenting the bastard. If Grant didn’t get rid of the duke now, Grant would find himself stabbed in the back by Edgar.

"You are still so easily intimidated-"

"Intimidated?" William replied, holding his belly as he laughed. "I’ve grown over the years to learn how to have people in the palm of my hands to crush them. I am not afraid of anyone. I simply want him dead because he meddles."

"Many have come to fear me. Even bow down to me when they come for money. I have nobles offering their daughters to me. I am waiting for one right now. One that resembles her beautiful mother," William said, tilting his head back as he imagined her in his arms.

She would be a good replacement for the woman he didn’t have in the past and she was the perfect art.

"Do not start touching yourself in my home. I don’t care what your issue is with him, do not touch him or the king. It is the queen you need to put your attention on. She cannot have a child before Linda is in the palace. Prove yourself loyal by figuring out how to stop that."

William already had the answer to Grant’s problem. "I would bet you turned to a concoction to rid her of any child she has, but the best one comes from a place right in front of you. The red light district. With all the men that frequent there, there are no children produced unless the women don’t drink what they are meant to. I can get a few bottles for you to slip into the queen’s drinks."

"They’ll work better than whatever you are using now. How do you think I have managed to stay without a child for so long? Well, other than killing the mother?" William joked. "The only problem would be getting to the queen’s food."

"I shall take care of that. Bring what you speak of as soon as possible. We must be quick," Grant said, tapping his fingers on the arm of the chair. "Do you have something to make someone aroused and the other a little out of their mind as if drunk?"

"Of course."
